After 40 years in construction, our founder was frustrated with unreliable stud-finding methods. While experimenting with neodymium magnets, he discovered they easily locate drywall fasteners, revealing stud positions. This insight led him to create and patent The StudBuddy - a simple magnetic device that finds studs and stays on the wall as a visual marker. Unlike electronic stud finders that can give false readings due to wiring or pipes, The StudBuddy uses strong magnets to detect actual drywall screws/nails, guaranteeing stud location. Never. The StudBuddy uses powerful magnets, so it works without batteries or electronics - no maintenance required. Yes! The StudBuddy's powerful neodymium magnets can detect fasteners through multiple layers of paint, wallpaper, and even heavily textured surfaces. So much better than an electronic stud finder. Simple concept - strong magnet sticks to the drywall screws...very well in fact. It only took me about 5 seconds to find a stud vs others I tried that were hit and miss. Purchased this one to help our son find a stud to mount his TV to the wall. Told him to keep it and got another for myself. I had one of the old school battery operated ones that you slide across the wall and the little led lit up when it detected a stud. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. This is definitely a more accurate way to do it. I know - it doesn't work on some wall surfaces, but most homes built around us in the last 30 years have drywall...and we aren't planning on moving into a house without drywall anytime soon, so worth the money. ... show more

If you are tired of electronic stud finders beeping wildly and giving you false readings, this simple magnetic tool is an absolute lifesaver. I stuck a banana to the wall in the photo for scale—and fortunately, you don't need batteries to figure out there's no metal behind it. You simply sweep this little plastic block in an S-pattern across the drywall until the rare earth magnets violently snap onto a drywall screw, identifying the exact center of the stud every single time. WHAT EXCELS: • It is completely foolproof, requires zero batteries, and works perfectly on drywall, plaster, and lath where electronic scanners completely fail. • It hangs freely on the wall once it finds a screw, keeping your hands free to grab a drill or a pencil. THE CATCH: • While this original version is fantastic, I highly suggest spending a few extra dollars to upgrade to the StudBuddy V2. The V2 includes a built-in bubble level, which saves you the massive headache of trying to juggle a separate level, a pencil, and the stud finder all at once while hanging shelves. Cheap reliable way to find studs used to mount a very heavy TV. Did double check and centering on stud was fine - though this depends on the contractor putting up the walls (usually should be fine). Very good product and helpful to have more than one at this price.

This little stud finder works fantastic to find drywall srews to show you the styd line. Needs no batteries that will die when you most need your tool. Worked great by just gently gliding on the wall and it just sticks on any metal screw or object behind the sheetrock.

Works just ok, this device relies on finding nails in studs and since they don’t put nails all up and down a stud, it limits this device’s effectiveness.
