So I was very skeptical to purchase this after seeing the reviews, however it was on sale and I love DeWalt products plus I like to develop opinions based on my own experiences so I bought it to give it a try, at first I when holding it outside the package I thought to myself this is so lightweight and cheap now I see what everyone was talking about. However when I tested it several times over and over it was spot on atleast 90-95% of the time! Both with studs and live wire! Not saying the folks who couldn’t get it to work don’t know what they’re doing but for me it really did work and I was very pleased with it, even tested it against a 3 in 1 more expensive finder I have and this was quicker to detect the objects and from much further away as compared to my “better” one. For the folks who can’t get it to be accurate I would not read the instructions but watch the video so you can see how to really use it, make sure your walls aren’t too thick, make sure they are actually drywall and not plaster or any other material, make sure you lay it flat on the wall and hold the middle button until the lights minus the power light go off, make sure your moving it in one direction on the wall not changing your height or position on the wall it should be slow smooth slides in one direction also not up and down and back and forth on the wall, just one clean slow uni-directional movement. Also you have to keep your hand in the same position once it’s on the wall you can’t be moving your fingers or hands at all, this will throw off the calibration, you also need to make sure your opposite hand and arm are at your side and away from the hand with the finder if you touch the wall with your other hand or even bring it near the hand your using to locate the stud it will throw off the calibration. If you do all of these steps and it’s still not working for you maybe it isn’t the best product and I lucked out. However I must say I am fully impressed by this stud finder.

Nothing fancy and works great on simple projects. Lasts a long time without needing to swap batteries. Tends to be pretty good at finding the studs and pretty easy to carry. Easy to understand how to use and beeps when finding the edge of the stud.

The DEWALT Stud Finder (DW0100) is a solid tool for locating wood and metal studs with ease. Its LED arrow indicators are clear and helpful for pinpointing the edges of studs, and the compact design makes it convenient to use in tight spaces. Powered by AAA batteries (included), it’s ready to go right out of the box, which is a thoughtful touch. In my experience, the stud finder worked well for most standard drywall applications. It quickly detected framing studs, and the LED arrows provided a clear visual guide for marking. The build quality feels sturdy and reflects the dependable reputation of DEWALT tools. However, the sensitivity of the device could be better explained or refined. There were moments when it gave inconsistent readings, particularly when scanning areas with uneven wall textures or multiple materials. For example, it occasionally detected false positives or struggled to maintain consistency across a single wall. After some trial and error, I found that holding it steady and double-checking the same area improved accuracy, but it would have been helpful if the manual included tips for optimizing use or explained how the sensitivity settings work. Delivery was on time, and the packaging was secure. Despite the learning curve with sensitivity, this is a dependable and efficient tool for home improvement projects. A clearer sensitivity adjustment or enhanced instructions would make it a 5-star product.

This works great. So much better than the one I had. For the price you cant really go wrong. It keeps when there are wires or studs in the walls and makes it so much easier to know where to drill or hang things up.

After years of frustration, I finally have the sweet release of being able to throw this POS in the trash! Coming from DeWalt you'd expect nothing but top tier, but with this product you'd have a better chance just knocking on your drywall and guessing. Not only does it not find studs, it finds studs that don't exist! So you get to put oh so many extra holes in your wall that make you have to go back to the patch and paint phase! Oh joy! And the cherry on top, when your going back and forth (again and again and again) trying to locate... really anything... it will chew up your new coat of paint, bringing you back again to the paint phase! Phenomenal performance! Do yourself a favor. Spend an extra $20 bucks and get on that actually works. And above ALL else, it goes without saying, go with Milwaukee.

This is a really accurate, lightweight tool from DeWALT. The hole in the middle makes it easy to mark the exact center of the stud, as indicated by the arrows on each side. Much easier to use than my larger, older stud finders.

It works but not what I expected from Dewalt. It is not near the quality of other Dewalt Tools I have. It still left me guessing for the stud edges. I was trying to read through a very thin wall paneling plus a thin 3/8" sheetrock. The wall has foam insulation if that makes any difference.
