So I was very skeptical to purchase this after seeing the reviews, however it was on sale and I love DeWalt products plus I like to develop opinions based on my own experiences so I bought it to give it a try, at first I when holding it outside the package I thought to myself this is so lightweight and cheap now I see what everyone was talking about. However when I tested it several times over and over it was spot on atleast 90-95% of the time! Both with studs and live wire! Not saying the folks who couldn’t get it to work don’t know what they’re doing but for me it really did work and I was very pleased with it, even tested it against a 3 in 1 more expensive finder I have and this was quicker to detect the objects and from much further away as compared to my “better” one. For the folks who can’t get it to be accurate I would not read the instructions but watch the video so you can see how to really use it, make sure your walls aren’t too thick, make sure they are actually drywall and not plaster or any other material, make sure you lay it flat on the wall and hold the middle button until the lights minus the power light go off, make sure your moving it in one direction on the wall not changing your height or position on the wall it should be slow smooth slides in one direction also not up and down and back and forth on the wall, just one clean slow uni-directional movement. Also you have to keep your hand in the same position once it’s on the wall you can’t be moving your fingers or hands at all, this will throw off the calibration, you also need to make sure your opposite hand and arm are at your side and away from the hand with the finder if you touch the wall with your other hand or even bring it near the hand your using to locate the stud it will throw off the calibration. If you do all of these steps and it’s still not working for you maybe it isn’t the best product and I lucked out. However I must say I am fully impressed by this stud finder.

Want to drill a hundred holes in your wall for no reason? Buy this item! Want to spend hours of family fun cussing, arguing AND making a mess? This is the item for you! Honestly, this thing is THE WORST! It's like its designed by landlords to cause you to definitely lose your deposit. I love dewalt tools, but this has me questioning my loyalties. This thing feels cheap in hand, and its performance is worse than bad, its downright counterproductive.

This was able to help my dad hang my pendant light up in the right spot in the wall after it fell from the other wall the first time. And the light and bracket has been doing well ever since.

I found it to be inconsistant in finding a stud. Sometimes it indicated there was a stud and other times it just rolled over the same area and did nothing. When it did indicate a stud it was accurate. Issue is more inconvient than anything. I found that I had to go over same area a few times to find stud. Sometimes it indicated a stud. Sometimes nothing in same area.. I do need something more consistant. Great for the price tho..
