    • A Book That is Hard to Put Down

This is the first book I have read by this author, Mary Oldham. Within the very first chapter I decided that this would be a hard book to put down. It goes back and forth between the current days and years in the past, but it is extremely easy to follow the story. In fact, these changes from past to present add detail. Leslie is in love with Jordan and has been for years. And he obviously adores her. Her dream wedding has been in the planning stages for a while. Leslie is in real estate and Jordan is a teacher. Two weeks before their wedding, he takes a field trip with some of his students that ends tragically. The rest of the story follows Leslie's life and struggles after Jordan. She buys a wedding dress with each engagement, and each one ends with no wedding. Her aunt owns a Bridal Boutique that holds an annual charity auction of wedding gowns and her cousin (and best friend) urges her to donate the unused gowns. Leslie learns a lot about herself as she deals with less than honorable men on her way to her happily ever after. I usually read the reviews before getting a book to avoid having to read about explicit scenes or language. The language was what made me choose to stop reading this book. I loved the premise of the book and wish I could have learned about all of her failed engagements.

This was a very enjoyable read, easy and comfortable like a warm cup of herbal tea with a shot of brandy! Mary Oldham is so good at character development that you'll be pulled in quickly. This romantic story is about Leslie Wescott's search for the great love of her life. You'll be transported into her world with ease and feel like you are personally experiencing her pain and pleasure, her losses and her good fortunes. She meets many men with ease but where is that one true love? The relationships are described so well and so are all the other characters in the book. I could not put this down. Best I’ve read in many years. From the very beginning you are immersed in the character’s lives. It’s got it all…an amazing romance, wonderful characters, a completely unique way of weaving past, present and future into one integrated story line. You’ll be wondering until the very end who her true love is. The illustrations of the astonishing range of wedding dresses are beyond stunning and I love how Mary weaves them so perfectly into the storyline. My dream would be to see this come to life as a Hallmark movie. It literally screams “bring this book to life”. Read it on a plane, on your lunch hour, while your taking a soak or curled up all cozy in a good storm…just READ it! You won’t be sorry, these characters stay with you well after the end.
