  • So Many Emotions
Format: Kindle
I don’t even know where to start with this one. I guess I’ll say, this book surprised me overall, as I didn’t read the synopsis and just dove right in. Though I sometimes struggled to continue reading due to utter frustration and annoyance, I’m glad I finally pushed through and allowed the characters and plot to develop. Devante PISSED ME OFF so bad. I was so annoyed and mad with him and his antics. He was a major part of me having difficulty getting through initially. Reading what he was doing to those young, eager, bright, and beautiful young ladies was just so maddening. I have never been this pissed off and angry with a book character before. I’m glad he finally went away but, I wish he’d been held accountable in the end. Vanessa- Though I was suspicions of her and Devonte’s true relationship and intent throughout the book, I was totally taken aback when their actual relationship was revealed and everything they’d being doing for so many years. At Vanessa’s big age, she should’ve never been involved and dealing with these young ladies. But the actual connection and her importance in the story was revealed and ended up making sense. The author constantly alluded to there being something in the FMC’s past and her identity that was an integral part of the story. Loren and Kammy. Poor girls. My heart broke for them as their light, life, and purpose was stolen from them due to their gullibility and naivety. It’s all too familiar of things that can occur to young students first away at college. I wish Kammy had been found. I also wished that Loren had been able to truly and fully come back from this. Nick was such a delight and I had a feeling he’d be a significant part of bringing the storyline to life when he was first introduced. I was a little annoyed that the token white boy was appearing as the “savior” for the destitute Black girl. I’m glad he was there and he seemed like he was genuine and authentic in his intentions of attending the HBCU and his clear love for Jordyn. His upbringing was a great contribution to his overall character. He was raised by a Black Aunty and it showed. Jordyn. She is a very complex young lady. At times, her decision making was very questionable and I continued to write it off as her being a young lady looking for community and belonging. The author continuously dropped hints that her past was a factor in everything happening. Her constant reflections about Kevin and alluding to no one knowing the real her, added to the mystery surrounding her character and actions. I would’ve never guessed the way it all came out and her true motives. This girl is a force to be reckoned with and clearly didn’t play about her brother. I love her for real! In all, I truly enjoyed this book. I’m glad I pushed through. This is my second read of this author’s work and I see she likes to take you on a deeply emotional ride, while dropping subtle hints of major plot lines throughout the book. She then completely blindsides you with a suspenseful twist that has you questioning and trying to decide if the FMC is a villain or not. Jordyn was complex and, even after her intentions and actions were revealed, I couldn’t help but to still love her character. Overall, this was a solid read and I’ve become a true fan of this author’s work. I now know that I need to be emotionally prepared for new novels as they truly take you through it. Great job! ... show more

  • Why Oh Why
Format: Audiobook
I really enjoyed this read from start to finish. The storyline had me hanging on every word just waiting to see what would happen next. The characters were well developed to the point that I was concerned and thinking why oh why isn’t there some kind of intervention. And just when I thought that I couldn’t take any more, a surprise ending made my mouth drop! Fantastic job, Tiffany D. Jackson! I will definitely be looking for more work from this Author… EyeCU Approved & Highly Recommended ... show more

  • Riveting 🤩
Format: Kindle
Tiffany D. Jackson proves once again why her storytelling stands out. The Scammer is tightly written, culturally rich, and impossible to ignore. The inclusion of Black culture, especially through the HBCU presence, feels authentic and intentional, adding depth to an already compelling narrative. Jackson has a way of building tension that keeps your nerves on edge. The kind of stress that makes you pause, stare at the page, and keep reading anyway. Every layer of the plot is carefully constructed, growing more intense with each chapter and making it genuinely hard to put down. What truly seals the experience is the payoff. The story is bold, addictive, and sharply paced, but the plot twist is on another level. It is shocking without feeling forced and memorable in a way that lingers long after the final page. The Scammer is smart, engaging, and wildly entertaining. It is a standout read that leaves you wanting more, and yes, hoping a part two is already in the works. Perfect for readers who love thrillers with cultural depth and jaw dropping turns. ... show more

  • Not sure how I feel
Format: Kindle
I'm torn between really liking this book. The writing was good because I was drawn into the story and didn't want to put it down but the plot shifting to it being a planned setup is weird. The switching of the pills and the whole line about the ex boyfriend knowing the plan just seems too far fetched. What truth does she have to reveal to Nick, that she knew who Vanessa was? I have so many questions and the book left me so confused that I can't say I enjoyed it. I definitely didn't enjoy the ending. Maybe it was written for a part two because part one didn't make any sense. ... show more

  • Great addition to HS classroom library
Format: Hardcover
Overall, a well written and intense book. I read most of it in one sitting. The characters are vivid and realistically created. As a teacher, I think it's a great addition to my classroom library. For me, it felt like it fell apart at the end, like the author felt it needed something extra and went with something that felt very forced and contrived. ... show more

  • Another BANGER!
Format: Hardcover
Another one Tiffany?! My goodness. I experienced every emotion reading this and nearly lost my mind right up until the end.! predicted the ending but there was a shocking revelation that messed my head up as Ms.Jackson loves to do. I think stories like these are imperative for our college aged young adults. I related with so many things Jordyn went through from attending a predominantly white high school, choosing to attend an HBCU over PWI to feel whole again, to being naive and manipulated without parental guidance in those very formative years. Shoutout FAMU. Overall an amazing read, but the ending left me so sad and feeling like I didn't get the closure I really need. But I guess that's art reflecting life. ... show more

  • slow start but overall a good read
Format: Kindle
It started out slow and by like 35% I was close to putting it in my DNF pile but I realized that minus the theme of cults, Jordyn and her roommates were like almost all freshmen who traveled away from home for college to start the next chapter - young, impressionable, and trying to find their way. Jordyn’s inner battle and turmoil throughout the book make complete sense once you make it to the end - by 50% I couldn’t put the book down until I finished it. ... show more
