  • Excellent Manual!
This is an in depth look into the proper policies and procedures for Animal Assisted Activities. Pet Partners is the Gold Standard in this field which includes many different species in their ranks. Therapy horses, llamas, birds, rabbits, cats, to mention a few. Using the electronic version of this book, purchased on Amazon.com, was a great choice. I was able to highlight and notate passages with the ability to easily find them later. Sure beats dog earring pages and guessing where to find the passage later. With growing popularity in the use of animals in hospitals, schools, libraries, court houses, prisons, psychiatric programs and business, this is a great way to learn how to apply, manage and conduct an animal program. I recommend this book to professionals in the medical, educational, governmental as well as anyone else who wish to learn more and set up a Animal Assisted Intervention or Therapy program. This book is a testament to why Pet Partners is the leader in the Animal Interaction/Therapy field. ... show more

  • This Handlers Guide is a perfect illustration of why - the content that is covered ...
Pet Partners is the gold standard in therapy animal organizations. This Handlers Guide is a perfect illustration of why - the content that is covered is extensive. It's not just about the animal - with Pet Partners, you work as a team, and this manual helps with all aspects. It covers what is required and expected of the animal (training, temperament, hygiene) and well as what is expected of the human (social interactions, infection control, privacy concerns, advocating for your animal, plus a host of other things). The manual is well-formatted, so information on any particular subject is easy to find. Added to that, the ability to access electronically makes this all the more useful, not only to those people considering becoming involved in animal assisted therapy, but those who are currently involved but might need a refresher. ... show more

  • Practical, step-by-step guide, very well researched and incredibly useful.
I loved this book! It was a surprising discovery for me, as both an animal-lover and a frequent medical patient, to find such a trove of wise words and useful advice, most of which was new to me. Anyone can use this book - you don't have to be an expert in the medical or animal industry, as everything is laid out very clearly and with explanation, so that pet therapy practitioners, advocates and newbies can understand what they're doing (and facing) and how to properly plan. I'm actually recommending this book to several of my regular in-patient medical clinics, as I know they get therapy dog requests, and just don't know where to start when people offer their help. But now they will! ... show more

  • The Gold Standard!
This is a wonderful guide from the national leader in promoting positive human-animal interventions. Pet Partners is committed to the highest standards for therapy animal visitation. This book is perfect for folks who are interested in volunteering with their animals to provide affection and comfort. Important concepts such as ethics and conduct, as well as signature principles such as PETS and YAYABA are discussed, as well as practical advice on topics such as grooming, infection control and client confidentiality. There is a multi-species approach with this program- for individuals who may have an animal other than a dog...such as cats, llamas or rabbits! There is no better way to prepare for the incredible journey of becoming a therapy animal team than this guide! Animals really do enhance our health and well-being! ... show more

  • Want to have a therapy dog? You need this book!
When they say "who wrote the book of therapy dog standards", it would seem the answer is Pet Partners. This handbook for therapy dog (and other animals like cats too- in fact, 9 species!) volunteers is well laid-out and incredibly informative. It doesn't just give information, but gives thorough explanations as to the reasons for policies, and why adhering to high standards of professionalism and procedure is so important particularly in health-care settings, but also for "safe and effective" therapy animal visits everywhere. The focus on the animal's welfare is so important too- YAYABA (You Are Your Animal's Best Advocate) should be on the wall of every veterinarian, pet-supply store, and adoption facility on the planet! ... show more

  • Comprehensive, More Than Advertised, Fantastic Item, Problem-Free Transaction!
I have been looking for comprehensive books on how to train dogs as it appears there are more requests with the folks that train the animals for a living than there are dogs. I was really happy to have come across a fantastic book that helped teach me & it will be my "go to" manual in the coming months as I attempt to train my pup so that she can pass the requirements ultimately required for her to actually be certified as a therapy dog. Thanks for such a great book! ... show more

  • PET PARTNER MEMBER SINCE 2002 REVIEW
Very well written and easy to understand while giving good support and information on what therapy work with animals is all about and how the human animal bond can form a true working team using the training and knowledge provided in this handlers guide. A valuable resource for anyone wanting to seriously learn what Pet Partners therapy program is all about and how to become a successful registered PP team. This Guide has been available in printed form through PP but the new e version is both much more portable and easier to access. ... show more

  • Required reading for anyone involved with therapy animals
Outstanding book! Clear and organized. Should be required reading for anyone considering becoming a therapy animal team. Ensures that it's done in a safe and effective way for the people being visited, but also to ensure the therapy animal's welfare. I'd encourage anyone who is thinking about having therapy animals come into their facility (hospital, eldercare, libraries, schools, etc) read this as well. It will help them develop a safer and more effective program for everyone involved. Pet Partners is the gold standard on therapy animal programs! ... show more
