  • Perfect way to finish Salem and Thayer’s story
🌼 Review - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 🌼 You all know how much I LOVED the first part of this duo, so I obviously had to get my hands on this one. This was the perfect ending to Salem and Thayer’s story and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to wrap it up. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but if you’ve read the first book, you know it ends with some pretty traumatic events. This book picks up 6 years after the first one, so it helps to fill in some blanks of what has happened since we last saw Salem and Thayer and how they tried to work through what happened. I’ll be honest, I was extremely nervous when I first started this book but quickly came to love Caleb. I really hope we get to see a separate story for him because I am dying to know where he ends up. I also noticed a few others pointed out that the epilogue was really long, but I felt this was necessary to really wrap up the story and leave you with no unanswered questions. I listened to this on audible and it was narrating by Kasi Hollowell and Gregory Salinas. In the first book, it was narrated by Kasi Hollowell and I felt like she did an amazing job, but I really enjoyed that this had a male and female narrator for Salem and Thayer’s chapters. I cannot recommend this duo enough. I love it so much, I own multiple copies of the book and recently bought the combined duo. Plus, the covers are STUNNING (shoutout to Emily Wittig). It’s also safe to say that I will read anything Micalea Smeltzer writes. ⚠️TW: cancer, death, divorce, grief, car accident ... show more

  • emotional
I was not prepared for about the first 30 % of this book. This author has really come into her own. Every book I read of hers keeps getting better and better. This duet will stick with you for a while. It’s one of those all consuming stories that you will be happy you read.

  • Great, realistic wrap up. So quotable!
I was really happy with how realistic this particular book was. The last book was dramatized and EXCELLENT, don’t get me wrong, but this just had a slowness to it that gave you a more “day-to-day” vision. It’s even emphasized several times in the book. I know a lot of people will find this boring but this was real and sometimes we need a little dose of reality while we try and escape it to give us another perspective. They went through so much in the last book, this was just them coming back to normalcy and Salem finding herself. I loved it. While I really enjoyed this duet, this particular book was written like a deadline. In haste. There was a lot of punctuation missing or misplaced, misspelled words. There were a couple times that a sentence was brought out of left field and I just had to move on from it because it made no sense and had no relevance to the current situation… this has always been a pet peeve for me. While, I appreciated that the books released so close to each other, I later date would have given more time for editing. I love that Salem and Thayer didn’t have extra conflict in this book and were able to move forward without anymore road bumps. There was no anger or animosity between them once they talked things out after seeing each other. Thayer’s reaction was amazing (giving himself a moment to feel that anger toward her on his own before moving on in the next moment and making sure she did the same). I appreciate that more than the unnecessary angst that most authors provide. They’re adults and acted as such. Micalea is really a great writer of putting things in perspective and making you take a step back and look at things from a new angle. I’ve only read a couple of her books and both had SO much meaning, SO much emotion and even though they both gave a huge dose of reality (spent a lot of time in the characters everyday life) there was meaning behind those details. Everything she writes has a point to it. It still allowed you to escape for a few hours and made you crave more. It’s just not overdramatized. ... show more

  • I went through many emotions as I read this
This was the best duet I could have imagined. Going back n forth between what the two characters were feeling and thinking personally was the BEST! I definitely did not want this to end.

  • Beautiful story
After I read the first I couldn't wait to read the next. This was a beautiful love story I wanted from the first, if they didn't though that curve ball at the end of the 1st. I got the falling in love story all over and it was amazing. Makes me dream of this kind of love for myself one day

I did not want this book to end. I am so invested in these characters and this story that I’m going to be sad tomorrow when it doesn’t continue.
