UPDATE: 2hrs later and it's working GREAT!!! I have NO complaints! I added a video for everyone to see! Makes me sad for the ones who get cloudy ones! I do have a suggestion, at check out you have the option to hide the packaging and I'm betting a lot of people do that, but i decided not to thinking if the delivery people can see what it is they may be way more gentle so I highly recommend not hiding the package! Don't know if that'll help, but it's worth a shot! I LOVE my lava lamp SO much! Never thought I'd be happy about my last one being broke lol! I just hope this one holds up as well as my last one cause I ran that one for over 24hrs at a time sometimes and it was fine never had an issue with it so im hoping this one is the same as I like to keep mine on all night it helps me sleep! Get you one! They are amazing! And this one does NOT run hot at all, slightly warm but I can leave my hand on it and it doesn't burn me so that's a huge plus as well! If I could give it more stars I would!! One more thing, the green wax looks much darker in the product photo, as does the blue liquid. But as you can see it's a very bright blue and neon green not the darker colors depicted! I LOVE bright colors so I'm obsessed, but just wanted to let people know in case that's something that would bother you! :) It's seriously great, highly recommend! Worth every penny! So, this was just delivered on my door step. The last one I had was a JAMBO 16" but my cat knocked it over and broke it so this time I decided to get an old school looking one that looked like the ones I had in the 90's as a kid. I keep seeing that the newer ones are better, but I decided to take a chance cause nothing beats the retro looking ones! Reviews have had me super nervous it would show up and be cloudy or wouldn't flow right or the bulb wouldn't work, but everything looks really really good so far! The liquid is super super clear! I plugged it in and the bulb works, now to just let it sit and wait to see if it runs right. I really really am hoping it does because this is my ultimate dream lava lamp! I love the hot pink(I've seen some reviews say the base/cap glow in the dark and some say you need a UV light, not really worried about that part though although if it does glow in the dark that would be super cute!!)and the blue with green wax(little worried because my wax looks bright yellow lol, but hey, as long as it flows properly I'm not worried about that either!!)but I got this specific one because of the blue liquid and green wax cause I knew those colors would give off such a relaxing vibe which is why I love these things so much, I watch them to fall asleep and they work like a charm! They're so relaxing! I haven't slept great since my cat broke my other one, so fingers crossed this works for me!! It looks really promising! I got a lava lamp for a friend of mine that loved mine.. Hers arrived and when turned on It was so cloudy you couldn't enjoy its "burrbols". So went to the return department ordered another one asked for a replacement not a refund. The next day the lamp was there. It was tipped on it's side and was nervous it might be in the same shape and being cloudy again Much to our delight the lamp was perfect and so pretty. So I have to give it a 5 rating,due to how Amazon quickly handled the service and the replacement. I did not give a bad rating because we all know packages are not always handled gently. and tossed around, sort of like your luggage when your at the airport and you recognize your luggage and feel a relief cause the you know it made it,in one piece only to watch the handlers play catch with your luggage! So 5 star rating because the service agents handled it quickly and I had my return labels and she had her new lava light and its crisp and not a touch of blurry. thank you ... show more

Stopped Working after 3 Months

Update: The company replied that it is likely a "light bulb out" and I should "replace with the proper size". I am not going to change my rating because only lasting 3 months, especially if it is the light bulb, is not really acceptable for the cost of this product. The lamp was not on every day and was on for less than 6 hours each time. The light bulb should last longer; now we have to spend money to "hope" that it is the light bulb. Originally, we would rate this a 4 star because it takes a very long time to heat up and the lava moves very slowly in large clumps. This is definitely a personal preference. However, after three months the unit has completely stopped turning on. We have tried several outlets and confirm a strong power source. I am really disappointed because I assumed this was going to be a solid product coming from the Original Lava Lamp company. Three months is not long enough for the cost of this item, which was also a Christmas gift. I reached out to the company through the website provided on the Amazon order page to see if there are any trouble shooting tips. Will update if I hear from them. Overall, I would not recommend this product as it has stopped working after only three months. ... show more

This video is 8x speed using out of the box lamp and the 25w bulb that came with it just a few days of having it. At first I ran it 48 hours, was too long, the wax started showing classic signs of overheating, so I turn it off cooled it off for over an hour turned back on, didn’t work right, my fault, I turned it off for a few hours, back on was working better, but the key is I turned it off for 7 hours last night and back on, this video is from a few hours after that, and its been basically doing the same thing all day. I did order a spotlight style shape 25W bulb that’s supposed to run a touch hotter maybe help it flow better. So far it’s been awesome. Just gotta stay with it. All lava lamps require the perfect balance of temperature of lamp and room. This lamp works perfect out of the box. They know what they’re doing. That said, I’ll probably try the new bulb and see what happens. Will update. Great ambiance. Perfect appearance. Really enjoyable. Great value for the money. UPDATE: 25w spotlight shape/style bulb did not work, ran cooler. Ordered 30w bulb 💡 exact same style as the bulb that comes with this one only dif is the watt, both 120v. I’m still testing the 30w bulb, but so far so good, sometimes I get more, faster, and smaller blobs with 30w. It really depends on the temp of the room, rn I’m running my bedroom cooler so the 30w helps, if u run your room warmer, the 25w should be optimal. I don’t see myself needing anything over a 30w. Might take a video of the lamp with the 30w, but not rn. ... show more

They still exist!
Lava Lamp! I was so excited to see these still existed when I started searching for them online to get ideas for my kids around Christmas time. I don't hear much about them anymore. I am pleased with this purchase it has just been a simple reminder why I loved them so much growing up. First off, the colors are so cool together, and I just go in my daughters room sometimes to watch it as it is mesmerizing to me. As for my kids 7 and 13, I purchased 2, and they both are thoroughly enjoying theirs as well also! My daughters did slide off her book case somehow though and the little lightbulb inside cracked, but that was easy to remove and the replacement bulbs are not too expensive, so it was back up and running in no time. This lava lamp is so cloudy that I could barely see the wax moving. Also, I am positive it’s the fluid because if I remove the lid, I can see through the colored globe perfectly. It’s only cloudy at and below the fluid level. I considered sending it back, but I imagine the replacement would be cloudy too. I will be filtering the fluid, which is an additional cost. It’s ridiculous to have to spend more to get what should be perfect, but it is what it is. Everything is too expensive and also horrible quality these days. ... show more

Let me start off by saying this: This is a great brand. The only brand of Lava Lamps I care to spend money on, in fact. Even after this review of my experience this time around, the company DOES make good products and I'm still gonna buy from them, regardless of the experience I've had this one time. So as I said, I've owned lava lamps before. They do get cloudy after a while(many years). However, this one came cloudy. I ran it through cycles and then left it off for a few days for things to settle and no improvement. So its either close to 10 years old and the chemistry is all outta whack or someone gave it a crazy amount of shaking, to the point of no return. I'm gonna go ahead and void my warranty or whatever at some point and switch out the liquid myself. It's not super difficult and I've done it before but it is annoying and since I paid nearly $40 for it, I feel like i shouldn't have to do this after just receiving it. after 8-10 years? sure. but right after receiving it? absolutely not. I plan to order the orange wax, original base one at some point in the near future so hopefully that one wont be such a project. I'm not gonna return it cuz...well, im lazy and dont want to drive to the post office...but if they wanna send me another one, I wouldn't be opposed to it. Yes, I gave it 4 stars because I've owned this brand for years and this is my first issue with them, ever. I'm more than willing to give benefit of the doubt and blame the shipping process rather than factory defect or selling an old dusty lamp. These things happen and I will adjust and adapt without going to the post office to wait another two weeks for the situation to be resolved. If your lamp gets cloudy or comes cloudy, you CAN fix it yourself if you feel confident in your ability to do so but if you're unfamiliar with the process then don't do it. However, if you're not-lazy and don't hate driving as much as I do, have this issue resolved by sending it off and getting it replaced. They ARE indeed a good company. Cloudy lamps are not the product of factory issues (usually) - it’s caused by heating and jostling in the shipping process. Mine arrived cloudy twice. You can continue to play Amazon Roulette with returns or rebuys or buy yourself a sawyer mini filter and some distilled water. The filter will clarify the water without damaging the surfactant and the distilled water can top up what got lost in the filtration process (DO NOT FILL ABOVE WHERE THE CAP COVERS. Lamps need room for the liquids inside to expand slightly with heat). Lava brand lamps are good and I love them. I have many and plan to have more. I enjoy modifying them. The liquids can be dyed with Jacquard dyes (powders) and the wax can be dyed with what you’d use for candles. You just are likely to get a cloudy lamp ordering through amazon. That’s ok, just do a tune-up after it arrives and it’ll be good as new. I did steal the chrome base for another lamp and swapped for an iridescent black one. Both the globe and base are very pretty colors ... show more
