I’ve been shopping for a heavier top layer when temps drop below 30F and this coat met all my requirements. It fits well over a sweatshirt or sweater, it covers my waist and has plenty of pockets. I’m not sure I would wear this coat to ski in because it is pretty bulky, but it should be great for all other winter outdoor activities. ... show more

I bought this coat to replace the one I've had since 2002. Needless to say, that one's a bit worn, but still functional. Now it's more of a "working outside" coat on cold days. This new one is 99% as good as the old one. Both are plenty warm and a good length. My only complaint with this new one is that it doesn't have the outer left side breast pocket, the left sleeve pocket, or the netting on the inside. Sadly, The North Face McMurdo Parka fails to live up to the standards set by this once great brand. The outer fabric is stiff. There's no waist cinch to help trap body heat. The faux fur is itchy and looks cheap (I removed it). I couldn't adjust the hood to keep wind out; it lacks wires. And worst of all it's not warm enough. Plus, it's expensive. There are many less expensive options that are notably warmer than the McMurdo. I called The North Face to inquire about the weight of down used in the Parka. All they could tell me was the loft (600). They said that only certain reps have access to the amount of down used. Uh Huh. Most outdoor/adventure brands publish the down weight. Not The North Face. I feel North Face has declined into a fashion brand. Not Recommended. ... show more

By far the warmest coat I've ever had. You are indoors from your neck to your thigh no matter what else is going on. It is big and puffy but not overly heavy. This winter is really making us earn it and the coat feels like justice in the face of adversity.
