I purchased this as a Christmas gift to a newly married couple. I only had the chance to glance through it briefly, but it is an impressively large, hardbound book, with many great recipes, photos, and advice. It gives suggestions on planning meals for guests, or each other, and makes it seem more fun than starting your planning from scratch, without a resource. Many people get their recipes online these days, but it is nice to have something you can flip through, and even just get some inspiration. Makes meal planning less of a chore, and more of an adventure. It seemed a very nice gift for people that you don't know what they need. It would also be a nice gift for yourself, no matter your marital status. I only recall one of the recipes, as I know I commented on it, when writing in the book, and that was Tiramisu. Whelp, I’ve had this book for less than a week and it already has as many crinkled pages and splatter stains as cook books I’ve had for years. My husband and I are not newlyweds, but this book has brought us back into the kitchen, and one I know we will use frequently for years to come. It has wonderful options for weeknight meals and go-to staples, while also offering presentation-worthy recipes that are easy to make for when you host guests. LOVE that it also includes cocktail recipes, homemade kitchen staples like aioli, and yummy and easy snack ideas that somehow still feel fancy. Not to mention, it is just a treat to read - the instructions are like having your sweetest friend talk you through the recipe, with gentle reminders and words of encouragement that help ensure the recipe comes out great every time. Speaking of recipes - they are perfectly simple with just a slight twist, making them very approachable to both cook and eat, but offering a unique element that makes it feel special. Recipes have a fresh Californian / European flair that make them feel fancy, but uncomplicated. Buying a copy for all my upcoming bridal showers, but also excited to give it to my mom for mother’s day and a few friends for their birthday, it’s just that good! ... show more

This is such a cool cookbook with staple recipes as well as fun adventurous ones. They have everything from meals to sweet treats, sauces, snacks, and even drinks. The book not only has recipes but cool add ons perfect for a newlywed couple: essential equipment for a new kitchen, what to stock your pantry with, how to maintain and care for your kitchen tools, menus for entertaining, home bar staples, food storage strategies, how to set the table, a wedding registry checklist, and a space in the back to write your favorite recipes, parties you’ve hosted, and funny stories from around the table! As a newlywed 30 year old myself, I know the trials and tribulations of trying to graduate from 20-something meals and parties to something more mature. This book has something for every couple, on any night of the week. The simple weeknight meals such as "Money in the Bank Breaded Chicken" that include inspiration for how to use the leftovers are so useful when trying to learn how to make the majority of meals yourself, but without having the time to do so every night. "When Company Comes Over" is a fantastic section of the book; throwing a real dinner party can be incredibly intimidating. With Maria's help, though, you can whip up a fantastic cocktail and create an impressive meal without any concern that it won't work. Maria is also quite a baking talent - her one-bowl brownies are legitimately the best baked item to come out of my kitchen. And they are so simple!
