I wish I'd found this book when we first learned our boy had a CCL tear. The whole process would have been exponentially less stressful. The author describes her own experience from conservative management to surgery and recovery, and includes reliable information from professional sources as well. Her book is EASY to follow. Well thought out. After we decided to go with a TPLO surgery, it was incredibly difficult to find info about how to prepare for and care for my dog's recovery. This book has all the info I needed to get ready. I can't believe the reduction in stress that came the minute I had this book in my hands. Hats off to the author. Your book is generous, personal, honest, chock-full of everything I needed to know. For anyone feeling the stress, I enthusicastically recommend this manual.

This book is excellent for a pet owner who has never had a dog go through any type of surgery before. It will set you up for success in many ways a beginner might not even think of. As well as covering a great deal of basics. If you are experienced, this book might not be for you. When it arrived in the mail, I excitedly opened it up & started flipping through the pages when I realized I had done almost everything that was being suggested. It is absolutely my fault that I did not stop & look at the contents of this book before I purchased it. I saw the word, “Essential”, stopped there & ordered it. .. . (and I normally read up & investigate everything before making a purchase). Oops. I was exhausted from everything going on with our pup. I was thinking it would have more of a scientific/medical influence than it did. Again, the author does do an excellent job sharing her personal experience & personal research. Summary: If you are new to this type of experience, this book is an excellent choice. If you have been around the block & this isn’t your first rodeo with an animal having surgery, then you might want to skip it.

This book was really helpful. I’ve been driving myself crazy trying to decide on the TPLO surgery or conservative management… then when I decided on surgery I’ve been driving myself crazy trying to prepare physically, mentally, and emotionally. I feel better prepared having read this books I only didn’t give it 5 stars because of the handful of typos 😂 I’m annoying, I know.

Having a dog who tore his knee ligament can be so disconcerting! It totally flips your world mainly for two big reasons. First, your dog, who was just healthy, playing & loving life is now lame. Lame dogs don't understand what's changed. All they know is that "being a dog" is different. It's heartbreaking when your pet becomes down & depressed because they can't continue to love life like before. Secondly, owners have to learn REAL quickly what to do. It's a whole new learn to embark on that includes choosing an option to get your dog better. That's all an owner wants – to get back to normal. But the options & paths to healing can be so confusing and overwhelming. Researching on the internet, reading old blog posts, joining Facebook groups can be such a back and forth journey that sometimes spits you out the other end shaking your head. Dr. Spinelli tells her story. But it's not just a story. It's a guide, a thorough one too, to help you every step of the way to get that knee injury fixed and your buddy back in the saddle. I've recommended this book to clients who have shared with me stories that seem to come right out of these pages. Maybe this book can be a lifesaver for you too. Good luck. ☘🐾

The Essential Dog Owner's Manual for CCL Injury: What to Do Before, During & After Surgery was a sanity saver! I ordered prior to my dog having TPLO surgery. It helped me understand what was going to happen, how I needed to prepare my home, items I should consider having on hand, and the must haves. I'm so glad I had this book since my orthopedic surgeon didn't give my 1/10th of this information! Knowing how to handle swelling, and things to look for... THis book is packed full of so much information that is easy to understand and implement. I highly encourage you to get this asap if your dog has torn his CCL (ACL). It has made going through the surgery and rehab time so much easier!!! Thank you Carla for writing this for all of us dog lovers!!

The Essential Dog Owner's Manual for CCL Injury: What to Do Before, During & After Surgery has been the biggest help to me during the recovery of my dogs double TPLO surgery. I wished I had purchased the book BEFORE the surgery so I could have gotten myself prepared for surgery (because this book tells you everything you need to know to get prepared and what to do after the surgery) After my dogs surgery I felt completely alone with my girl who had both legs done the same time. It is hard to go through this but with limited information from my vet I felt alone. I went and did some searching around for help and found this book! I believe this should be sold at every vet office out there that does these types of surgery to prepare people as to what to expect! it's a great book and it just walks you through everything you will more than likely encounter during the before during and after surgery. If you dog has to have this surgery BUY THE BOOK! you won't regret it

I absolutely loved this book ! I hate reading but when it comes to my dog ill do anything ! I finished the book in one day and it was extremely helpful ! My dog tore his ACL and needs surgery, I am a super nervous dog mom and this helped calm me a little . He hasn't had the surgery yet as I am unable to afford it but we are doing lots of fundraisers! When he is ready for the surgery I will be alot more at ease and prepared for him to come home , thanks to this book !

This book helped in many aspects of this condition. Would have liked more info on supplements. A lot of this book is devoted to surgery which is not an option for many of us who can't afford the surgery, no matter how much we love our dog. Still, it is a good resource in understanding the condition itself.
