I wish I'd found this book when we first learned our boy had a CCL tear. The whole process would have been exponentially less stressful. The author describes her own experience from conservative management to surgery and recovery, and includes reliable information from professional sources as well. Her book is EASY to follow. Well thought out. After we decided to go with a TPLO surgery, it was incredibly difficult to find info about how to prepare for and care for my dog's recovery. This book has all the info I needed to get ready. I can't believe the reduction in stress that came the minute I had this book in my hands. Hats off to the author. Your book is generous, personal, honest, chock-full of everything I needed to know. For anyone feeling the stress, I enthusicastically recommend this manual.

This book is excellent for a pet owner who has never had a dog go through any type of surgery before. It will set you up for success in many ways a beginner might not even think of. As well as covering a great deal of basics. If you are experienced, this book might not be for you. When it arrived in the mail, I excitedly opened it up & started flipping through the pages when I realized I had done almost everything that was being suggested. It is absolutely my fault that I did not stop & look at the contents of this book before I purchased it. I saw the word, “Essential”, stopped there & ordered it. .. . (and I normally read up & investigate everything before making a purchase). Oops. I was exhausted from everything going on with our pup. I was thinking it would have more of a scientific/medical influence than it did. Again, the author does do an excellent job sharing her personal experience & personal research. Summary: If you are new to this type of experience, this book is an excellent choice. If you have been around the block & this isn’t your first rodeo with an animal having surgery, then you might want to skip it.

This book was really helpful. I’ve been driving myself crazy trying to decide on the TPLO surgery or conservative management… then when I decided on surgery I’ve been driving myself crazy trying to prepare physically, mentally, and emotionally. I feel better prepared having read this books I only didn’t give it 5 stars because of the handful of typos 😂 I’m annoying, I know.

I purchased this book only a few days before my dog, Mika, had TPLO surgery. I soaked up all the information of the pre surgery information. These were basic, common sense things our vet did not provide (not by any omission just things that we would encounter day to day). The story took us on the journey of the authors dog, Vinny pre and post op. It is a well written practical guide that I highly recommend. I am thankful to the author for helping us through this life altering event.

The Essential Dog Owner's Manual for CCL Injury: What to Do Before, During & After Surgery has been the biggest help to me during the recovery of my dogs double TPLO surgery. I wished I had purchased the book BEFORE the surgery so I could have gotten myself prepared for surgery (because this book tells you everything you need to know to get prepared and what to do after the surgery) After my dogs surgery I felt completely alone with my girl who had both legs done the same time. It is hard to go through this but with limited information from my vet I felt alone. I went and did some searching around for help and found this book! I believe this should be sold at every vet office out there that does these types of surgery to prepare people as to what to expect! it's a great book and it just walks you through everything you will more than likely encounter during the before during and after surgery. If you dog has to have this surgery BUY THE BOOK! you won't regret it

This book helped me so much with my dogs TPLO surgery. At first I thought maybe a book about this is over the top- buT NO. There is so much info online that is overwhelming and unproductive and often misleading, so having an actual hard copy book with all my info and notes in one place. It’s full of solid vet-backed info but doesn't overload the reader, the writer also talks to you like she’s in this with you, making you feel less alone going thru this scary experience. It’s empowering to be educated and know how to communicate intelligently with the vets and techs. We all have to be our own advocates in our own health care and our pets advocates! Really appreciate the author putting this together. It’s clearly a labor of love and that she wrote this book is really a generous act of service which is why I felt compelled to write (my v first) review. So grateful for this resource.

The book is part of the author's attempt at a one-stop-shop for information and products the caring dog owner needs to deal with a CCL injury pre- and post-surgery. Because outcomes are so dependent upon the owner's months-long around-the-clock diligence during recovery and rehab, this book is critically important to the owner who has not come to that realization and assembled the resources by other means. There are a lot of short chapters and while I get that they need to cover the whys and hows, but once readers have digested all that, checklists could be very helpful when it comes time to execute on everything in the right order. The one checklist the book points to, a list of questions to "Ask the Expert" , was supposedly in a blog on the author's site but that blog no longer exists. So I'll be among those who the book laments will not ask the vet all the right questions. Critical advice that's missing (and a roughly $1k issue in my case) is that if your vet takes diagnostic x-rays under anesthesia, insist that the knee (stiple) be imaged in a specific alignment so that the tibial plateau angle can be measured at that time. If that measurement waits until the day of your pet's operation, the information comes too late to inform your choice of surgeon and procedure.
