  • Good variety of songs and book has a great layout
Format: Paperback
Another great collection of songs! Was pleasantly surprised at the list offered. There are some very easy songs with only 2-3 simple cords, while there's also some intermediate songs that offer a good challenge for beginners. All have a list of the song's cords in tab visuals at the top, then each cord letter is listed above the measures as you play to indicate where you transition. As a beginner, I will also draw my own tabs next to each letter cord throughout the song so it's an easy visual vs. having to memorize each fingering. This advances my ability to play a song right away - even the first time through, which motivates me to play more. It also speeds up my memorizing of certain cords. Words also included, so great for a sing-along. Overall, the book has a great layout. Since the melody notes are in the measures, so you could even use this for other instruments if desired. I bought this after owning the original Daily Ukulele book for a year, and it's a great companion. Either book by themselves are great, but if you want more, then get both! ... show more

  • A lot of good old songs
Format: Paperback
I initially purchased "The Daily Ukulele" and was very pleased with all of the songs. I think I recognized about 80 to 90 percent of the songs in the book. That lead me to purchase the "Leap Year" edition. It also has a lot of good music in it. Depending on your age, you may recognize a lot more of the music than I. I liked the comb binding of the book. This makes for easy turning of pages and allows the book to lay flat on your music stand or table top. The front section of the book essentially duplicates the front section of the first book. It provides basics of ukulele tuning, strumming, chords, techniques, etc. Like it predecessor, it has the basic chord fingering diagrams at the top of each song. The melody and words are provided with each song. The chord names are printed above the music staff as appropriate. With the two books, I have more music than I will ever need or want. Both are a good investment. ... show more

  • Get it!
Format: Paperback
Get this book if you like a wide variety of music. Excellent arrangements with chord diagrams for ukulele. But, if you know your chords, or can look them up, this works well for guitar, banjo, etc.

  • Not for starter ukulele players
Format: Paperback
Like the headline said, most of these songs would be hard for people just starting on ukulele. I had been playing about 7 years when I purchased this book. One of the first things that pop out is that this uses full music layout with each note on the scale and all the time (i.e. 4/4), key, repeat signs, codas with DC & DS, etc. This takes some learning, even though I played in high school band, unfortunately more than 50 years ago! Beyond that, there is a good selection of songs from the 20s through 70s. I like a lot of them, but I find about 1 out of 10 I will never go back to play. The chords for uke are marked above the notes, and most of these songs will include some chords that you have not encountered before. But once you get settled with the music notations, these songs could be played even if you never heard the song before. I am happy to have bought this, because it is straining me to play my uke better and not just playing from only chords over lyrics. Recommended for at least medium players or those who are quite good at playing from full music notations. ... show more

  • A Great Repertoire Builder
Format: Paperback
In the forward Liz and Jim Beloff said, "We once again sought out well-known songs that were relatively easy to play and sing." I think they succeeded magnificently. They also put different songs into this edition that were not in the previous DAILY UKULELE edition. You know how annoying it is to buy a "new" book and find much of it a repeat from the earlier edition? You don't have to worry here. There are some older songs as in" Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" by T. Koehler & H. Arlen then others more recent in creation such as "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" by J. Fogerty. Lots of good music to work through. I agree they are playable with not an overload of difficult chords but still you learn new ones here and there. Each presentation is clear and very readable with the chords nestled under each song title. A great way to play and sing your way through advancing you skills and musical repertoire. First year players may find this a bit of a challenge but you can usually hear what the songs should sound like on Uke sites on the internet. ... show more

  • great variety for playing uke and singing along
Format: Paperback
this is the second daily ukulele book i got, and to be honest, so far, i still use the earlier version more often, because it has more of the types of songs i need for the senior population i sing for, but this one has a lot of fun songs, and more of them are a bit more current, so i'm sure it will be more popular for certain crowds. in any case, the chords are clearly marked and if you need a little help with them, they are displayed at the top. great variety. lots of fun! ... show more

  • Just as Great as First Book!
Format: Paperback
This book is just as great as the first book, The Daily Ukulele by Liz and Jim Beloff. I am a new ukulele player and this book has helped me go to a new level of playing. I am actually learning some wonder chords and I feel that the arrangements aren't out of reach for a new player. There are also intermediate songs in this book too. Even an advanced player would love it. The collection of songs is diverse. There is something for everyone. I like playing different types of music because it increases my abilities. Many of these songs would be nice played for others. I have purchased several music books before I purchased The Daily Ukulele and The Daily Ukulele Leap Year but I like these two the best. The songs are all on one page. You don't have to turn pages while playing. The chord boxes are clearly listed at the top of each song. I am happy with my purchase. I will be using these two books for a long time. I am currently working my way through them. I hope to be able to play every song in the future. ... show more
