  • Wonderful!
Format: Hardcover
This is a serious cookbook for kids who really want to learn to cook. And not just a recipe book. It’s an instruction manual that starts with lots of kitchen basics and continues with great recipes with clear instructions and kid reviews. Throughout the book are sidebars with all sorts of interesting tidbits, like two ways to cook bacon, an avocado primer, intro to herbs, how to shred lettuce, flipping cornbread out of a pan, using parchment paper, how to frost a cupcake, to mention just a few. It’s really informative, beautifully laid out and so colorful! It begs you to turn the page and discover the next thing. Anyone who reads and cooks through this book will be comfortable and capable to work in the kitchen and have fun in the process. Kudos to America’s Test Kitchen! ... show more

  • Great recipe book for kids
Format: Hardcover
I was looking for something unique for my 10 yr old granddaughter's birthday and found this cookbook. It was a hit! It is well organized with lots of precooking information and instructions for the beginning chef, fun, easy, delicious recipes, and the illustrations are beautiful. My granddaughter loved it and was immediately looking through recipes to make with her sister and parents. It is a great gift for that child who is in between childish toys and teen electronics and accessories. And it is a gift that will get the family involved in something together rather than everyone staring at a screen by themselves! ... show more

  • Mostly good info - for kids of all ages - with reservations as noted! 🤔
Format: Kindle
Basic recipes with good directions and photos. I'd have loved to have had this helpful info when I was young and trying to learn to cook by myself. It was always a joy to surprise my mom with food on the table when she got home from work, even when just a grilled cheese sandwich (made in an old pie pan under the broiler) and a can of soup I'd opened and heated on the stove! The possibilities available in this book are a great beginning to open the imaginations of curious kids to tastes, textures, and the many rewards and confidence boost of good cooking! My only negative comment is the use of food processors and similar newer tools when a large bowl, a spoon or spatula, and some elbow grease worked fine as 'food processors' for centuries...insert eye roll here! Also, describing to the kids how to to separate an egg USING YOUR BARE HANDS was a completely new and approaching barbaric idea I had never heard of or even thought of doing, ick! When there are always two halves of eggshells to use from one to the other, why would anyone pour the raw egg in their hand to let all but the yolk then dribble through their fingers?? Aside from the convenient shells already in your hands, there's also an easy kitchen tool called an egg separater, yes really, that could have been shown among the kitchen tools. Much easier, less gross, and all around cleaner. Otherwise, this book and the baking book for kids are mostly recommended, except they both provide these same glaringly bogus instructions for unsuspecting children. Hmmm, maybe that was the point?? 🤓 ... show more

  • The Most Beautiful, Easy to Follow Cook Book for Young Chefs.
Format: Hardcover
I bought this book as a birthday gift for a young boy who absolutely loves to cook! The book is GORGEOUS with beautiful glossy pages. In the beginning of the book, it tells you what items you need to be successful. The recipes look delicious. The book itself is absolutely beautiful and heavy. Very sturdy. I could not believe the amazing low price I paid for it. Amazing, wonderful book and wonderful seller! ... show more

  • Perfect gift for our 8 year old who loves cooking
Format: Hardcover
We got this for our 8 year old daughter who loves cooking. She wants to help in the kitchen more than we let her, so she had taken to waking up early to make us breakfast. It started as a plate of nuts and fruit, and lately turned into scrambled eggs with toast and we'd jump out of bed when we smelled something cooking to make sure she didn't burn herself. She loves the book, and we are 100% thrilled with it. I LOVE that it's all kid-focused. Kids are featured in the pictures doing the cooking, which is really empowering. There are many side-bars and boxes that provide extra information about modifying the recipes or explain why something is the way it is. We read the recipes as part of her reading homework, and the ingredient lists are teaching her about fractions. As someone who has taught cooking and nutrition classes to adults, I love the sections on healthy eating that teaches about "MyPlate", the part about different knives and how to use them, and the first chapter about cooking tools, ingredients, measuring, conversions, etc. I also appreciate that this kids cookbook isn't just grilled cheese and chicken nuggets. Recipes are rated as beginner, intermediate, or advanced, and there is incredible variety - everything from small items for one person to "friends and family"-sized main dishes, beverages, desserts, sides, breakfast, and snacks. I really think there's something for everyone here. This is a book that our children can grow with for many years. If you plan to really teach your elementary-age child about being confident in the kitchen, this is a great book to guide you. If you have a teenager who wants to do it all themselves, this would also work. We've made about 12 recipes and so far they've all been tasty. That gives me confidence that the authors really did their homework to make sure the recipes taste good and go over well with kids! If your child doesn't seem to like the recipes that are unfamiliar to them, just keep making new things and trying them. When kids are a part of making a dish, they are WAY more likely to try it and like it! ... show more

  • I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY YOUNGER SON WHO IS EXACTLY WHO I THOUGHT OF WHEN I SAW IT!
Format: Hardcover
THE COMPLETE COOKBOOK FOR YOUNG CHEFS: 100+ RECIPES THAT YOU'LL LOVE TO COOK AND EAT! I bought this TERRIFIC COOKBOOK for my younger son since I realize it's target group it's marketed for is a much younger audience. My memories of his buying that horrible box Macaroni & Cheese being his go to meal that he bought a fancier brand, but he has no experience with too many kitchen skills, and I had a look at it and it is very impressive with it being very informative not only with recipes, but a vast amount of other helpful items for the very beginner with it is perfect for him. I buy a ton of books myself, and that I just happened to discover this is pure serendipity. I bought it at least a couple of months ago so I just remember it having been for much younger kids, but I remember how much value it would offer someone who is newly on their own since he has a serious girlfriend that probably cooks since I think she is going to be a keeper so I still loved this enough that it was a purchase I couldn't resist with him in mind. I don't always check reviews when buying my own books, I am pretty sure that I did check the reviews for this with them being remarkably high, and I think it was on sale, but I still would have bought even if it wasn't. I really don't know if he likes it since I forgot about buying this since I am probably one of the most highest spending customer when it comes to buying books here since I love to read and I have a daily habit of buying books that I am dying to read from a couple of years ago. I always buy the Editor's picks on Amazon since I buy most of what they each decide is their choice every month, which I still buy my own choices that is either most of the book clubs choices, and tons that I either love the Author, or my own that I have so many that I just don't have the time to read most, but I think that I buy them mostly every day. I hope that beginner cooks that this is one that I hope if you are new with little to zero experience, I do hope you buy this even though it is marketed for younger people that this is one I would still buy since it has value in various kitchen tools and will be very helpful. ... show more
