There is a lot of mystery in this story, but it builds slowly, so be patient as you will reach the part of the book where you will NOT be able to put it down until the end. The book does have a lot of scientific words so be prepared to use a handy dictionary. I used the o e on my kindle.     • No Let Up as Story Builds
I give this story Four and a half stars!! Angela Hunt blows me away every.single.time!!! This story slowly ratchets up the tension, until, by the end, I thought I might explode! It reminded me of a musical score for a well-written script. You could feel the tension slowly build. There was desperation throughout, in each character's life -- for healing, for love, for success, for validation, for revenge, for understanding, for life. I love allegorical tales, and Angela Hunt is unparalleled in this genre. Several favorites lines and/or scenes: where the Tree People hung their shields and swords on the Shame tree after a battle, when Michael told Alex, "perhaps you weren't healed because you came more as a scientist, instead of as a supplicant." Love the Tree People shaman -- especially when he told Michael, ". . . we have suffered sorrow and death since you came. . . have you light to give us?" The story of Yai Pada Son, and Alex's glorious morning in the keyba! I felt the ending was a tad rushed. As if the author thought we needed a neat bow wrapped around the story. Hence, the 4 1/2 stars. But, this story is an incredible, faith-affirming, against all odds, metaphorical, allegorical, strum of that resounding note in your heart you weren't aware was throbbing to be played. ... show more

    • Thoughtful and Entertaining
Entertaining and informative. Describes the real struggle that goes on in many tribal practices and as usual, Ms. Hunt's love of science and rare maladies is presented in a thoughtful way. A bit fantastical near the end, but I like how Ms. Hunt brings in different perspectives through the character in this particular book. ... show more

Every page is full of intrigue and challenge mentally. I didn't want to put it down, and wanted the world to stop so I could just keep on reading. The story really makes you think about what if's and shows you a whole new view of the world.

This is one of my favorite Angela Hunt stories. You always learn about people and places you've never been (emotionally or physically) and this one has it all. Now, I need to read it again.

    • An interesting and captivating book
The Canopy has a setting that is far from ordinary, and that alone makes it worth reading. Add to that well rounded characters and a plot that includes some suspense along the way, and I can recommend it highly. While I am not sure if I am ready to accept all the ways the evil spirits and their actions are depicted, I do endorse the basic theology of the book, and I do believe there are spiritual forces at work in our world much like those depicted here. If you want a book that will hold your attention and challenge your views of God and how He works in the world, give The Canopy a read. ... show more
