Bought it for a ten gallon tank. It was easy to assemble. I love the fact there are hinges on the lid that make it easy to get into the tank. The lid fits perfectly. The cut out parts in the back are the right size as well. I have the hoses/cords in the small one and I have a pothos plant in the other one. It would be the size for a HOB filter but I have a sponge filter. I did not use the lights that came with the lid. I had another LED strip I wanted to use and it was easy to attach it to the lid. I had purchased this brand before for a larger tank years ago and also had liked it. ... show more

This hood is a good value. It was easy to put together. The lights are great for my 10 gallon tank. I think the lid looks great on my tank. I like the fact that when I clean my tank I can see into the tank so much easier. I also like the opening to feed my fish, it doesn’t get clogged with old fish food. The lid is lite but seems durable. I like that it lifts straight up , although it doesn’t stay up on its own so when I had to put water in the tank someone had to hold it open for me. I have a Penn Plax 1200 filter on my 55 gallon tank. This tank has a substantial bio-load with a RES turtle, 7 Giant Danio fish, and 2 plecos (ugh). But this isn't a filter review, this is a hood/light review! Because I have an above-tank basking dock for my RES, I only needed this hood for one side. It fit one half of my 55 gallon PERFECTLY (purchased the 24x12)! No gaps, no issues. Assembly was so simple (you have to clip the LED lights on, cut out/bend off whatever back opening you want, and clip the hooks to it and the tank, but that's it). The hooks for the back were an added bonus. It came with 8 hooks, but I only needed the 2. There were 4 of each size hooks, so I assume it was for one set of hooks (2) for whatever size tank you have, plus one back up set. I also love that you can customize the back opening for filter components, since I keep the water level pretty high and my turtle would just LOVE to crawl out of the tank. The two filter components had no issues fitting through just one half of the possible opening, while the cord for the heater and light easily fit through the provided opening for the light cord. Very happy with this hood. It's nice and flush, has a small and efficient opening for feeding, and works perfectly. Hopefully it holds up. I wish you could buy the string of LED lights this came with so I could finagle it to the bottom of my DIY dock on the other side, but oh well. Great product, so pleased! ... show more

    • Cheap quality compared to the tank

As other reviewer have said, it does fit my tetra tank perfectly size wise, so it felt like my only choice from the same manufacturer as the tank. The material of the hood is very cheaply built. It's flimsy, and the tank cover was already warped so it doesn't sit flat on the tank. I was disappointed that the hood costs half again as much as the tank -- I would have been okay with this if the material quality matched my expectations, or maybe okay if the hood was priced about half what it is here. While the tank seems like it has good quality materials, this hood feels like very cheap, thin materials, so as a consumer I get the feeling like maybe Tetra was using a pricing strategy rather than trying to give me the best quality. The cutouts only have a few choices, so in order to get the filter in the right spat, I had to cut out the larger cutout than I wanted, then I taped part of it back on to increase the coverage, which means you can see tape on my tank hood -- not a good look. I also found the wire length to the light switch seems very short. My only option is for the light switch to be behind the tank, which is far from convenient and requires me bending down and under the table to switch it on or off. This also felt cheap to me, especially considering that the rest of the power cable is much longer. I plan to eventually buy another hood from another manufacturer instead. ... show more

Seems like a durable material and has the design to let you take out spots of the top to fit things like a filter, heater, etc. You have to put the LED lights on the top, however it was super easy for me. I heard that sometimes these lights might go out, but I received a paper with item ID numbers for the LED lights, so I recommend keeping that just incase!     • Ok overall, but there are some definite faults

This hood perfectly fits my 20 gallon tank, but it is made of cheap plastic and the clip part on the lid broke when trying to attach to the clip. That part of the lid is one of the most important since it connects the hood to the tank, but is also the most flimsy and delicate and should be reinforced better. The led light strip is not attached to the hood which isn’t a huge deal, but it is really bright for the size of the tank. I had to cover 5 of the 9 lights to make it so my fish weren’t stressed. It’s an ok hood overall, but for the quality, I think it is way too expensive. ... show more
