I've owned this item for 6 years and it looks as good as new. And I just started using the cover to grind biscuits. Works great and needs virtually no upkeep. Superior to a ceramic set I tried. You can't go wrong with this. I would do a commercial for this model.

Pretty impressed with this mortar & pestle combination. I remembered my Mother having a marble set of these when I was a kid -- sometimes she'd use it with herbs and seasonings for cooking. I didn't really have an immediate need for one when I purchased this set, just some vague ideas that I could use it for. Now that I've had it for some time, there's some features that I think make this really nice: for one, it being metal really helps with cleanup -- depending on what you're using it for, it'll most definitely need a scrub afterward. The metal makes this easy, and also gives it a really nice weight (both items). The weight makes the process of using it feel really sturdy. One thing I really didn't pay too much attention to originally (because my mother's never had one), but now really, really appreciate about this, is that it comes with the set of plastic covers to reduce spillage over the sides. This has been a lifesaver -- without it, you'd have to be really careful with your grinding, but instead you can just pop one of these covers and go to work without that issue at all. The only downside that I can really think of is that it's a little on the smaller side -- great for most uses, but sometimes feel a larger mortar & pestle would have been a little easier to use. Oh well, this works perfectly for my needs, and I don't have to go out of my way to find a spot to keep it when in storage. All-in-all, completely content with this purchase, very convenient item to have in the kitchen!

I'd give it 6 stars. This thing is thick, heavy and very solid. Took me 15 seconds to crush a large flea pill into a fine powder. I highly recommend it.

I need to grind a lot of pills fine enough to pass through a narrow NG tube without clogging. This set has worked so well that I wound up taking it to the hospital when their "Silent Knight" didn't work on some of the pills. The nurses were impressed with how well it worked! Plus then you can add distilled water and it becomes a perfect little cauldron for stirring up the pill potion and sucking it into an enteral syringe. Rinse clean, wipe dry, ready for the next use. Heavy enough you wouldn't want to lug it around in your purse all day but not quite heavy enough to be an effective murder weapon. Although in a pinch the pestle would add power to your knuckles for a punch. If you are putting the powder into something else, the little brush is perfect, don't lose it. If you do, try an eyeshadow or watercolor brush.

I intentionally bought 2 of these mortar and pestle 'kits': One small (250ml) and one large (350ml). I wanted to compare these items to another mortar and pestle 'kit' that I had purchased from another company on Amazon: A small (250ml) mortar size. The large (350ml) 'kit' that I bought from this company came to me in perfect condition. Beautiful box, impeccable manufacturing/surfacing, beautiful well-rounded (shape) pestle, and a good white brush with hard bristles to empty the mortar. I should mention that I use this for crushing pills that are then put in solution and fed through a feeding tube. They grind easily into a fine powder and MUCH more convenient than using any pill crusher alone. This large mortar and pestle have performed beautifully. I also bought a smaller 'kit' (250ml) to test if a smaller mortar might have an advantage over the larger mortar when crushing pills. (It does). The smaller 'kit' purchased on a different day, on a different order had a slightly damaged box. After opening the item for inspection, I noticed that the mortar had obviously taken a trip out of its box to (probably) a concrete floor. Where this happened is anybody's guess. The bottom rim of the mortar presented a small 1/4" dent with a very small abrasion. Not a big problem, but annoying to be sure. It has absolutely no effect on the performance of the mortar and since there is a rubber gasket on the bottom that comes in contact with the counter surface, it cannot be felt. Someone in 'shipping/packaging' had made a decision after dropping the item that it was "good enough" for whomever bought it. Functionally, this mortar performs extremely well - especially when easily grinding pills to fine powder. I couldn't be happier with that aspect of the 'kit'. It also comes with a white stiff bristle brush for removing the power from the mortar into a glass for mixing with water. Two plastic covers were also supplied to keep the contents inside when initially breaking up the pills with the nice heavy pestle. The pestles for both mortars are the same long size and shape; very well manufactured for their purposes. The smaller size allows the powdered pills to stay closer to the center of the bottom of the mortar and makes for easier handling during the process. Will I keep the small one? Yes, I will. Only because it is a hassle to pack it all up and ship it back for a relatively small problem. Still, it shouldn't have happened, and the company should darn well know this. FOUR STARS WHEN IT COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN 5! The additional 'kit' I bought from another company (reviewed by me at their site) was, in my opinion, inferior. The pestle was about 5/16" shorter than the two identical size pestles I received from this great company. Also, the other company's pestle was not ground properly in manufacturing and was mis-shaped, shorter and had a flat (not rounded) handle end. Uncomfortable for my large hands when grinding. Mail 0rder customers are always at the mercy of unscrupulous shippers and handlers, unfortunately.

I foster special needs dogs that need multiple medications and supplements multiple times a day. Regular pill crushers leave lots of hard clumps of pills that are difficult to dissolve and clog the slurry syringe. I’ve been meaning to try this for some time now and I’m so glad I finally did! Grinds to a fine powder, easily wipes out with the brush, so easy to clean, super sturdy! It saves me so much time in my extremely busy days!! Don’t hesitate!
