The S65K is a new release from TCL with many features home theater enthusiast are looking for. The system came in an L-shaped box and Amazon was kind enough to double box it. There are 4 separate pieces, the soundbar, subwoofer, and right and left surround speakers. They are all wireless, except of course for the power cords for each. From the factory, the subwoofer and surrounds have already been paired to the soundbar, but there are pairing buttons on each in case something goes wrong. The soundbar contains 3 full range drivers for right, left and the center channel, which has a dedicated tweeter. The surrounds get 3” full range drivers, and the subwoofer a 6.5” downward firing woofer with a big tuned port on the back. The system outputs a combined 630 watts from class D amplifiers. No frequency response or THD measurements are stated. A simple remote is included with batteries. The soundbar has a LED display that is hidden behind a mesh screen, so you don’t even know it is there until it comes one. Some of the lettering is hard to see behind the mesh though, so you may have to move around a bit to see what is being displayed. The setup was very simple, and you must download the companion app to get full functionality and to get the latest firmware upgrades. To connect the soundbar, I connected the HDMI Earc port of the soundbar to my TV HDMI Earc port, then my Amazon Fire TV stick to the HDMI port of the soundbar. This will pass the encoded signal from the Fire TV stick to the soundbar then to the TV so the soundbar can decode Dolby Atmos and DTS:X signals. This is the only way for the soundbar to decode Atmos or DTS:X, as the optical port cannot handle high-bandwidth signals. The subwoofer and surround speakers are plugged into a wall outlet for power and the audio signals are wireless. Placement can be important, so you may have to experiment a bit and maybe get creative. Fortunately, the surrounds are forgiving and can be placed on a shelf or on dedicated stands. I put one surround on a table, but the other side of the room does not have a table or surface, so I had to use a stand. I put my subwoofer into a corner where it provides maximum volume and boundary reinforcement. This creates more bass and fewer dead spots, but at the expense of sounding boomy. You can move it around physically to get the best balance, but luckily, TCL has a solution for that with the app. After I downloaded the app, it found the soundbar system immediately and detected that new firmware was needed. This took some time, around 10 minutes or so. TCL’s solution for boomy bass and less than ideal surround speaker placement is their room correction software. The app uses the microphone on your phone to measure the distance of each speaker, reflections, timing, and other factors to get the best sound possible. After that, you can choose equalization settings from 6 predefined modes, or you can custom tune it manually with a 7 band equalizer. There are separate effects settings for night, enhanced surround, and a voice enhance. You can also set the bass and treble separately, as well as volume levels for the center channel, subwoofer and surround speakers. To test the system, I played Atmos encoded movies, and I must say, the effects were astounding. Compared to the soundbar it replaced, a Yamaha 2.1 channel system that can simulate surround channels, it was night and day. I could clearly hear distinct sounds coming from behind and even above me. The RAY-DANZ technology of reflecting and bouncing sound makes a very convincing effect which is truly immersive. Atmos handles sounds as objects, and the handoff from one speaker to the next was seamless and whatever is shown on the screen sounds like it is really moving around the room. Channel separation is top-notch, and voices are crystal clear even without the voice enhancement turned on. Bass is punchy with no slop, and plays deeper than any 6.5” woofer has the right to. It will get very loud, probably loud enough to get complaints from the neighbors. I also played music through the system in both stereo and surround modes. Again, the bass is deep and tight, the mids and highs are smooth and clean, and the soundstage is wide and deep. I did notice that like most soundbars, this one has a V-shaped frequency response, meaning the bass and highs are pronounced. You can change this through the equalizer though. Overall I think this is the soundbar system to beat under $700. I say that because I have several soundbar systems from Samsung, LG, Yamaha, and Klipsch, ranging from $300 to $1200, and these are in that budget sweet spot for price vs performance. Does it compare to a full blown 11 channel dedicated speaker system? Of course not, no soundbar can do that. But these are excellent not only for the price, but they can outperform other soundbars that are double the price. A few minor downsides includes the app needing some refinement and a better display on the soundbar. I also have some trouble syncing the remote with my Fire TV, and I am still looking for a solution to that. If you are looking for one of the best budget soundbars available in 2026, put this one on your shortlist.

I was hoping to be way more blown away by this soundbar system than I actually was. This is my first experience using a soundbar. In the past I have set up and used an AV receiver with individual speakers. I decided to try this soundbar solution on an older TV we set up in the spare basement bedroom. The older TV does not have an eARC HDMI connection, so I used the digital out, which worked very well when this TV was originally connected to an AV receiver. While these are 'wireless', that really only means you don't need speaker wires for the satellite speakers. Personally though, I find speaker wires easier to run and hide than the bigger fatter power cords required for wireless speakers. With power cords, you are more limited to placement as you need to be nearer to a plug. Set up took longer than I thought it would. The wireless bluetooth speakers paired easily, but you are required to download an app to your phone to control any of the features of these speakers. Using the app also requires creating a login/password to TCL. Being old school, I hate being require to create an login just to use a speaker for my TV! Also, I'd rather have handy and easy to use knobs and dials than an app. When the app was installed and login created, it then decided to take 10-15 minutes to upgrade the firmware of the soundbar. Once that was all done, finally time to check out the sound. While overall the center and satellite speakers are a huge improvement over the basic TV speaker, I found the subwoofer irritating, it's much too loud and overwhelming and takes over. I prefer my subwoofer to add a subtle booming sound that you almost feel instead of hear and enhances the viewing/listening experience. Using the app, you can turn it down slightly, but not enough in my opinion. It's very annoying, especially during commercials. I fussed a bunch with the settings and options in the app, but it's still more annoying than enjoyable. I will have to play with the placement of the subwoofer to see if it can be improved. It was on a carpet covered concrete floor. I moved it to the TV stand with slight improvement. Any other placement will require me to rearrange furniture so that will be a future project. I might just unplug it for now. Another issue I found is the requirement to use the speakers remote instead of just the TV remote. I have yet to find any way to sync them. So I have to turn on the TV and speakers separately with 2 different remotes. While I realize this is an older TV, this was never an issue when using it with different AV receivers in the past. The instructions are very basic. If you don't have a TCL TV and the expected setup, there is not much information to help you.

A few years ago, I got a crazy nice OLED and the super expensive soundbar that went with it after I tried cheaper sound bars because the price of the one that I saw with it was rediculous. none if thr cheaper bars were tolerable, but even the expensive matched-brand sound system had satellite speakers and that kept bothering me because it felt flat. Its been a few years and although I still love my tv, the sound bar still bothered me. I spotted this TCL S65K system and saw it also had 5.1 channel Dolby Atmos, plus the two satellite speakers and a sub but it had 630 watts vs 550 for my old system. It was less than half the price, so I gave it a try and am blown away by how cool it is. Movies come to live and fully emerge you in the scenes. I can pair my phone and rock out with my music apps from anywhere, controlling everything from my phone. Set up was easier than I thought....the volume was all the way to zero so I kept thinking I wasnt connecting it correctly, lol. Just admitting that ao no one else has that issue. HDMI Arc is bomb. I can hear and understand voices better >in films because it separates the sounds for me, making it easier for me to understand even when a soundtrack tries to overpower it. Its not just "louder" its detailed. once I powered everything on, it connected to itself on its own. I just had to plug everything in. I'm rewatching films like its the first time. My only complaint is I don't like the display. Its behind the perforated metal speaker housing so its very hard for me to read. I have to squint to read it. I am.also getting used to how it interacts with a different brand tv that wants to force you to use its brand only, but its still easier than the odd idiosyncrasies my old sound bar had. This TCL is far more advanced than anything even a few yeara old and the price is outstanding.

At the current price, this package is an absolute steal. A full 5.1 system consisting of a soundbar, a wireless sub, and 2 wireless rears. I set this up in a medium size room on a 55” TV, and oh boy does it pack a punch. It arguably outperforms my more expensive LG soundbar (more expensive for just the soundbar), and the rear speakers really help with immersion. Clear across all frequencies, including vocals. The system took about 30 minutes to fully install, and the hardest part was getting power to the rear speakers without running extension cables across the room. It connected to my LG TV pretty seamlessly via HDMI ARC, and now I control everything with just my Apple TV remote. The included remote for the sound system is functional, but a little cheap. Honestly, that’s where I want them to cut corners to make it less expensive, since I never use the included remote anyway. Overall, this is an excellent budget system that way outperforms its cost. While it won’t deliver the same punch and clarity as a true pass-through 5.1 system with a dedicated receiver, the gap is smaller than I thought.

This TCL S65K soundbar system is excellent once you dial in the proper EQ. Out of the box it sounds fine, but after some tweaking, the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X really open up and the surround speakers feel way more immersive. The wireless sub hits hard without rattling, and the whole setup connects smoothly. The AI Sonic auto calibration helps, but doing a bit of manual adjustment makes a big difference. After that, movies and games sound fantastic, with clear dialogue, wide soundstage, and strong bass. Overall, a great 5.1 system that performs extremely well once you get the EQ set right.
