I have Rocky clay crappy dirt. So bad in fact that a trencher wasn’t able to get through to put sprinklers in. We had to hire a large piece of equipment. These worked great! I was able to plant about 50 plants in 2 days. I am actually going to buy some for my son I loved them so much.

Fantastic product! I just got around to planting some small potted plants and bulbs in be ground and these augers worked perfectly. I have a Dewalt DCD 1007 drill which I used with the lever arm attached. The drill was in low speed and has an anti-kickback feature. That setup was good enough to make a roughly 6” diameter hole with the larger auger in hard packed, rocky earth. It did the task much faster than digging with a towel and was a lot more fun too! I saw no evidence of damage to the augers at all even though the drill was putting out a ton of torque to make the holes. One thing I didn’t realize is that you’re not limited to the diameter of the auger itself, you can move it around to make a larger hole certainly for the larger size auger. A couple disclaimers: I only used the augers once so far, and I have one of the best cordless drills on the market. If you don’t have a drill which is as powerful or lacks a lever arm, this might not be the product for you. ... show more

Bought this to make post hole digging easier. It is too small for the hole, but worked to loosen up the soil and make digging easier. Saved me a bunch of time! Only taking away one star because the steel on the hex connection with the drill is VERY soft, and when the auger hit rocks or had any side loading on it, the metal sheared and the auger slipped out of the drill chuck. Other than that, the rest of the tool held up very well and basically fulfilled its intended purpose, even though I was pushing it a little harder than I think it was designed for. I use this auger to drill pilot holes for my Gopher Hawk mole trap. It's much easier than using the spike tool that comes with a trap. Use the probe to find a tunnel and use the auger to create a nice, clean hole to set the trap in the tunnel. This auger has the perfect diameter for the Gopher Hawk. It is well made and solid. The functionality is just what I was looking for. It also was very inexpensive. It actually costs less than a replacement spike tool. Great auger bit. Once I was able to cut through the roots, I used the auger to loosen the dirt and shoveled it out of the hole. Cut my work time in half. Durable and sturdy. Fits well into the drill shaft and locks well with the hexagon shape end. Smooth operation in dirt but if you have a lot of roots, be aware of a sudden pickup that can twist and injure your hand. I use slow speed initially until I loosened the dirt then high speed to dig the hole. ... show more

The auger may work well in soft soil. But for my Georgia clay soil with rocks, it did not work well. I purchased it hoping to make digging small holes for grass plugs easier and faster. The soil was damp from rain when I used it, but that didn't helped. It was light weight and easy to handle until I hit rocks. I came out much better just using a pick to dig my holes. I also didn't like having to bend over to use the auger. May be a good product for soft soil. I am returning the item. ... show more
