It works great. I used it to plant this year and attached it to a basic Craftman drill. It had no problem staying connected to the drill. It went into and out of the ground with no problem. I will say that I tried to use it with my dominant hand while holding a baby on my hip and that is a terrible idea. Do not do that. Use two hands on your drill bc this thing will really grab into the ground and keep going. It twisted my arm when I tried to do it one handed. You need a firm grip! I don't do a lot of planting but typically use about 3 dozen impatiens or begonias. I hated doing it because I would have to get on my knees with a trowel and dig all those holes trying to keep them evenly spaced. I just got this augur and attached it to a standard power drill (Ryobi 18V) and I don't think it took 10 minutes to drill the holes and plant the flowers. Each hole takes seconds, and it is easy to place the holes exactly where I need them. I have a soil garden so not sure how it would perform in harder clay as some reviews have mentioned (not sure the plants would do so well in clay anyway). We’re trying to xeriscape our yard little by little and I bought about 30 plants this year. I was dreading digging all those holes so I was planning on buying an electric fence post hole digger which is sooo expensive and definitely overkill for planting but then we found this. It worked great with our drill. The only warning I have is if you have thick heavy soil like our clay soil, sometimes it’ll catch on the soil and the drill will spin instead of the end of it and it’ll take your wrist with it. I almost sprained my wrist immediately but then once I figured that out I just braced the drill with one leg by placing it next to my calf. When it got stuck it would push on my leg and I’d let go of the trigger button right away and it solved the problem so just be super careful of that. Otherwise it’s amazing and I did all 30 of my holes in literally less than 20 min! ... show more

The auger is very sturdy and well made. My issue is that while it says it is okay for an18v drill, my yard has clay soil. My drill is 20v so maybe a larger volt drill would work in this soil, but 20v is not cutting it, at all. Maybe the seller could test larger drills in clay soil and report what voltage is needed for clay soil. I won’t be buying a larger drill and won’t be able to use this auger with a 20 v, but I will keep it as I did try to use it and failed. ... show more

Good option for planting flowers in a flower bed, small plants. definitely helps out a lot, although you do have to then shovel out the dirt or somehow get the dirt out of the hole, but really breaks up difficult ground. I personally have clay and it really worked much better than a shovel.

I saw these planting augers on YouTube so figured I’d try one. I really like it. We have pure clay here in NC so any time I put something in the ground, the soil needs amending first. Now I just add whatever to the top of my plant area and drill it into the clay and it works like a heavy duty mixer and makes a planting hole at the same time. That’s a win win! ... show more
