We cook rice quite a bit in our house. I buy the larger bags of rice (though not the 25 pounders…). I used to keep it in a gallon ziplock and that worked fine. Then I found this. Game. Changer. First off: this this is sturdy and strong. I’ve accidentally dropped this thing full of rice and it did not pop open like I would have expected. It stayed sealed and did not break! Second: it is super useful! 1 cup of rice is the perfect helping for our household. Being able to measure that in the handy attached measuring cup/lid is perfect. I can then use a separate measuring cup for water only then dry it and put it away without having to add any dirty dishes. Third: it is easy to handle. Despite my dropping it, it is actually easy to handle. There is a handle at the top and it had contours on the side making it easy to grip when pouring. I have small hands so if I can grip it, just about anyone can. It’s a good size, too. Any larger would make it too heavy. My only suggestion would be to make it wider and shorter. It doesn’t fit standing up in my cabinet nor will it slide in on it’s side since it is too tall/long for my cabinet. Instead, it slides into my pantry on it’s side. Which is fine - one side is flat so it does stand up on it’s side and the handle on the top makes it super easy to get in and out (I’m sure that is all by design which makes this such a great piece). I’ve gotten used to it being in the pantry, but would like the option of having it in the cabinet with the other starches. ... show more

This goes super well with my Zojirushi rice maker. I've been buying a lot more rice since buying that machine and needed something to store it. This does so perfectly, and I am sure it can be used for things other than rice. It holds a good amount, is sturdy, and the cup that it comes with fits in perfectly snug with the canister. It is also easy to wash in any kind of washing machine. The spout is pretty ample as well. My only gripe is that the measuring cup it comes with is super custom to this canister, and no other measuring cup will fit on top of it. It becomes a bit of an issue with things that don't use standard cup sizes as it is difficult to convert. Again, not a big deal but should be noted. Dunno about using this for rice, but it ought to work well. I use it to fill bird feeders - mine fill from the top, and it's otherwise difficult to avoid spilling birdseed all around the feeder. The funnelled opening makes filling easy and pretty much spill-free. Just about perfect size; if it was smaller, it wouldn't hold enough, and if much larger, it would likely be unwieldly. Seems pretty sturdy, but I've only been using it for a few months, so can't really speak to durability. ... show more
