I was actually going to buy a cheap one but read the reviews about this saving peoples lives in pools, and after reading some stories I decided to get the real thing. It came very quickly and after using it in the pool a bit to test it I am glad I bought this one. I think this will last forever.

This is not a cheap foam ring but made of sturdy heavy duty plastic. It’s a bit overkill for a pool but better safe than sorry

...Thank Goodness, I haven't had a chance to use this here at the lake. I hope never to use it! It hangs on a tree JUST IN CASE. It's heavy. I assume I'd not throw it, but use it in front of me as I swam to extend it to the person to be rescued. This item met all my expectations. It was a terrific purchase and the wife uses it just to float around in the pool. She puts it under her arms and off she goes. Not intended for that, but that gives it a lot more use. I highly recommend this item; it is reasonably priced and it is a very good product.
