    • Does not provide HDMI video for USB-C without its own Alt-Mode support already built in.
The write-up on this suggests it provides video Alt-Mode for type-c ports that don't already have it. Tried Insignia and Amazon Basics, both also say they PROVIDE Alt-Mode support (as opposed to USE Alt-Mode support). Bottom line for me, wanting to use my C port to drive a 2nd HDMI monitor from my laptop: Useless. Really wish these makers make it clear that their devices do NOT provide the Alt-Mode support. Then again, maybe I'm expecting something impossible but several places like CNET, PCMag, say such converters exist. Not all of these C-2-HDMI converters are pass-through but some actually do provide the video support. So they say. So where are these converters???     • Rarely successfully connects to my monitor
EDIT: If I don't use USB-C power pass-through, I have fewer issues with my monitor connecting. Connect your USB-C power to a different port on the laptop, you may have better luck. I replaced this with a Vava hub that just works. I have a new MBP and an HP HDMI monitor. When I plug this targus adapter in, the monitor rarely realizes that it's connected, getting no signal. I have to turn off the monitor, unplug the USB-C power from targus, unplug targus from my MBP. Wait 15 seconds. Re-plug USB-C power. Re plug into MBP. Power on Monitor. Then I have about 50% chance of the monitor receiving a signal and becoming my secondary display. Disappointing product, will look for a replacement. Works fine for my USB mouse/keyboard. Those always seem to reconnect. Another reviewer mentioned something about this targus not having alt-power. I don't know what that is, but if you're reading this review you're probably having the same issue and may want to read his review. ... show more

The device works on both MAC and PC. The only problem I have with the device is that when you safely eject a USB device, the adapter makes a low volume-high pitch squealing noise. Other than that, the product works.

    • Barely works
Not sure if I got a defective unit but this is quite possibly the worst adapter I’ve ever used. It usually takes 30+ attempts to connect my Mac to my display. I’d say it has about a less than 5% success ratio of actually displaying. This will be getting returned.

    • Noise is quite annoying. Thinking about returning
I bought this product from a local store. It is working properly however strange static noise is coming inside of the adapter as soon as i plug it in to my Macbook and even noise is very low volume, it is quite annoying. Thinking about returning.

    • Doesn't Work
The USB-C port does not work with a monitor that is plugged into it. When using the USB 2/3 port with my mouse, it makes an annoying electronic noise. Steer clear.
