  • Not plug-n-play in the good ole' USA

Let's stop the insanity! This is a tough review. Both NEC and NFPA have restrictions against these single-phase 120V instantaneous heaters. Ask me how I know! But alas, they are available and there are workarounds, safety aside. Perhaps you've opened the cabinet under the break room sink to view a small tankless heater just like this one! You were amazed that such a small device could yield so much hot water! Your water heater at home is as big as a kayak! That's not what this heater is. Looks can be deceiving. And dangerous! Those units are generally 220V, professionally wired into a subpanel. One cannot run a standard outlet within 6' of water. GFCI outlets (maximized at 20 amps) are mandatory. Even if this unit draws less than its professed rating, the cord on this unit is 3' long. An extension cord isn't an option. So much is wrong in this equation. The description clearly states 30 AMPS. And yes, that is indeed a standard 3-prong grounded receptacle in the right application, in which 30 amps refers to the circuit breaker that will protect a 20 amp appliance. I have several dedicated 30-amp breakers in my giant service panel. You might also. But those appliances are technically drawing no more than 20A. A circuit breaker is usually calculated to be roughly 125% of the nominal load. Large Window or Portable Air Conditioners: High-capacity cooling units that pull close to the limit of a 15A or 20A circuit sometimes require a dedicated 30A single-pole line. But they aren't near water. Heavy-Duty Workshop Tools: Large stationary shop equipment, heavy air compressors, or dedicated industrial/scientific gear rated for higher 120V current draws. But they aren't near water. This mini tankless water heater's 30 amp requirement is a 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘄. That requires a 40 amp breaker and a different outlet configuration. A 40 amp breaker requires a subfeed. Also required is thicker wire and so much more. Notably, this tankless heater (along with all the other plug-n-play heaters) is a "burst" unit at best. Washing your hands for 60 seconds or filling a pan to cook Raman is nominal. There is nothing "continual" about it. Of course there are different usage scenarios and applications in which this tankless heater could be of use. The size is right. Under fifty bucks presents reasonable value if you understand how to tap into the terminals and do what needs to happen electrically in the chain. That's my plan. Do you wonder why I ordered it in the first place? Because I'm going to crack open the box and hopefully find that it's overrated. If so, I'm going to use it with a 50 amp Generac, through a 40 amp AT switch with a water supply at ground zero for cleaning my hands after cleaning fish! ... show more

  • Small, but mighty..
Color: Ivory
I’ve been using this 110V electric tankless water heater and overall I’m impressed with how convenient such a small unit can be. The biggest advantage is having hot water available on demand without having to maintain a large storage tank. It takes up very little space and is a great option when you need hot water in a smaller area. The compact design makes it especially useful for places where space is limited, such as under a sink, a small bathroom, an RV, workshop, garage, or other point-of-use application. Instead of heating and storing a large amount of water all the time, the unit only heats the water when there is a demand for it. I also like the simplicity of having a 110V unit. It can be a practical solution when you don't have the electrical capacity or wiring available for a larger 240V tankless system. That said, the lower voltage also means this type of heater has limitations. A 110V unit is generally better suited for one low-flow fixture at a time rather than trying to supply an entire house or multiple showers. Electric tankless heaters need significant power to raise water temperature as flow increases, so expectations need to be realistic. Installation does require some attention to the electrical requirements, though. Even though it's labeled 110V, these heaters can draw substantial amperage depending on their wattage, so the circuit, breaker, wiring, and installation need to match the manufacturer's specifications. I would definitely recommend making sure the electrical system is properly sized rather than simply plugging it into an ordinary household outlet. Any shared circuits should be avoided, as the 3000w that is drawing can overload a circuit if other appliances are connected. Overall, I think this is a useful solution for anyone who needs hot water in a small space and doesn't need the capacity of a full-size residential water heater. It's compact, convenient, and provides hot water on demand. Just keep in mind that a 110V tankless heater is best considered a point-of-use solution rather than a replacement for a high-capacity whole-house system. For my needs, it has been a practical little heater and a good way to get hot water where I need it without installing a large traditional water heater. ... show more
