  • Good value
Style: 18-200mm
I used to do a lot of photography in the days of film. I had a couple single Lens Reflex cameras. I did not adapt to Digital well mainly because of the cost of the lenses. but I came across this Canon Rebel Ti4 and the guy gave it to me, but the lens on it was a 18 - 55 F3.5 lens. So It was difficult getting good wild life shots. I saw this Tamron lens for $200 and wondered what was wrong with it but have had several Tamron lenses in the past so thought I would give it a go. So I will compare it to the original 18 x 55 lens that was on the camera. First thing I noticed. It was heavier. to be expected, you have a lot more lens. So it will be heavier. Then I notice when zoomed in the lens to 18mm it is about the same length as the original 18 x 55. a little bigger diameter, I think the filter size is 64 versus 58 or something like that. I tried same light conditions at different focal lengths. I did not notice aperture loss between the two. meaning at 18 mm and 55 mm I needed and could get the same aperture for both at the same shutter speed. The zoom on the Tamron was tighter. The Canon was easier but the Tamron was not hard to zoom. but considering for the same twist, you are zooming almost 4x the length so I will accept that. it is mechanical advantage. When zoomed out to 200 the Tamron is about 2 x the length of the Canon lens. hence the weight. The Tamron auto focus is super quiet. you do not hear it. Now if you like hearing it too bad, you don't have to worry about the sound of the auto focus scaring away that humming bird with the Tamron. The Tamron has a zoom lock that locks it at 18 mm for storage. which is nice but maybe not necessary as it is pretty tight and does not move on its own anyway. For me I think the lens is great. I have not used it enough to comment on picture quality but for the price and adjust ability I think it is great. not super fast, but not a slouch. I would say why pay more for an every day lens. I think I still would like to get a lens down into the 1.2 f stop area. but they get pricey ... show more

  • Fantastic Prime Lens
Style: 18-200mm
I have a Canon SL1 purchased a few years ago. Like most people I take most all my photos outdoors, visit National Parks. I was tired of carrying a bag full of lens and wanted to get my camera bag down to two lens. First let me say I'm not a professional photographer but love taking great photo's. My goal was to find a light all in one lens, close up and zoom. Up to this point my Canon 55-250mm was my prime lens. Then a friend told me about a newer version of Tamron lens, the 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di ll VC. I loved the 18mm for close ups and 200mm would be plenty for zooming in. It weighted 1.19 lbs compared to my Canon 55-250mm at 0.83 lbs. Not much different until I took some photos. I was really impress and pleased with it's performance especially when getting close up photos, sweet. I carry three lens in my bag now, I know I said I wanted only two, my nifty 50 and 24mm pancake lens. If I'm in the city I use my nifty 50 during the daytime and my 24mm in low light conditions. BIG TIP: be sure your firmware on your Canon camera is up to date or the Tamron may struggle communicating with your Canon. Easy and free to update firmware. Call Canon at 1-800-652-2666, they're super. ... show more

  • A great addition for my camera arsenal!
Style: 18-200mm
A great addition to my camera lenses!! I love that I don't have to keep changing my lenses for up close to distant shots all the time. This works great for taking flowers, birds & animal pictures.A must have for these kinds of picture taking. I'm going to have fun taking all kinds of bird pictures with this great lens! The auto-focus & anti-shake features work great for my Canon Rebel EOS SL1 camera!! This is really a great lens for the price. Works great for the beginner to intermediate photographer alike. Good luck! ... show more

  • but overall I think it's good for the money
Style: 18-200mm
This is a decent and affordable superzoom lens. With all superzooms there will be compromise with image quality and this lens is no exception. It can be a little soft at 200mm, but overall I think it's good for the money. It's light but has a solid feel to it. The size is nice and makes it easy to carry around all day. If you really need higher quality you'll need to spend more and go with something like the 16-300mm, but if this lens is what your budget allows it'll work nicely. ... show more

  • So handy!
Style: 18-200mm
I am not an expert photographer by any stretch - I would actually call myself more of a picture taker! I love having the 18-200 in one lens for general photos. Switching them out using our previous lenses was a pain - sometimes I just want to hop out and take some pictures and not always lug around the extra lenses/camera bag. Really good quality for the price! ... show more

  • Not an ideal lens for Canon 80D
Style: 18-200mm
Many malfunctions with this lens. The auto focus feature does not react immediately with a press on the shutter button. In addition, the auto-focus was very slow to focus when composing the image in the lens. At other times the lens was totally unresponsive when the shutter button was depressed. Many missed shots because of this type of malfunction. Also, when composing an image through the view finder, the image would drop down a bit and to the left as the lens was securing it's new position. This also delays taking the picture as this aberration is sporadic at best. I am wondering if this is a lens that has some internal issues or is incompatible with the Canon EOS 80D. I am displeased with this lens. In my 55+ years in photography this is the first Tamrom lens I had problems of this magnitude.Help? ... show more

  • I love this lens! Where has it been all my life?
Style: 18-200mm
First, I am a novice. I am not looking to win and photo awards. I am just doing family life, church life, and social media management photography. That said I have had any Canon Rebel for a few years now and it was ok. But most times not a lot different than my smartphone. This lens blows me away! It is so easy to shoot high-resolution shots and keep them clean, clear and focused at almost any distance. The 18-200mm range is pretty much perfect for any general shot a novice would need to make. Bottomline: If you are a novice and unsure what to buy or what you need to make your camera come alive all over again to you? Buy this, you will be happy. ... show more
