Description

The wider end of this unique mirrorless zoom is particularly useful for side- line sports, wildlife and other subjects that move closer as you are shooting, allowing you to continue photographing without changing lenses. The precise arrangement of special lens elements effectively delivers uncompromising high image quality throughout the entire zoom range. The lens is incredibly compact at 185.8mm (7.3") long and light at just 1,180g (41.6oz). Lighter and more compact than a conventional 100-400mm class zoom, it's comfortable to carry all day. The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 VC is equipped with TAMRON’s VXD linear motor focus mechanism and VC image stabilization mechanism. These features combine with others make it possible to capture sharp images and provide users comfortable shooting opportunities even when shooting wild birds and fast- moving sports action. Additionally, you can enjoy the world of half-macro photography with excellent close-up shooting capabilities. The MOD is a scant 0.25m (9.8") at the 50mm end, and the maximum magnification ratio is 1:2. Furthermore, you can customize certain functions and update the firmware via the Connector Port by using the dedicated TAMRON Lens UtilityTM. For this zoom lens, TAMRON Lens Utility newly offers a “Focus Limiter” function. The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 VC is clearly a brand-new kind of ultra-telephoto zoom lens covering 50mm standard focal length, outstanding image quality and high portability. • Wow! Amazing lens
I've always been of the mindset that, if I have a Nikon camera - just get the native Nikkor lenses that made especially for the camera. And that's what I did when putting together my kit ... all Z lenses, and mostly from Nikon S-series. The only lens I didn't have was a long tele-zoom lens - the 100 - 400 mm was drool-worthy, as was the 180 - 600 mm ... except for two things. They were both too long to fit in the sling camera bag I carry ... and, the price. They were $800 and $1,000 more (even on sale) than the Tamron 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di IIIVXD. So, after reading & watching a ton of reviews I thought I'd give the Tamron a try. And it has blown me away. Image quality is crazy good (the bokeh on the attached pelican photo was at f.6.3!), auto-focus is real fast, and the lens is even comfortable and light enough to use hand held - and without a collar on my tripod. And as importantly (to me) - the lens is one of the smallest zooms at 7.2" long ... meaning it fits into my sling camera bag. Highy, highly recommend this lens - the best $1,199 you'll ever spend for image quality. ... show more

  • Tamron 50-400mm is super impressive
This is an amazing lens. Before purchasing the Tamron 50-400mm Z, I researched many YouTube and blog reviews, customer comments, websites, etc. - Summary everyone is impressed with this sharp and versatile lens. My experience using it with a Nikon Z7ii is amazing, the optics is great, the build is great, functions great, and it is lighter than I expected (it can be used handheld or with a tripod). It is easy to hold, focus, and shoot. Super impressive. I have several Nikon Z S series lenses and this lens is clearly designed and built to the same standards. It is a performer. I also bought a collar and a bag designed for this lens size. I am very pleased with this purchase. BTW: Researched to be sure my lens was sold and shipped through Amazon, an authorized dealer. Applied the serial number to Tamron for registeration and it was accepted. Update: I've had more time to use this lens still very impressed with every aspect of this lens. The moon photo was taken hand held. I am amazed with the results. ... show more

  • Good lens at a Good Price
Good value for the money. Very wide focal length range. Not a very sharpest lens and f-stop is too large to be good at night. This makes sense if you dont need great image quality, do not plan to shoot in the dark, and prefer lighter lens. For better image quality, brighter photos, or a more durable well built lens, look at the Nikkor Z 100-400mm VR S. You don't get the 50 - 100mm, but you will like the image quality. For low end, the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 will out perform this. Again, this is a good lens. Its light, versatile, reasonably priced and takes good images when subject is well lit. Image quality is maybe 7.5/10. Notable vignetting. ... show more

  • Fantastic lens!
Could not be happier with images from this lens!! A bit on the heavy side but worth it for the image quality. I have this and the Nikon 24-120mm. Just 2 lenses and I've got 24-400 covered!

  • excellent buy.
For Nikon. This is an excellent buy. Just overall a good lens. Better than the Nikon version. At a much lower price.

  • Good lens, but minor design flaws
I had this lens for a short time and used it on my Nikon Z50ii. Great sharpness and resolution, but I had a couple issues that made me sell it. 1- the VC is great at shorter focal lengths, but it's really 'nervous' at the long focal lengths. 2- when I used it at the long focal lengths, on a tripod, and pointed at high angles (example: moon photos) the lens creep was pretty bad. With no focal length lock I couldn't use it for one of my favorite use cases - moon photography. ... show more

  • Great all around lens…
It’s the lens that spends most time in the camera, great range, also good magnification. Very crisp and good pleasant bokeh. The autofocus is good, but not as good as in The Nikons Z mount(eg: 180-600 zoom).

  • Crappy OIS
OIS is Ok at best for photos and abysmal for video... Took this to Virginia Beach for the Blue Angels along with my Z6III and I'd say out of 7500+ pictures 2500 or less were absolutely sharp and the video was so unstable it was heart breaking. I have the 35-150 F2-2.8 and wish I had brought it instead! Please fix the VC and also give us the ability to turn it off for video and use IBIS instead! ... show more
