Description

Express your vision in intimate detail an f/2.8 high-speed zoom made for Sony full-frame mirrorless packing cutting-edge technology into a compact body, Tamron has created a high-speed zoom lens specifically designed for Sony mirrorless cameras: the 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III rxd (model a036). a great addition to the Sony E-Mount, the a036 strikes a beautiful balance between vibrant image quality, superb bokeh, compact size and lighter weight. Specialized glass elements throughout control various aberrations and produce stable resolution across the entire zoom range. All the lens surface is treated with Tamron’s proprietary BBAR (broad-band anti-reflection) coating, which dramatically reduces ghosting and flaring while preserving crisp image quality. The a036 also incorporates an all-new high-speed precision AF drive system with an rxd (rapid extra-silent stepping drive) motor unit that is remarkably quiet. In addition to portraits, nature shots and street photography, the 0.19M minimum object distance (MOD) lets you enjoy new forms of photographic expression with close-up shooting at the wide-angle end. With moisture-resistant construction and fluorine coating, this lens offers exceptional mobility and outdoor functionality. It is the only zoom you need to portray the world in all its full-frame beauty.

  • Best Value Telephoto Lens for the Money on a Sony
Style: Lens Only
One of the best investments I've made in photography-related equipment in a while. This lens is tact sharp, has a decently large, standard telephoto range, and is rather sturdy. The Tamron 28-75mm is easily one of the sharpest lenses available for the Sony in its category. As far as I can tell, it is only slightly softer than the over-$2000 Sony 24-70mm for less than $900, although in some cases I have seen it actually beating the Sony in sharpness. The Autofocus has been fixed through easily installed firmware and is now relatively fast. Not the fastest, but definitely not as slow as it was before, and may even be faster than the Sony as well. The biggest fault to the lens would easily have to be its build quality; despite being a rather sturdy lens, the materials used fall short of equivalent Sony lenses, even the cheaper Sony 85mm f/1.8 which is built like a tank, is even sharper, and costs less, although it is a prime which makes it hard to really equate the two. Easily recommended. ... show more

  • One lens to rule them all...
Style: Lens Only
Disclaimer: I’m a photography enthusiast, not a professional. And I use the Sony a7iii body. Likes: - excellent (fast and accurate) autofocus on par with native Sony lens (of which I’ve used several). Works great with continuous autofocus - my 3 year old has put it through its paces indoors. - lightweight - moisture resistant - very good flare resistance (your images don’t get that annoying haze when you take pictures on sunny days facing the sun - and if they do it’s easily corrected in post). - very good color rendition. - very good out of camera contrast - ridiculously sharp (especially in the center, quite sharp in the corners, great sharpness throughout range). - one of the smaller zooms. Only the Sony Zeiss 24-70f4 is smaller. - f2.8 constant aperture allows for nice headshots/portraits at 75mm and great light gathering at 28mm - good bokeh Dislikes - a wee bit long. Not truly discrete. - zoom ring is reversed from focus ring. Feels weird. But if this is your first lens, it won’t matter. And after a while of only using this lens, it doesn’t matter Neutral - build quality. I think it looks and feels nice. Nowhere near as nice as most Sony Zeiss lenses. Some pros don’t like the plasticky feel. But for my purposes (family photos indoor and outdoor, vacation/travel and just everyday life) it’s top notch. Summary: Excellent all round lens for any amateur or enthusiast so long as you don’t need anything wider or longer. ... show more

  • Current Favorite Lens
Style: Lens Only
I've had this lens for a few months. I got it thinking that I can really take my portraits and photography to the next level. Then, COVID-19 hit and all work slowed down. However, before the pandemic, I was asked to do some senior portraits. I was happy that they still wanted them and we were able to get some quality shots in during the reopening period in June this year. I'm totally satisfied with the way this lens performs. The lens is a beast! This lens quiet, easy to handle, lightweight, and tact sharp. Tamron is knocking it out the park these days with their zoom lenses. I had no issues with lens flare when shooting with the sun and HSS using a softbox. I really like the colors that this lens renders. I shoot in raw, so I tend to do color correction in post. If you are fundamentally sound, cameras and lenses these days are making photography pretty easy. Based on my experience with this lens, I'm going to get the Tamron 70-180. ... show more

  • Best lens I own
Style: Lens Only
I checked all the youtube videos on this lens before making my purchase. I am extremely happy with this lens and plan on getting the 17-28mm once I sell all my canon lenses. I shoot with a Sony A7II and got tired of using Canon lenses with a sigma mc-11 adapters. Some Sony features wouldn't work such Eye AF, even wide metering. The camera would just hunt unless you changed the metering mode to center or flexible spot. So I decided to invest in a quality lens that would allow me to use all Sony feautures but at a affordable price. When I say affordable i mean compared to Sony prices. I own a Sony 28mm f2.8, Rokinon 35mm f2.8 and the canon 24-105mm. I bought the Tamron 28-75mm to replace all those lenses. I am so impressed with the quality of the all pics. I also take portraits and you can see the all of the details on a person skin and clothing. My friends at time ask me to loan them my lens while we are shooting models. They keep saying I need to buy this lens. I like the range that it gives me because I shoot cityscape, street photography and portraits and I can do it all with this lens. no more back pain from carrying multiple lenses and adapters. This is a good investment. to see recent samples of pics taken with the Tamron 28-75mm just visit my instagrams pages below musicman33us - Cityscape, Street photography Portraits: rays_portraits_nyc Thanks ... show more

  • Excellent midrange all-around lens for Sony E-mount
Style: Lens Only
I bought this as a daily driver for my Sony aIII and have been very happy with the image quality as well as the build quality. If you're looking for a reliable, reasonably priced all-around lens that will probably end up staying on your camera most of the time, give this one a try. It would be nice to have this in 1.8 but compared to the price of the G Master that can stop lower, this 2.8 will get you pretty close to the same results at a fraction of the cost. I've also made a lot more use of the 70-75 mm focal lengths than I would have used the 24-28 range in other comparable lenses that range from 24-70 mm. ... show more

  • Amazing Lens for the Price.
Style: Lens Only
The only thing about this lens is its build quality. Don't really like the plastic feel and you can also see the line where the plastic has been molded. It might not be the prettiest lens, but it can take the prettiest photos. This has been my main lens for months now and I have been loving it. If you don't want to spend an arm and a leg for the G Master, this lens is definitely worth the bucks. ... show more
