Features

  • Versatile ultra Telephoto zoom for Sony E-mount full-frame-format mirrorless cameras with a 225-750mm equivalent focal length when used on an APS-C format camera body.
  • VC image stabilization facilitates shooting handheld at the 500mm ultra-telephoto position, with three modes: standard, panning, and framing priority.
  • XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion), LD (Low Dispersion), and GM (Glass-Molded Aspherical) elements greatly reduce color fringing, chromatic aberrations, and image distortion throughout the zoom range for improved clarity and color accuracy.
  • Rotating Arca-type tripod mount with incorporated strap attachment loops.
  • Switches redesigned for improved operability, plus Flex Zoom Lock mechanism to hold zoom position.

Description

The 150-500mm F5-6.7 is TAMRON's first ultra-telephoto zoom lens for full- frame mirrorless cameras that reaches the 500mm focal length and when used on APS-C mirrorless format cameras, the zoom range is an approximate 225-750mm full-frame equivalent. Even when extended to the 500mm telephoto end, the lens is still compact enough for comfortable handheld shooting. This zoom lets users enjoy casual shooting with steady performance and high image quality in the ultra-telephoto realm where conventional wisdom once dictated a tripod. To support handheld shooting in the ultra-telephoto range, the 150-500mm is equipped with VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive), a linear motor focus mechanism that delivers excellent quietness and agile performance, and TAMRON's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism for high-level image stabilization. At the 150mm end, the lens offers an MOD of 23.6” for powerful and dramatic close-ups.

  • Amazing budget lens without the budget quality!
As the title says, this lens is high quality at a fantastic price for what it offers. I've used this to take photos of the moon, the sun, and various pets/wildlife. Tracks VERY well for a 3rd party lens when connected to my Sony a7R V. Pros: Very sharp, generous focal range, compact due to external zooming, stabilization is extremely helpful zoomed all the way in, 82mm filter size, PRICE! Cons: f/6.7 at 500mm can get tricky when lighting conditions dim, quite heavy and the balance on a Sony camera with no battery grip is super front loaded, no teleconverter support or use, external zooms can build up dust and dirt inside the lens over time. If you're looking for a lens for wildlife or just a great telephoto zoom lens, this is easily a fantastic choice. I had a hard decision between this and the Sony 200-600mm lens, and I'm glad I went with the Tamron for the compact size/length over the fully extended internal zoom build of the Sony. ... show more

  • Solid, sharp, yet heavy.
Using with a Sony A6300&A6400. Has been a good experience. Unfortunately I need to get buff in order to handle this lens lol. A bit on the heavy side. Otherwise pretty sharp for my liking. Great build quality. Currently also using for astrophotography and has been pretty fun. Would highly recommend.

  • Fine choice to add extra range to the kit.
An excellent long lens for landscape photography, providing standard tele-zoom range with the extra reach of 500mm. It's compact form factor takes up little additional space over a 70-200 f2.8. Very sharp! Excellent build quality and handling. So nice to have the foot come with Arca compatible grooves eliminating the need for an additional mounting plate. The 82mm filter ring provides compatibility with many filter systems. ... show more

  • Great starter lens for wilflife photo / video
While it's not the sharpest lens, it certainly gets you a new perspective from the 500mm range. I think that this lens is worth it at this price point. I'm sure that with a higher megapixel camera it would really prove worthy. I wish it had a lower f stop but the autofocus does work quite well. It's not too large but I still need something to help me stabilize it, pairs well with a monopod. I took this lens with me to yellowstone and the tetons. It held up on my hikes and wasn't too too heavy of an extra weight on my back. These photos are shot on my sony fx3 - I know it's not meant for photography but while shooting video, sometimes I like to walk away with a photo as well. When it comes to video, the image is okay. It's especially important to stabilize when fully extended while shooting video or you'll get some shakes and micro jitters. Will invest in an even longer lens for filming wildlife as I wasn't able to zoom in as much as I'd like to for most subjects. ... show more

  • Great lens for the price, hard to beat other features like Tamron's 6 year warranty
So far so good, I bought this during the recent Prime day sale, but want to run it through a few paces with my dog (she's the one with the red harness) at the local dog park before making a full review. Only thing I couldn't quite try, was more action shots, but there wasn't anyone else there this morning throwing toys to their dogs. While I typically buy used, in this case between the sale and Tamron's good warranty period vs Sony or Sigma, it swung me towards this, as sample variation is a thing, and worse case, send it in to Tamron for adjustment. Fortunately, this seems like a sharp copy and I don't see the need to send it in for tweaking. First two attachments are at 500 mm, 3rd is at 150 mm, shutter priority on a a7III. Only cons, and it's somewhat unavoidable, is that longer telephotos are a bit heavy, at about 4 pounds for this lens, and between the camera, lens, and battery grip not quite 6.5 pounds. Ideally, use a tripod, but that's not always practical. ... show more

  • Great sports lens!
Why did you pick this product vs others?: Dream lens for sports field photography. Lacrosse mom here and this lens is my new best friend. Whether you can get on to the sideline or are restricted to the stands, this lens produces beautiful images night or day. It is heavy, so a stand/pod is useful, but there’s many a day I still sling it by hand and it’s totally doable. ... show more

  • Sony E-Mount Lens
This is my favorite lens in my collection so far! Got this one for my Sony A7iii and it’s a pretty big lens but looks, feels and performs legit and is great! The only thing is how heavy it is, but obviously thats expected. Overall this lens is awesome!

  • Affordable zoom lens
Although it is an f5 aperture, the quality of the photos are beautiful. I recently used it on my Alaska trip and was not disappointed with the reach and portability of the lens. Great value for what you're getting.
