The light works fine, but the base isn't heavy enough to hold the light in place if you stretch it out much at all. I use the base free standing, not clamped to the table. The problem isn't the light, it's the base. Pretty easy to fix. I got a heavy paperweight and I put it on the base to hold it in place when I stretch out the light. But the paperweight gets in the way sometimes. I wouldn't buy it again, but not for the light, just because to the base. I'm sure it works fine if you're clamping it to a table. ... show more

The 8.5 inch arms are just the right size. Doesn't take up much space on the desk. The Magnifier size is ideal. My only complaint is that the weighted base was rather beat up. Has several good dents in it. Otherwise I love it!

At best it is 2x magnification. It is useful so I am keeping it and at this point I do not require major magnification, but this definitely comes nowhere near 5X. 2X almost seems too generous. It makes things marginally larger at a normal expected distance (subject and your eyes). For the price it works if you need what you're working on to be a bit clearer, a little larger, and the light is really great. Adjustments are kind of crap - it doesnt have a great range of motion but its functional. The base is a joke. It is too light to hold the arm. It will tip over if you bend it to more than 30-45 degree angle from base. So you will more than likely need to clamp it to your desk. Problem is my work desk doesn't have a very deep edge. So I put it on the base and clamped the base as much as possible to the clamp. It is super classy. It would be a pain to add another errand to return it so I am just keeping it but will probably soon get something better. If you don't mind not getting 5X (1.5-3X max) then this is fine. The light is good and if you don't need to move it much, then its for you. ... show more

Feels cheap, but that wasn't even the issue. The desk-top stand isn't heavy enough to keep the lens/light from tipping over if you move it even barely off center, making it useless. I suspect the clamp would work fine but the whole thing feels cheap so it's going back.

I like the LED features. The brightness control works as advertised. The different colors are a nice, useful feature. The magnifier is good and clear; mostly distortion free. The free standing base is useless. It doesn't have enough mass to hold the lamp.

Base of the lamp came in with four dents in it. I'm not sure what two of the buttons are for as it did not come with any instructions or directions. Other than that the lamp seems fine. I can turn the light on and off and change the color, it does swivel and flex well.
