Can't put away right away... unless you douse with water (not recommended). The instructions are nearly worthless. They only explain how to light a fire. It gives no instruction how to assemble. So I'll tell you. First open out the feet. Once standing on a flat none flammable surface notice the inside ridge. Push what looks like a small pot lid (with a ring on top) all the way down to rest on the ridge. Now you place a few handfuls of what you plan to burn. Light it up. Rest collar as show on top. Be aware that for this to work it must be able to breath. If / when it gets too full of ash the fire pit (stove) will begin to smoke more. It cannot be handled easily while hot. TIP: To make washing easier, spread liquid dish soap on the interior surfaces and around the holes before using. This does give off lots of heat and will melt Formica table tops. This is not good for use inside home or camping tents. All fires emit smoke. This only disperses the smoke is such a way that it's difficult to see.

While I don't have a Solostove Mesa to compare this too, I do however have an older Campfire. What I love about these small firepit units is their portability and novelty. What I don't like is how inefficient they are. They take up a lot of fuel so stock up on small pieces of wood or pellets. What I do like about this unit is that it takes pellets, which my Campfire cannot do. I think pellets are actually more efficient than small pieces of wood. With all that said, this is great of your backyard, especially if you have little kids. Smores are always a hit with these things.

We've been having a blast with out little firepit. It works just like it's big brother, especially once you get the fire established. The finish is very nice - no burrs, clean lines, and tough build. This feels like it will be around for quite some time. We like the little feet that flip down to offer more stability and keep it elevated off whatever surface you have it on. It takes a little bit to get a fire started but you get the hang of it quickly. Plus you don't have to wait around for hours to let a fire burn down if the kiddos just want a round or three of s'mores!

I like these little table fire pits. They’re great for sitting out back with my wife and having drinks. They don’t require a lot of tending, they’re small enough to sit in a little table, and they don’t burn forever. This one is easy to unpack and easy to store away. Ideal for 2 people!

This is a fun and unique concept, and I'm excited to use it on our deck through the year AND take it on camping trips for a small and easy fireplace option. I appreciate that it came with a carry-bag (though I do have to say the bag is sort of plastic-y and not the best quality). The firepit itself is good quality. It is a small size, as advertised, but not too tiny to be useful as a heat source, cooking source, and fun ambience-maker. I really appreciated the instructions included. They were clear, with common-sense reminders and some good tips and suggestions for use. Very helpful. This was a great purchase--highly recommend.

When I first unboxed this thing, my first thought was "What is this, a fire pit for ants!?" It's so small you can't help but think it's just a novelty. Then I lit it up. It does actually emit a useful amount of heat. The ash tray sits relatively high in the pit so it's effective at keeping heat away from the table surface. For my use I found the best fuel is smoking wood, not the chips, but the chunks. That produced the most efficient heat I found. It does burn through fuel pretty quick, so be prepared to keep feeding this thing. For the cost, this is one of those must-haves for camping or outdoor hangout areas.
