We moved into this house 3 years ago, and realized we have a light above our garage on one switch (switch inside the garage) and our front door light on another switch. Let's be honest, there is zero way I'd remember to turn the light on and off every day. So we left it on all the time, which made us look stupid and wasted electricity. Maybe I'm the last one to figure out bulbs like this exist, but I wish I'd know this 3 years ago. I'm very pleased how these work. They come on, on their own based upon when they sense the light levels to be low enough. The two of them tend to come on within seconds of one another. Pretty neat. I'm hoping they'll hold up over time, but honestly even if I had to buy two new ones every year I would do it. (Also just a heads up, when I was reading the product info and the box of the bulb, I felt like some things made it sound misleading as if these are motion activated. That is not the case. Just activated based on light. And don't be shocked if you test it Indoors - it won't work if you just try it in a room and turn the lights on and off.     • This super-low-priced bulb instantly fixed a big problem that I've had for years.

At my home I have an outdoors light fixture that is a "Dusk to Dawn" fixture, but the bulbs in it stay on 24/7. For some reason the built in sensor in this one needs far more light (much more than my other fixtures) to turn the bulbs off during daytime, than the light that it is getting right underneath my roof awning. I think that this fixture has a defective, or just a very cheap sensor built into it. No easy fix since I had to pay someone over a year ago around $50 to install it. Now I could pay someone again to move it down much lower, (where it would be totally exposed to rain and other things) where it still may not work properly, or have it completely removed and replaced, with another fixture that also may not work properly. Now that's around another $100 for the new fixture and labor, with absolutely no guarantee that it (the "Dusk to Dawn" feature) will work properly. So what the heck I thought, spending $8 (taking a chance on this bulb) instead of spending around $100 dollars to have the complete fixture taken down and replaced. And guess what? This inexpensive bulb fixed my problem like a charm. The sensor in this bulb is perfectly set in my opinion, not to come on too early, or stay on much longer (after daylight) than needed. I was so impressed I instantly ordered an extra one. Yeah... I'm a big spender! =^) PS. I like to also say that I really love and appreciate Amazon's 30 day free return policy, because sometimes (way too much to be perfectly honest) I over-shop out of boredom, or fear of not having, but possibly one day needing a certain item, and then several days later (sometimes) totally regretting that purchase. Amazon has not given me any hassle for my many returns (mostly made just recently) so far. I got way too caught up in Amazon's recent big yearly sale. =^( Thank you Amazon. =^) ... show more

These are the only dusk-to-dawn LED bulbs I could find that are from a manufacturer with a name I recognize. I put one in my front porch light and it automatically turns on at dusk and off at dawn, as advertised. It's energy efficient, drawing only nine watts, and it's super bright. Because it puts out a bluish white light, it appears brighter than it actually is. It doesn't do much for ambience, but there are no shadows to hide in around my front door. I cannot really speak to the bulb's longevity, since I've only had it in place for about a month, but it does come with a five-year warranty. ... show more

The day/night sensor, red dot on buib, needs to have access to normal light levels. Keep the sensor pointed to the normal light source. My light fixture has frosted glass and I was concerned it would not work. But it does light up at night anyway and is perfect for a porch light. Bright enough for security but not bright enough to bother the neighbors. Highly recommend.
