I purchased these two years ago and decided that I can truly give an honest review after all of this time. I initially purchased these because there is little on the market to retrofit to a horizontal blind kit and I wanted to automate my blinds to open and close at daylight/dusk. These not only fit the cost effectiveness requirement, but I had heard about this company from their automated physical switch so I knew that they weren't strangers to this space. SmarthomeSolver on Youtube talked highly about them so I found myself already watching this company. The product itself is very well built and feels like it is made to last and the package includes everything you will need to install them with ease and I personally thought that the instructions and process was simple and easy to follow. They are slim and they also blend in very nicely as well. Since I needed multiples, I purchased the ones with solar panels and wound up with 9 total motors for 9 windows. The app itself is simple and nicely designed and it makes setting up and operating it easy. I linked everything to a schedule within the app and everything just works. I also set it up with geo services to allow it to sense when I come and go and open and close my blinds without any additional effort when I'm leaving and comping back. I also was easily able to link these to both Google and Alexa and use them interchangeably within my smart home network. Hubs have improved immensely and have made everything even faster to operate and I installed one on each floor of my home. They automatically link to the hubs now too so there isn't any setup there that I noticed when adding new devices recently. All in all, these have been opening and closing my blinds in my house every single day at minimum 2 operations per day and they have required little to no effort or maintenance. The one South facing window that I have with a solar panel in it has only required a charge once in two years as it consistently gets enough sun to counter its use. The rest of my windows are North facing and don't get much sun. I tried the panels in one device and overall, I don't recommend them if your windows are similar fashion. The app requires a certain sun level to charge which seems to not be very effective in indirect light. However, I do have to charge this one less than the others so there is enough to charge it some. Its also difficult to get behind the blind topper to unplug the panel and plug it in to charge so I just leave them off. Typically, they only need charging twice a year to date for me. The one time I had an issue with the app, I reached out to Customer Service for Switchbot and not only did they reply rather quickly but the app was fixed too. It blew my mind at how responsive they were. I haven't had any issues since and it was more of a display issue than a failure or issue with the servi e or device. Overall, after the blind devices, I've purchased hubs and plugs and was given a water leak sensor and everything has the same longevity and durability and I am quite pleased. I highly recommend these devices and highly recommend you check out their other products too for smart home solutions because they have been absolute workhorses for me.

I’ve installed four of these SwitchBot Blind Tilts in my home — purchased a three-pack and a one-pack — and couldn’t be happier with them. The one-pack I purchased was a ‘kit,’ also containing Switchbot’s “Hub Mini,” which is a necessary addition if you want to control these via your smart home controller — Alexa / Google Home / so forth. Mine are controlled through Amazon Echos via Alexa routines. Installation instructions are clearly written and the necessary bits and jigs to insure correct alignment are included with each blind tilt in the form of cardboard templates with adhesive. You align the cardboard template with your tilt wand, attach it to your blind’s headrail with the template’s adhesive pads, and it shows you precisely where to attach the wand clamp and the motor mount for a correct fit. At first, opening the package, installation looks daunting, but it’s really quite simple. Just read through the instructions and you won’t have any problems. Others have mentioned trouble keeping these units charged. I haven’t experienced any problems, and all four of my blind tilt units are on a north-facing wall. It’s true that the solar panel doesn’t keep their batteries at 100%, but this is to be expected when the panels are facing north and get zero direct sun. When I first installed these I installed the solar chargers on three but did not install the solar charger on the fourth. After a month, the three with the chargers were at 78% battery, the one without was at 58%. So even facing north, the solar chargers provide a small charge, helping to keep the batteries up. I charged these unit’s batteries to 100% prior to installing them and own a supplemental battery for my iPhone. It’s a simple matter to unplug the solar panel’s USB-C connector from the unit and plug the battery in to top off the blind tilt’s battery. Would it be better if the solar panels did all the work? Of course. But there will always be these minor issues with any tech, and honestly, this is so minor it’s inconsequential. My ONE problem with SwitchBot Blind Tilt was with the unit’s bright whiteness. I have mahogany blinds in my living room and honey maple blinds in my bath. The white motor and wand clamp stood out and not in a good way. I’ve painted mine with solid color deck stain to closely match the blinds and now I don’t even see them. If you want to paint yours, prior to painting tape up the wand clamp and the bottom of the motor unit. The wand clamp contains a latch-release with very close tolerances. Any primer or paint in that latch will make it unworkable. Learn from my mistake — I spent about an hour with an x-acto knife trying to surgically scrape off primer to get the latch operable again. Just tape the clamp portion and leave it white. The bottom of the motor unit contains a button you press to connect the unit to your network. This also needs to remain unpainted, so tape that too before priming. The attached video shows these two areas. Start with a bonding primer and follow-up with the paint or stain color of your choice. Home Depot sells “sample size” deck stains quite inexpensively. Stop by and pick up a deck stain color sheet, take it home and match your blind color with that sheet, return to Home Depot and pick up your sample size can of stain. I used solid-color deck stain, but any paint or stain will work. One final note: Alexa only has the ability to close the SwitchBot Blind Tilt with slats facing DOWN. This was unsuitable to me. Here’s a simple fix: in your final installation step — the calibration of the unit — when the app instructs you to fully open the blinds DOWN, fully open them UP. And when it instructs you to fully open them UP, fully open them DOWN. Alexa will now close your blind slats in the UP position and you are indisputably the master of your domain. I have mine opening at sunrise and closing at sunset every day through Alexa routines. I couldn’t be happier. For the price, these bring automation to existing blinds very cost-effectively. Go for it!

It is a bit pricy, but cheaper than other automatic blind options. Easy to install after reading all the instructions or even if you don't read the instructions it is very intuitive what to do. As far as function, they are working great the battery seems to last a long time, but if you use many automatizations during the day the battery may last less, but the solar charger helps to charge when exposed to enough sunlight. I'm really glad I purchased these items. Initially, I purchased 12 tilters 4 hubs and 4 buttons, but I need to order another two more tilters. Now What I don't like from them is hat they don't open and close in a synchronize mode, or sometimes one remain either close or open, so I need to push the switch twice to activate the one or two missing tilters. The other thing that I don't like is that there is not a push and hold switch that allows to open or close as long as you keep it pushed. Per my talk with the developers they are considering this option, so I really appreciate if they make a switch with this functionality. All in all, I think this is something that everyone should have it if you don't want to open and close manually the blinds, like in my case I have 12 blinds that I open and close every day. Now they are set and I have different scenes during the day depending on the time of the day they close or open more to get more sunlight.

This actually does what it’s supposed to. I was hesitant because I was u sure if this was really what I thought it was and would actually work. I didn’t think a product existed to do what I wanted like this in an affordable option. I thought the only way I would get an actual motorized, automatic blind system without buying expensive blind system from a window company. Well, this does that. Installation was easier than it initially seemed and once you do one and know what to do, additional ones are super easy and quick. Features and options are solid. You can set timers, programs, and adjust directions. For my purposes, I set it and let it go from there, but you can also use the app to operate it. It isn’t totally silent, but I don’t find it particularly obtrusive in sound or volume and it does take up some space, so it’s not unnoticeable, but it blends well enough. Great product to turn any existing blind into an automatic system without having to get expensive new blinds.

I have these installed on three window shades. After some adjustment on initial set up, they work perfectly all day running on their unique programming. It’s nice to have the shades move based on the amount of light that comes into the room and close at night at a specific time when we need them to. I would buy again and recommend the seller

The blinds work incredibly well especially when paired with a smart home speaker via the hub or hub mini. This is a much cheaper and overall better alternative to $500+ smart blinds. Didn’t think this would be such a quality of life improvement to my daily routine! I originally bought this as a new toy for me to tinker with, but honestly having the ability to programmatically set my blinds to open and allow me to wake up to natural light vs an alarm clock has really made me wake up feeling sharper! I have 3 windows in my master bedroom; I found the first window a bit challenging to install, specifically getting the latch to fasten. However, once I got the first one figured out and working, I was able to install the other two window with a few minutes a piece. I was skeptical of the solar power charging, however the charging works quite well - with all 3 of my tilts with more charge than when I installed them 3 weeks ago. Highly recommend, so much that I bought 2 more 3 packs!

update: after being reached out to by the company and asking what they could do to help, they promised to send an newer better hub, but didn't, then they said they were going to give me a full refund, but quickly back tracked on that offer, then when they kept asking for my personal information, which is against Amazon policy they accused me of not wanting to help them solve the problems. Here what I found with my extensive testing. You will need a hub for every room, the hub needs to be in direct line of sight to work effectively. The stated specifications of the hub are all wrong. I couldn't figure out why I found very few reviews about this obvious limitation, but then realized they reach out to all people who give them bad reviews and basically bribed them. So if you are going to only have one or two devices, then this will work, or just buy a hub for every room in your house. Original: The device works really well when it receives a signal. It's fairly quiet, or at least much quieter than what I expected. Really easy to install after the first one, the instructions are a little bit confusing at times. With the new firmware update, blinds can be grouped which is fantastic, because they don't receive the signal from the hub very well, which would cause all sorts of issues, if planning on using any of the 3rd party systems like Alexa or Google. More than 50 percent of the time the device will fail to communicate with the hub properly when the hub is not directly in the line of sight of the device. I purchased quite a few of these based on reviews and product description. One stark example of how unreliable the hub is, I have a group in the living room and one in my kitchen which is separated by one wall. The hub is directly against the wall in the living room, so it works fine with the living room group of 3 devices, but in the kitchen, is hit or miss. The hub states 80 meters in range, but this is far from the truth. If this were true I would only need one hub for my entire house, or at the most, one hub on each floor. No, this is not the case you need one hub for every room the devices are in to have reliable communications. So, keep that in mind, you will have to add 40 dollars for each room, plus a way to plug in each hub. If you're just going to add one or two devices these are probably okay, but if you plan on doing your whole house, or living areas, maybe go with a more reliable product. Be prepared to by a hub for each room that the blinds are in.
