  • Excellent customer support. Device may work well or not, depending on your blinds.
TL;DR: Customer support is excellent. Make sure to update firmware to v2.0 to 1) create groups of up to 4 devices and 2) get better solar charging. If your blind tilt mechanism seems to get stiff every 1/2 or full turn when the tilt rod is operated fully vertical, be careful as the device might struggle. Read on for details. First, the initial bad experience: I purchased one of these along with a SwitchBot Remote to be able to control my 2 office blinds at the same time. It didn't work because I wasn't able to create a group of devices as the feature wasn't implemented, so I ended up having to purchase a Mini Hub to create a scene and assign the scenes to the remote buttons. I left a review in the Remote product page stating that the fact that it can only control a single action for a single device for each button should've been clear from the start. Customer support reaches out Stella, from SwitchBot customer support, reached out and sent me a guide explaining how to assign multiple device actions to a single button. The guide she sent wasn't really helpful, but through that I was able to find another guide that stated I needed to upgrade to firmware 2.0 in order to enable the group function, and that (at the time) had to be requested to SwitchBot support). I took the opportunity to provide some more feedback related to other issues, and they were very interested in getting more information. The exchange was really helpful. Solar charging With the firmware I had at the time (v1.2), solar charging reached a maximum of level 5 for any of my blinds, which are not exposed to direct sunlight, but do get a lot of natural light regardless. The device will not fully replenish the battery below level 6 lighting, although it will extend the battery life anyways - this was explained to me quite thoroughly by customer support, which was very good. Comes firmware v2.0 I got the prompt to update to v2.0 today, and I immediately noticed that the lighting level was way higher for all my blinds (they did mention some changes they were making to their algorithm in an email they sent me), so now they're all above level 6. The group feature is also available, so one can create a group of up to 4 blinds to be operated all at the same time, so getting a Remote is also worth it. Tilt hook issues The only pending issue I have is related to the format of my tilt hooks (the hook at the end of the tilt wand that connects to the tilting mechanism). When operated fully vertical, like the device does, they'll get really stiff every 1/2 or full turn. This has nothing to do with the SwitchBot device, to be clear. But it might prevent it from operating properly nevertheless. I'm still looking for a solution, and I think that this product might work: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YG3625O/ Either this or somehow making the hook a bit flatter at the top, to avoid it from getting stuck. It's an issue related to how torque is transmitted from the rod to the tilting mechanism when operated vertically, which puts them both at an angle from each other. Bottom line: I recommend you manually operate your tilt rod vertically to see if it tends to jam every 1/2 or full turn. If that happens, perhaps try getting the adapter I mentioned above or replacing your tilt rod before attempting to install this device, as it'll avoid frustration. Customer support is excellent, so you got that working in your favor. ... show more

  • Clever design made installation fairly easy and product performs great!
Took me about 45 minutes to install since I went step by step very carefully so as not to mess up. If I purchase additional Blind Tilts the installation will probably take only 10 minutes. The product performs exactly as described. It changes the blind angles fairly slowly but speed really isn't needed anyway and slower movement will hopefully translate to longer trouble free lifespan. Initially I hooked up the supplied solar panel but the Blind Tilt didn't recognize it. I did some research and theorized that the Blind Tilt firmware was at version 1.2 while the latest version 2.0 was needed to support the solar panel and associated light sensor. I could not find anyway to upgrade the firmware so I submitted a support request to Wonderlabs. The very next morning I discovered that there was a firmware upgrade awaiting installation into my Blind Tilt. I went through the upgrade and now the solar panel is charging the unit (when there's bright enough sunlight). Overall the Blind Tilt is working great! Discovering that the firmware was out of date was disappointing but Wonderlabs took care of that literally overnight. I've set the unit up to automatically open every morning and close every evening so I'll see over the next few weeks if it performs reliably and also if the solar panel keeps the unit charged. I've added the Alexa integration and that also works great. I've mounted it to a six foot wide by five foot high window blind that is about four years old. The Blind Tilt gear motor did not seem to be "laboring" at all when it went from down close to up close, so I think it could handle even larger blinds if it needed to. A note about the process of mounting the solar panel to your window via the self adhesive pad. I cleaned the glass with the supplied alcohol wipe then peeled the backing off of the self adhesive strip and began to position the panel towards the top of the window. I inadvertently slightly touched the pad to the glass while moving the panel into position and it stuck instantly and I couldn't pull it back off (without risking damage) so the solar panel is mounted at an angle a few inches from where I panned to place it. Oh well!!! :) So use some extra care when you reach this step. If it survives my "trial" period I will probably purchase several more since I have the same Horizontal Blinds on every window in my house! It's appears to be a well designed, sturdy product that is providing a lot for it's relatively low price. I will update if things change! ... show more

  • Surprisingly good
I have purchased a decent amount of smart home products over the years. Some are about efficiency, and some about laziness. I bought the Blind Tilt because of a little of both. Where I live, we have nosy neighbors, two young girls still learning modesty. My wife tends to forget to close the blinds which rest between the inner and outer windows. This has made it so perfect to just open and close the window without problems. I have it set through Alexa to open and close automatically at the correct times, and close when the glare hits our TV just right. Paired with the hub mini (the ir blaster it it rocks), this simple purchase saved a lot of annoyance. If you are wondering if you should, the answer is yes. A solar panel is included to charge it, and the app is simple to set up, and control. My tech adverse wife loves the automation and lack of extra steps. I plan on looking for more tech from SwitchBot in the future, and I recommend you seriously consider it too. ... show more

  • A pleasant surprise
A lot of “smart home” devices promise the moon but often barely get off the ground. I was dubious, but I’m too often taken in by high hopes and optimism. In this case, i was pleasantly surprised. Installation was well documented and straightforward (and I’m not blessed with a lot of DIY skills). Better yet, the hub 2 talks matter, so it integrates into my HomeKit setup. So far, it’s working flawlessly, and it’s so quiet that i have to look to know it’s working. I bought one to try it out, but i plan to add several more. ... show more
