Description

An Incomparable Bass Experience An unrelenting passion for awesome bass performance and engineering perfection guided every aspect of the PB16-Ultra subwoofers design. Groundbreaking technology rigorous design and extreme testing in real world and laboratory environments allowed SVS to achieve unmatched low frequency extension and output capabilities all while keeping it amazingly detailed and articulate. Massive New 16" SVS Ultra Driver with Unprecedented 8" Edge Wound Voice Coil When designing the biggest and most formidable driver ever used in an SVS subwoofer it was of utmost importance to meet or exceed the same supreme standards of control and accuracy as every other subwoofer SVS manufactures. One huge advancement that allows the PB16-Ultra to handle the crushing force of a 16 driver is the 8 edge wound voice coil the largest ever deployed in a consumer subwoofer. This innovation ensures ultra-low distortion and pinpoint control at the highest drive levels resulting in incredible output and low frequency extension. By nature larger drivers are more difficult to control but the unprecedented voice coil design ensures accuracy in frequency response and speed in transients without ever sounding boomy. Pushing the driver are four massive dedicated toroidal ferrite magnets that unleash a staggering 95mm peak to peak Xmech excursion (82mm Xmax) and the highest levels of motor force and palpable SPLs. The light and rigid 16 Ultra driver cone consists of a premium fiberglass resin composite with optimal stiffness to mass ratio to maximize movement of air and sonic energy without ever distorting or losing control. Stunningly Powerful New Sledge Amplifier with Fully Discrete MOSFET Output Conservatively rated at 1500 watts continuous 5000+ watts peak power the PB16-Ultra Sledge STA-1500D amplifiers 64 Amp 200-Volt MOSFETs are the sonic muscle behind arguably the most powerful and highest fidelity subwoofer amplifier ever developed. • Amazing sound quality
As far as home theater subs are concerned, this is the baddest on the block for the money. Amazingly rich low tones without a hint of distortion or break up. Beautiful finish and styling rounds it out and makes for a superb piece of furniture. Looks better than the pictures.

  • My goal was 16Hz, and this fulfills! I love the metal grill!
This has clean and clear, distortion-free bass to the low C of a pipe organ (16Hz) and lower! That 2-star reviewer complaining about port noise has something wrong with his system. I have 4 of these, and they produce the cleanest, lowest bass I've ever experienced. Port noise is definitely not an issue. Before I got these, I toyed around with the idea of DIY with the Peerless Typhany 15" driver but there was no way I was going to make it look this good, which is also why I chose it over other brands like Rhythmik and JTR. Also, back then, Monoprice hadn't introduced their 16" sub yet but after the stories I've heard about their customer service, I'm glad I chose SVS. I've needed help from SVS, and they go above and beyond. Also, Monoprice doesn't have Bluetooth app control. The app is very useful because you can adjust a 3-band parametric EQ, and you can stack the bands too for extra boost. The only thing I wish was that the center frequency would go lower than 20 to maybe 16Hz at least. But for now it's ok because I have a parametric EQ that goes down to 10Hz. Which brings me to another point. You'll begin to chase 10Hz once you experience this, and to that I say, enough for now because I only have one song that goes that low (Curtain Shaker), and I'm ok with that compromise. But back to the app. I wish SVS would make it so that I can adjust 4 or more subs at the same time instead of having to switch from one to another. If I have to change the level, I have to go to each sub and adjust the level. Anyway, I really like this sub, and the only way I think it can be improved is if they offered an ultra low frequency version with a slightly larger enclosure with a lower port tuning so that it begins to roll off at something like 10Hz. Oh, and I just love the metal grill! I wish SVS would use them on all their subs. I'm beginning to see cloth grills on their newer models, which is unfortunate. ... show more

  • It’s worth it!
The only bad experience so far was the delivery. I had this scheduled to be delivered on a Saturday and it started raining ten minutes before they called to let me know they were nearby. It was pouring! They covered my new $2600 sub with a loose sheet of plastic they had laying in the the truck—just draped on the top and the rain is coming down sideways. The whole time this is happening the truck door is open to the rain and the box is getting wet. Not only is the box wet, it’s got a big hole in it from being gouged by something. In fact the box is looking very beat up. Anyway, they cart it up the drive and into the garage where I’m waiting. “Don’t worry, it’s double boxed!” That’s what they said. I sign that it’s delivered and off they go soaking wet. After they leave I grab some towels and start drying the behemoth off. It’s soaked; the box is ripped and falling apart. I can see plastic wrapping through the holes so I’m hoping it’s ok. I get the box dragged through the garage and into the house alone...it’s only 175+lbs right? Oh yeah, it needs to go up a flight of stairs to the theater so take a break for a second...oh right, I’m alone on this part too. I get the box upstairs before it disintegrates and into the theater. After that, it pretty much unpacks itself thanks to being delivered in the rain. I’m a little annoyed at this point—I keep my boxes for speakers and gear and this one is destroyed. Good news though, even though it wasn’t double boxed, the plastic wrap kept it dry! Just a thought, but maybe the drivers could have waited ten minutes for the storm to blow over?! I set it up and played Attack if the Clones; the Jango asteroid chase...OMG! This mini-fridge-on-its-side-sub is a weapon of acoustic murder! It’s huge! Black, piano gloss! Sexy! When this thing starts pounding you might want to look out for Sandworms—mmmm, Shai Hulud! ... show more

  • Sounds good
Sounds great but I wouldn't pay 3000 thousand dollars again. It's overpriced in my opinion

  • Great all around sub.
Great all around sub. Good with music, movies, and gaming. Very clear even at high volumes. I ordered a second one due to a dead spot right where i sit. One will work in most rooms. Worth every penny. Hard to get in the house with just one person. The packaging is top notch and allows you to roll the box end over end with no damage to the sub. The speaker is surrounded by 2" of quality foam all around. Enjoy! ... show more

  • Your own in home earthquake, yet it can be a gentile Giant.
I have one of these in my home theater. I actually threw my back out moving it. I have a saying: "When I listen to my home theater and my SVS 16-Ultra, so do my neighbors." Anyone sad they bought it? If so,PM me. Lot's of my friends will take it off your hands. :)

  • Best subwoofer ever
The subwoofers offer crisp thumping bass. They handle the most bass demanding movies easily. You’ll heard sounds in a movie you’ve never heard before. It can be like watching the movie for the first time. I am truly impressed by the sharpness of the bass. They are large and can be quite imposing.
