Five stars given based completely on my first impression. The first thing I noticed was the construction. This eyepiece feels solid. I love how smooth the twist is when zooming, causing no wobble to my view when adjusting mag. The eye relief is fantastic. I got this specifically to replace an 8-24 zoom that I keep on a simple 90mm f11 achro. I find this 10-30 zoom to be a little more relaxed and a better fit for most of my general observation use with this particular scope. My 90 f11 has become my lazy scope; I keep it ready to grab on a sturdy fluid pan with a zoom eyepiece loaded, and, surprisingly, this beast long scope is very light and portable. I bring this up because an f11 is a "looking through a straw" type of scope. Therefore, I'm not particularly concerned about the relatively narrow fov this eyepiece affords since I only use it on my f11. Back to my first impression, though, besides construction, the reason I'm giving this a five star rating: The first object I looked at through this eyepiece was an early am Saturn. I had never before seen Saturn so crystal sharp in that scope. I didn't even know that my 90 f11 was capable of such a fine view. General seeing that morning probably had more to do with it than the eyepiece, but the eyepiece could easily handle that better seeing. I got the SVBONY SV170 Telescope Zoom Eyepiece, at a fantastic price. I have used it and the zoom lens works as advertised . I recommend it for it simplicity of use and it's great views.

    • SV bony is quickly becoming the best value in low priced optics.
These were my second set of SV bony optics and I have been blown away with the quality. I also have the set of 68 degree UW eyepieces. The 10-30mm Zoom eyepieces are well built and the optics are sharp. I have not been able to get out to use them due to inclement weather but I am sure they will be satisfactory and that is the only reason I rated them at 4 stars and not 5. I bought these to use in my Celestron Bino viewer. The weight of the bino viewer with the two zoom eyepieces is just under 3 lbs. so that is also something to be considered. I will use them with my 8" dob so after the initial set up trial run, the weight does not seem to be a problem. This seemed to be the logical answer due to the low price and the fact that I need two eyepieces with a stereo viewer. I definitely would buy these again. ... show more

This eyepiece offers multiple options to use when scoping the light sky. I was able to have a very great picture of our moon, able to see Saturn, and plenty of stars. I recommend this product to beginners & all.

A good zoom eyepiece for the price. As with any zoom optic, it is always a compromise of quality vs. convenience and this is no exception. However, it is vey handy for casual viewing. As with all the other Svbony products I have purchased, I have been very pleased with the quality and overall value. If your budget is tight and you want to cover a range of eyepieces, I have no reservations recommending this guy right here. ... show more

    • Excellent optics / Easy to use
This is now my most used eyepiece. At 30mm objects are easy to find, then zooming up to 10mm works smoothly and as well as my 10mm - all while not having to change eyepieces.

    • Meh eyepiece.
Eyepiece works on range promised, but eye relief is mediocre, as well as clarity at higher magnifications. Field of view also mediocre. Overall a cheap variable eypiece best suited for a cheap scope when fewer parts are desired.
