Description

The Earth’s Moon is the most popular object to observe with a telescope. It’s an obvious target that’s easy to locate and full of exciting geographical features to explore. The Celestron neutral density filter enhances lunar viewing by cutting the Moon’s bright glare by 87%, improving contrast and making faint details easier to observe. Most amateur astronomers keep a Moon filter on hand as an essential part of their observing kit because it provides a more comfortable view and reduces eye fatigue. This filter does not alter the color of the object you’re observing, making it a great choice for astroimaging, especially when imaging the surface of the Moon. But a neutral density filter isn’t just for the Moon; it also boosts contrasts when viewing deep-sky objects from light polluted areas. And for terrestrial observers, this filter reduces brightness when viewing land-based targets around sand and snow. The Celestron neutral density filter simply screws onto the insert barrel of most 1.25” eyepieces and can stack with other 1.25” filters.

  • Nice moon lens kit that won’t break the bank Nice moon lens kit that won’t break the bank
Style: Moon Filter Set, 1.25"
This review is for the Celestron Moon Filter Kit. The kit includes 4 filters, ND96-0.9, ND96-0.6, ND96-0.3 and a Moon and Skyglow filter that is actually beneficial while looking at planets as well as the moon while viewing in an urban environment where light pollution is an issue. The filters are well made and the threads are cut well for easy installation on any 1.25 lens. I found the focusing to be sharp and clear. The case is accessible by turning the clear lid clockwise or counter clockwise to open or close the container. The moon chart is more novel than packed with information. Nonetheless, it is a helpful guide for those just starting out and servers a duel purpose by protecting the lenses while not in use. I believe this lens kit is an excellent value for the money, and would recommend it for beginners to intermediate users. Those who are more on the serious side of astrophotography should look for something that would be of a higher quality optics. However I’ve attached a picture taken with my iPhone using the ND96-0.6 lens and was very impressed with the results. Overall it’s hard to beat this kit for the quality and the price. ... show more

  • It works as advertised.
Style: Variable Polarizer, 1.25"
I like how how you can quickly adjust the filter strength. It does unscrew in to 2 halves, so you can 1/2 on a barlow and the half on the eye piece. The quality is good, smooth adjustment it doesn't feel gritty. The threads are well machined and we'll built.

  • Surprisingly well made
Style: Variable Polarizer, 1.25"
These filters are very nice, a must for moon viewing. Usually less expensive celestron stuff is pretty cheaply made, but surprisingly, this variable polarized filter works well.

  • Great range of attenuation
Style: Variable Polarizer, 1.25"
This was a great addition to my kit for public outreach astronomy. I have the fixed Celestron Moon filter as well but that only attenuates the light by about 17% and that is not enough with a bright moon. The variable filter allows me to adjust attenuation from dusk to darkness and keep the Moon brightness at a comfortable level. ... show more

  • I use these every time for viewing planets and other bright objects.
Style: Lunar and Planetary Filter Set, 1.25"
I bought this set because it was cheap and included the basics. I couldn't have imagined how useful four filters would be. HOW TO USE: Basically, choose the filter which is the color the object you're viewing is not. So if you're looking at Mars, use a blue filter; if you're looking at the Moon, use the gray filter; et cetera. You can also stack filters, because they not only thread into the telescope but to each other as well. I sometimes use two filters for exceptionally bright objects. Especially very bright objects such as Jupiter look so much better if you use a filter. You can really see the details. And for exceptionally bright objects like the Moon, it makes viewing not only more pleasant in terms of detail but because the Moon is so intensely bright it's very difficult to see it through a telescope without a filter. It can be very hard to tell which filter is which in the dark, so I suggest you mark the case somehow that can tell you the difference when seen under a red light. ... show more

  • Working as expected
Style: Variable Polarizer, 1.25"
Works nicely, eases viewing of the moon. Only drawback is that it is placed inside the telescope so changing the polarization requires disassembly of the eyepiece. In addition - if the telescope remains assembled - you may forget the filter inside --> might take time to understand why deep sky objects are not visible - but this was my fault, not the filter... ... show more

  • Cuts the glare just enough
Style: Neutral Density Filter, 1.25"
It does the job! Cuts the glare, but with a big full moon it will still be a bit bright. Just keep that in mind and alternate eyes it you want to view fainter objects the same night. Install is a cinch (just screw on). Good product!

  • Worth the money! Worth the money!
Style: Neutral Density Filter, 1.25"
Bought this filter to block out all the unnecessary light to the eye and so you can see craters more defined and it works so well! Very easy to install and quick results.
