I’ve been crocheting for over 60 years and have used many brands and types of hooks. I prefer the deeper throat and in-line hook of the Susan Bates hook to the curved throat and rounded hook of others. The deeper notch in the throat helps my yarn stay on the hook. Also the Susan Bates hook is straight rather than tapered where the throat joins the handle. This helps keep my stitches even. This is the first set I have owned with a cushioned grip. It does make a difference with my arthritis. My collection of hooks includes hand-made wooden and bone handmade hooks predating the Civil War, but the Susan Bates hooks are still the easiest for me to use with yarn. (For thread, nothing beats my great-great grandmothers silver plated set.) ... show more

Upcheck: Big fan of Bates hooks - the hook type I learned on decades ago. The comfort grip is a noticeable improvement and I'm glad I can get many sizes with it to fill out my collection. Downcheck: Chose this specific set (4/5/5.5/6/6.5) to fill gaps in my collection and because I was particularly looking for a 4mm for a project. For some reason, though, it came WITH a 4.5mm and WITHOUT a 4mm. Keeping it because, well - I still need a 4.5mm... but definitely disappointed to not get the 4mm I expected. 1 star down for the weird hook, but otherwise happy - great price for the number, type, and size. Excellent hook for a value price! Doesn’t split the yarn, longer shaft, and smoothly machined. I have to say I like it as much as the tulip or clover hooks.

I love these inline crochet hooks! They’re excellent for use with acrylic yarn and the pointy tip aids in getting into the next stitch without the yarn splitting. As a new crocheter I’m learning that there’s certain hooks that help with different yarns. Pro tip: Learn that early on and it’ll help you succeed as a beginner crocheter. Wish I was taught that from the start. Also, the body and neck of the hooks are the same size helping with your tension by keeping the stitch hole the same size consistently. Very smooth. Only thing I wish these hooks had and that’s thicker ergonomic handles. They are on the thin side. Other than that I highly recommend them and suggest adding them to your crochet tool arsenal. ... show more
