  • Good Quality-Works Well
Assembly was a no brainer,, even with the scant instructions. Don't just attach the bottom plate as is. It comes kinda squished into the drum (which is upside down). Used it today with some mallard ducks. I've about 30 to go. It didn't remove all the feathers, but there weren't many to pluck. Last time I plucked one by hand took me 30 minutes, and I still couldn't get all the down off. This took all the down and most feathers off in about 2 minutes. Very nice. And all the feathers dropped down in a tidy clump underneath. ... show more

  • Works fantastic with proper scalding
We finally got around to butchering our broilers and used our plucker. I could not be more pleased with it. Proper scalding makes all the difference in the world. We bathed the killed birds in 145 degree water for 90 seconds and the plucking went very well. My daughter wanted to keep the feet and the plucker skinned those with ease. Just make sure the feet are scalded as well. We did 50 birds total and just put one bird at a time in the machine. I tried two birds and it worked fine but at the pace we were processing, 1 bird at a time was easiest to manage. I did not try more than two birds so I can't comment on capacity. Clean-up is easy although feathers do get stuck around the base of the rubber fingers so if you want to get it really clean, you need to manually remove those. ... show more

  • Life saver
We processed 24 chickens last weekend, we ordered this plucker the week before, but it wasn’t due to arrive until after processing day… thank god it came early. Works really well. Chickens were featherless in about 30 seconds and clean up was easy. Assembly was also easy.

  • Will not pluck Turkeys! to small.
I have been raising meat chickens and turkeys for about 12 years and processing my own, I have cleaned over 2,000 birds on a home made whizbang type plucker that would do chickens and turkeys, until a tree fell on my barn and took it out. I looked at buying a commercial one that you would find on a poultry site but didn't want to spend the money for one. I figured that a home made one did pretty well, so this one should be as good or better and about the same price that it would take me to repair my old one. I wanted to clean a few birds and see how well it would do before I made this review with about 150 birds cleaned. So here are my pro's and con's of the unit and some modification that I will be doing for next year. Pro's - Wheels are nice to move around. - Bottom section seems very sturdy and strong. - easy to clean. - simple to put together. - worked well for 5# chickens. I only do one bird at a time. Con's - will not clean turkeys! Was able to do a 13# bird by removing feet, wing and tail feather and neck but not very well. - power cord is to short. -GFCI plug will trip often if using an extention cord, and having to reset. - on/off switch is at the bottom of the unit. - need more plucking fingers. Mods for next year - Add more plucking fingers. -relocate on/off switch to top of unit. - adding water spray lines. - change out power cord. longer and no GFCI. I hope this helps!! ... show more

  • Wonderful time saver!
If you've ever plucked a chicken by hand, you will know that is the worst part of the entire process. This takes a 10 minute task down to 15 seconds. Works very well as described so can't add much more to why you need this. However, I would add some considerations and things to watch out for. 1) Make sure your scalding water is ~150. Keep the chicken in there until the wing feathers are easy to pull out 2) The power switch is in a rough spot, below the drum. Not the easiest to turn on the machine while holding the bird 3) Ensure you have water close by to run water over the chicken as it is tossed around the machine. If working alone, I have put the hose on top of a ladder pointed down toward the drum so I can turn on after the machine is on, with one hand 4) Run until clean, turn off power, and then rinse off feathers with water that are stuck to the fingers. As others have mentioned - the power cord is rather small and runs past where the wet feathers come out. It seems very easy that water can get to where you plug in the power to the extension cord. What I have done is wrap a plastic bag around where the power is connected and to cover/tape it up. A bit of extra work up front but better safe than sorry. I would also recommend getting a plastic bucket that fits snugly between ground and feather chute. Drill holes throughout the bucket so feathers can drain out water in between birds without having an overly gloppy feathery mess. ... show more

  • Well Worth The Momey
Our first time to use the new plucker and this thing worked better than the other brand that we rented last process day. Plucked the bird in about 20 seconds. Big timesaver

  • game changer
We processed a goose for Christmas. It went much faster and easier than the one we did for Thanksgiving without a plucker. This is going to make doing chickens a breeze.

  • Dysfunctional by second use
Was dead the second time I took it out. This thing was easy to put together and it worked great, the first time. I will say the design of switch right beneath where wet feathers come pouring out isn’t the smartest, but we just started unplugging from cord instead of using switch to avoid the awkwardness. Unfortunately, the electrical box let water in and corroded everything, so now it’s a dead weight. An EXPENSIVE dead weight. It’s made to be rinsed with water, so this is extremely irritating. Customer service routed to a voicemail and I did not get a return call and no help. What I DID have to do was pluck 20 birds by hand unexpectedly, not fun! Very disappointed. ... show more
