As a sourdough novice, I had none of the “tools”. I have serviceable alternatives in my kitchen, but the bowls I used for proofing didn’t seem to work very well - though that could be my lack of experience. I ordered this kit as an investment toward my success. I was worried about how light the bowl seemed, but it was strong enough to hold the dough without breaking. The removable liner comes on and off easily but stays put when holding the dough. It washes easily - I hung it up to dry. It doesn’t keep the flour completely from falling through to the bowl, so I did need to gently brush the bowl a little, rinsed it, and air dries it thoroughly. The mixer has a comfortable weight to it, as well as the dough cutter. Both seem pretty well made. The lame needs to have the blade put on it, and though it’s sharp, it took more effort than I expected to score the dough. In all, I’m happy with my purchase. It’s good for a starter set.

This set is SO worth it. The Superbaking banneton baskets are sturdy and well-made, and they give your loaves the most beautiful, consistent shape. I gifted this to my husband as he is currently on a sour dough bread kick. He used the oval one for this bake (see pic!) and it came out crusty and picture-perfect. It also comes with a great set of tools—sharp lame for beautiful scoring, a dough scraper that handles wet dough easily, a liner for each basket, and even a little brush for cleanup. Everything feels thoughtfully made and durable. My husband said and I quote - “This kit makes you feel like an artisan baker—even if you’re just getting started.” VERY happy with this purchase!

My initial kit arrived with the dough whisk missing, but Superbaking immediately replaced not only the missing dough whisk, but they sent me a whole new kit! Excellent customer service and a guarantee that I will buy from them again. Everything works very well! The bannetons were sturdy, smooth and without splinters and my dough did not stick to the fabric. The dough whisk has a good weight to it and seems like it will last. All in all, I think this is a quality starter kit for someone getting started on their sourdough journey. All of these pieces will remain useful as long as I keep making sourdough.
