This kit has everything needed to get started with making bread. Using metal utensils is not recommended when making sourdough so this kit has silicone covered items for mixing your starter. I felt like a kid at Christmas when this item arrived!

Stop thinking about it , Get this kit - it has everything you will need to start your sourdough making journey:) … The only thing I would buy separately is an actual thermometer to find out if my place it at the right temperature … kit includes an adhesive temperature reader but I am afraid it will soon get lost - if it comes of the glass. . Other then this it is worth it !

This was a used kit that was sent. First indication was the 2nd set of tape used on the box. What sealed it was opening the starter jar that had a haze on the inside and it smelled of flour! GROSS!!! The proofing baskets are cheap. Missing the two storage jars per the pamphlet that shows the items it comes with. Whole kit feels cheap. If you like poor quality, get this kit.

This is a pretty comprehensive little kit and would be a great gift if you know someone curious about sourdough. Well, you should also buy them a baking stone and an inexpensive Dutch Oven, but this has all of the other essentials to get started. I liked the sourdough starter jar was NOT a Mason Jar. Instead it was straight sided, which means it is so much easier to clean. The second you get to attempt to clean a jar that is not straight sided after a failed sourdough attempt is the moment you are likely to want to give up on the whole sourdough thing. I think it would have been nice if these "starter kits" included a sourdough starter, since getting a starter going from scratch is pretty difficult for the inexperienced sourdough baker during the colder months of the year. Also, tossing in a cheap scale (I think the one my daughter purchased for her college chem class was under $5) would make sense since the directions are for adding in the flour and water in grams and the only way you are going to do that properly is with a digital scale with a tare function. Anyhow, a decent kit. Add in a sourdough starter, scale, Dutch Oven, and baking stone and you would be all set to go! (and why I downgraded it a star)
