This welder seems to be OK for the homeowner just the temperature that you set it on is the critical part where the welding rod will get burned so I suggest you start it on 250 and then go to a lower dial depending on what size material you are welding I'm giving this as a gift to my son and my son-in-law. Also use the welding rod that comes with it will be too confusing for someone to figure it all out if they go to a different setting. The dial on it is not accurate. Way more powerful then the 30 year old mini welder I learned on, and ¼ the size. On the lowest setting going what I thought was quick I was burning through ⅛" sheet metal with 3/32-6011 rods. Definitely worth it for small repairs.

I have a small inverter welder that looks very similar to this one. Same size but it comes with a 10 foot power cable and 10 foot electrode cables. It’s 120/240 and it welds like nobody’s business. I’ve been welding for 45 years and my little one welds better than my Lincoln 225. Has hot start, no stick, all kinds of stuff. So I was on a trip and my trailer broke and I didn’t have any way to fix it so I ordered one of these welders and had it the next day. I could not maintain an arc with the stupid thing. It stuck and stuck and stuck and stuck, and finally, it would draw an arc which lasted for about three seconds, and then it just went out. No matter how close I got the tip to the steel the arc would just go out. I thought maybe it was a crappy rod that came with it so I bought some 7018 and they wouldn’t even do an art at all. I tried crank up the amperage. I even went as high as it would go and it still wouldn’t work. At least in the higher amperage the small electrodes worked kind of, but it was really really crappy. So I’m returning it. As soon as I got home, I cranked up my little welder that looks like this one does and was able to lay down some really nice welds with no problem at all. Even 1/8 inch 7018 rods burned like, just fine. The only good thing is that it worked well enough for me to tack some stuff together so that my trailer didn’t fall apart by the time I got home. The sad thing is, my welder cost less than 100 bucks also but it’s a rockin’ welder and this one’s just a rock. Maybe I just got a dud because some of the reviews are good but for just a few more dollars you can get the 10 foot cables and the 220 adapter. Oh, if you do get this buy some kind of mask also because the one that comes with it is not even good enough to put together. It’s just literally a piece of junk mask. I just bought some auto darkening glasses for $10 and it didn’t protect my face, but it was good enough for what I needed. This mask won’t even hold the lens in it or anything.     • Good value except for VERY cheap ground clamp.
The main unit itself seems like a good value for the money and the electronics of the unit itself seem to be quite powerful. The electrode holder also seems very good. Cables are a bit short. Gloves are rather poor quality and the face shield is very cheap and kind of a joke, although I suppose for someone that doesn't want to shell out a whole $25 for a welding helmet it may be a plus. Extremely cheap negative ground clamp is totally unacceptable - so thin it bent almost immediately from just normal clamping action. You are supposed to clamp the negative to the work piece, then another clamp to ground, but only one cable is provided. Maybe this is typical, I don't know. Buy a decent pair of jumper cables or something to get a decent battery clamp so you can swap out the junk one provided. Then use the extra cable to run to your dedicated ground rod if available. At least however the cables use copper wire so it can actually function well. The manual is extremely poor. Be sure to read up so you can safely use this. Recommend using a big box fan to blow the fumes away- this is an advantage of using a stick welder vs MIG/TIG which won't tolerate wind over 5mph. ... show more
