  • Super Lucky's Tale is an excellent game!
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard
Let me make this easy: Super Lucky's Tale is a wonderful game. I can appeal to gamers young and old. I have spent many hours playing through it in it's entirety, collecting all of the collectibles and really seeing what it has to offer and I can honestly say that it's quite good. To be frank, I'm not sure where the negative press is coming from. The game is bright, colorful, and incredibly adorable with great art direction and tight, precise controls. Super Lucky's Tale reminds me of the RareWare platformers of old in all the best ways with likeable characters and truly fun gameplay. The platforming is simple, and veteran gamers won't find much of a challenge here, but the game still held my attention thanks to the solid fundamentals. The only nitpick that I have is with the replay value (or the lack thereof). Once you 100% the game, like I did, there is very little reason to return. Buy Super Lucky's Tale. Support great new IPs such as this one. It's well worth it's sub-$30 price tag! ... show more

  • Fun and entertaining throwback to the 3D platforming days
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard
This game is a welcomed addition to today's mostly big shooters and open world games. Going back to the glory days of 3D platforming. The graphics are bold and colorful, the environments are well designed and easy to look at, and the game plays fairly well. There are a few issues that I think most reviews have pointed out: The lack of a free rotating camera and some floaty feel in the controls. Personally, the camera isn't that much of an issue, but can be annoying when you move towards the screen. There are some times when you feel you are moving blindly into an area. There have been a few frustrating times when it is tricky to get Lucky to land where you want. Edge detection is hit and miss at best. The game is of moderate difficulty. It's got some tricky areas that will provide a challenge if you are not skilled with your platforming. It's not hard, but it's not a cakewalk. You'll miss plenty of jumps if you are not paying attention. I haven't seen the game in 4K on the Xbox One X, but it looks great on my 60" 1080p TV with a standard Xbox One. I'm sure it is sharper and smoother, but the graphical difference won't hinder your game play. One of my favorite aspects of the game is the score. There are some catchy orchestral melodies. Overall, a very enjoyable game and worth the $20 to $25 price tag. ... show more

  • Excellent for casual gamers.
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard
Great game. Easy to pickup and start playing. It's also easy to put down when you need to get back to work. Excellent for casual gamers. While more for younger ones, this game is fun for older gamers as well. Some puzzles are a little too easy but still fun to play. The game has a reminiscent feel like a mashup between Crash Bandicoot and Super Mario 64. The graphics look beautiful but are not really impressive. The character and level creativity is amazing. A good enough variety to keep you entertained for hours on end. The only bad things I can say is jumping and landing can be extremely frustrating. Keep an eye on Lucky's shadow (if possible) when trying to line up jumps and their landings. Also enemies tend to re-spawn right on top of you immediately. Keep moving to avoid another frustrating death. Also the hitbox (area to jump on to kill enemies) is frustrating at times as well. Sometimes I'll jump square on their head, not killing them but actually hurting myself. This led to many frustrating deaths. One last thing, you will die no matter how careful you are. The game throws new gameplay and enemies at you without explaining any rules or how to play. You just have to figure it out... and die. Although, some might say "figuring it out is part of the fun." If you are a seasoned gamer and prefer more of a challenge, rent or borrow this. If you are a casual gamer or younger gamer, this is a really fun game. I can't wait for a sequel or more from Lucky. Well worth the $20 I spent! EDIT: Just finished beating the game. Seemed a little short and there are no benefits or unlocked features after beating the game. While still worth $20, some may price it at a $10-15 value. Hopefully a more polished sequel with twice as many levels will be made. TIP: Collecting coins in the hub world is not pointless. Every 300 collected = an extra life. ... show more

  • Adorable, Fun, & Relaxing
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard
As somone who has played numerous games such MOBAs, action RPGs, first-person-shooters, platformers, etc., I can say without doubt that this game is entertaining. For a new gamer or younger player, this game and its mechanics may present a slight challenge but nothing that is too complex by any means. For a more casual or seasoned individual, this game is a breeze with clear and easy to obtain objectives. While the game mechanics and objectives are overall simple, the game is still entertaining, positively adorable, and incredibly relaxing. For those that have played Super Mario 3D World and enjoyed it, I imagine you would enjoy this game as well considering some of the similarities. I know I have. I would recommend this game to players who enjoy video games that are a little more simplistic, adorable, and fun. For those that strictly prefer a challenging game with a more in-depth story and world you can become engrossed in, this may not be the game for you. For those that can enjoy games ranging from fun and simple to in-depth and challenging, it is likely you would find entertainment with this game as well. ... show more

  • Too little too late; a dismally chirpy attempt at a great platformer.
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard
A dismal, by the numbers game that doesn't stack up to other recent platformers on other systems. Compared to Mario Odyssey, it's garbage. Compared to Ratchet and Clank, or Jak & Daxter, or really any AAA platformer, this game just doesn't deliver. It's confusing in layout, derivative in design, and just doesn't try hard enough. The camera stinks, too. Buy this and maybe your kids will like it, but if they've played other better platformers, then they will try it and drop it pretty quickly in my opinion. ... show more

  • Playful Pixel Purr-fection!
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard
Super Lucky's Tale is hard evidence that there are still developers out there that are willing to put fun, smiles and enjoyment as Priority Number 1 over graphics, overblown budgets and empty hype. This game is a delightful throwback to the 3D platformers of the mid to late 90's. If you enjoyed games like Super Mario 64, Glover, Banjo-Kazooie, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg and others in the same vein, then Super Lucky's Tale is right up your alley. The characters are delightful and cute and the levels are varied, fun to play and full of treasures and secrets that will keep players coming back for more, searching every little nook and cranny to find every last coin. It's classic 90's 3D platforming reborn and done right. If you have an Xbox One or a Windows 10 computer, this is a game you must own. It will justify every red cent you spent as soon as you immerse yourself into the first level. Absolute masterpiece! ... show more

  • Fantastic, fun, and positive game for the whole family.
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard
Fantastic game. Played it with the kids and they absolutely love it. Bright and colorful levels, fantastically cute and well designed characters, and engaging fun gameplay make this a must have for any XBox owner. The framerate on the XBox One X is smooth and locked at 60FPS. And after all that, the message of the game, one of perseverance, positive action, and just plain fun is something that we need a lot more of in this world. I got 2, one for us and one for gifting this Christmas. I have a feeling, I am going to need a couple more copies. Do yourself and your family a favor and give this game a try, you won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Very fun, but not as easy as some make it out to be
Platform For Display: Xbox One Edition: Standard
Super Lucky's Tale is a very fun game. It reminds me of Super Mario World from Nintendo 64. Some reviews state that it's a relatively easy game. That is true to a point, but later in the game, some of the levels can be very frustrating, since Lucky can only take 3 hits before meeting his demise and the opportunities for him to perish increase greatly. There's quite a bit of humor in the game, even the mumbo-jumbo spoken by the characters Lucky encounters. As someone who mastered Super Mario World back in the day, completing every task in the game (an accomplishment most people I know have not achieved in playing it), I find this game far more challenging. It could be that I'm just terrible at video games now compared to my younger years, but as with some of the Lego video games, playing Super Lucky's Tale, I sometimes ask myself, "How are little kids supposed to be able to do this?" ... show more
