  • Cute bee house

This does not attract Mason bees. However, bumble bees like it.

  • Most importantly, the amazing mason bees love this habitat
Number of Items: 1
The media could not be loaded. We discovered the magic of Mason Bees several years ago as they would use the screw holes in our patio furniture for nesting areas. We have now bought two of the Sunvara Mason bee houses and have a large and thriving colony that provides tons of interesting and amusing time each year. Imagine standing amongst a rush of 25 freshly hatched bees, non stinging bees, as they buzz around their hives. After they lay their young (and plug the holes with mud) we leave them to over winter outside in a sheltered window. Each Ohio mid-March they hatch and become important pollinators. ... show more

  • Not for the professional
Number of Items: 1
This is great for the beginner but realize that you will only get one season out of it. I bought it to put on my picnic table during the spring so that we can watch the mason bees do their thing. The problem is that the tubes are too short for maximum performance and there is no way to extract cocoons during the winter Sure it is a fun way to learn about mason bees but you will want more by next season. ... show more

  • Gift for the nature lover in your life!
Number of Items: 1
Purchased this item for my mom for mother's day! she is a huge lover of nature and all its creatures and had been working on fixing up her yard and small garden. i thought this would be a great addition as it looks great and is supposed to help be a home for bees and other insects who come to visit her garden. i thought it would take some time for the flying friends to notice and start using it but she told me it was almost immediate and that she loves having this on her porch! be sure to hang it under a porch or roof overhang to keep it from getting rained on so your pollinators don't drown! ... show more

  • Still have to see if the Mason Bees like it, seems fairly sturdy and attractive.
Number of Items: 1
The basic structure and construction seem fairly sturdy. The "shell" is of woven bamboo or rattan, so is not waterproof, so the bee house should probably be under some sort of cover. The twine included to hang to bee house with is fortunately biodegradable, probably sisil, hemp or something similar, but not something I would choose for a fairly heavy structure. I made up 10 ga. wire hangers for mine. Some of the bamboo stalks inside the shell go almost all the way through to the back (about 4"/10 cm), some are only 3/4"/19mm deep before a solid bamboo section joint closes the tube formed by the stalk. These could be drilled out, but would require different sizes of drills due to the different diameters of bamboo stalks used. ... show more

  • Bees Love It
Number of Items: 1
The instructions recommend hanging it so it faces east to allow the rising sun to warm the bees in the morning, which is probably the best approach. However, I chose to hang it on the back of our woodshed, where it is under the roof and protected from rain. This side faces northwest so the bee house catches the last rays of sunshine of the day when the bees are gathering the last of their nectar and pollen before dusk. The bees moved in very soon after I set it up. My garden has many native flowers and other pollinator-friendly plants to attract the bees. ... show more
