    • This Junction Box Has Some Issues

To paraphrase Linus, "this isn't a bad little junction box, really". It all depends on what you plan to do with it. The pre-cut holes with the plastic plugs is nice in a way. They say to just cut a "X" in the plastic plug and run your wire through. That works, but the box is no longer water tight unless you caulk around the wire where it exits the plastic plug. My plan was to buy cable glands to replace the plastic plugs. Unfortunately, the diameter of the holes is around one inch, which means you need to by 3/4 inch NPT cable glands. The problem with that is the 3/4 inch glands will only tighten down to a diameter of 0.4 of an inch. Ethernet, telephone and COAX cables are a 1/4 inch in diameter or less, so the cable gland will NOT get tight around the wire. Yes, you can caulk around the wire, but then you may as well use the plastic plugs that come with this junction box. If you want a neater looking more water tight junction box, I'd recommend buying one that does NOT have pre-cut holes. Then you can cut the size holes you need to fit the proper size cable glands so they will create a water tight seal around the wires. ... show more

    • 3/4 knockout NOT 1 INCH !!!

Ok, first off the knockout holes are 3/4 inch, Not 1”. ( probably metric equivalent so don’t buy 1” cable glands because they absolutely are not going to fit ! ) Upon inspection of the rubber covers on the knockout holes, a utility knife making the appropriate cut will suffice so no glands really necessary. Second, I was hoping for a more worthy plastic as this seems a bit on the cheap side. Using this box as a splice box for outdoor ip plz cctv camera / cat 6 connection. I think it”ll work. Love this box. Nice rubber grommets that you can easily cut or shape with a knife blade. Plenty of room inside. Easy to drill for the retaining screws. This is perfect for tidying up and safely housing my security camera wires. The lid appears to fit tightly. Buy be aware that it does not have a rubber seal ring, so this might not be the best box if you are going to locate in a wet location or require a completely waterproof box. Mine is under the eaves, so water resistant should be fine for my requirement. Happy with the purchase. ... show more
