Now that I've got the bench all assembled, I can say that I really like it - the wood is nice clear solid wood with some sort of finishing oil applied. Time will tell how the wood ages in the afternoon sunlight it gets on the porch. Like ANY wood it will certainly need some upkeep so I'm not expecting it to stay perfect without some TLC. The bench lid has some nice springs to keep it open/closed but it could use a sound/impact dampening bumper of some kind when the lid closes - if it slips your fingers on the close it will slam down pretty hard and noisily (the spring mechanism engages on the close and the open). This is easy enough to add with some silicon cabinet door bumpers found at any hardware store. The only negative was the packaging. For such a nice hardwood piece, the packaging was too flimsy. The hardware package broke open in the box so screws etc were scattered around upon open. Fortunately the box was tapes all the way around the edges so everything was still in there. The other problem was that the bench back was destroyed in shipping - it had pieces broken off where it must impacted during shipping. Miraculously only that one part was damaged. But here's a POSITIVE - after emailing the company with description and pictures as stated in the instructions, I got a nice email back very quickly apologizing for the inconvenience and promising to send a replacement. It came so quickly I questioned what was in the big box on my porch later in the week until I realized it must be the replacement part. The part was in perfect condition and the color/tint of the wood matched the rest of the bench. A few minutes later my bench was fully completed. Kudos to Sunnydaze for outstanding customer service. Assembly was a bit of a hassle but I was doing it solo - another pair of hands would have helped. The inner bolt connections will be a hassle no matter how many hands you have but they are solid connections with solid metal parts that don't look or feel like the junk pot metal fasteners you get with lesser quality kits - another plus for Sunnydaze. Since this is such a glowing review I feel it necessary to state that I am in no way affiliated with Sunnydaze and did not receive any kind of incentive to write this review. I was motivated to share my positive experience for others to read simply because it's getting harder and harder to find any kind of quality construction at this low price point.

Once we got this assembled, we were very impressed with the quality of the bench. It's quite sturdy and the hinged lid is excellent. It looks great on our patio. There's a fair amount of storage inside, but highly recommend a cover if you're interested in waterproofing items stored inside. A couple of things we would have done differently (we know this because we ended up re-doing them). First, the instructions repeatedly state not to tighten hardware completely till it's all assembled. That does not work for everything. Be sure to tighten the coupling nuts on the pieces attaching front and back to sides. If you don't do this, then put the bottom panel on, you won't be able to access the coupling nuts to fully tighten. The other thing we recommend is to attach the hinge to the lid BEFORE attaching it to the bench. We tried it per instructions (attached it to the bench first) and could not get it to line up. Once we removed that and attached it to the lid first, everything lined up easily. Great purchase!

The bench is pretty and fairly simple to assemble but it was delivered with a large crack in the armrest. I didn't want to deal with returning it so I assembled and will wait to see how it holds up. Depends on what you want to deal with.

The bench is comfortable, looks good, and lot of storage under seat. I am using it in a protected location and so it should last. I doubt it would last very long if it is subject to rain, snow and sun. The hinges have no dampening and close and open abruptly. It is worth the low price. It was reasonably easy to assemble and took about an hour and half. The quality of cardboard packaging left much to be desired as photos show - some of the wood was damaged and the package of screws and connectors had been opened and repasted with number of items scattered.

This is a GREAT bench! Super easy to put together! Very sturdy. Real wood, the woody smell is even nice. I put it together by myself with zero difficulty. I love the look and love the storage area in the bottom. 10 out of 5 stars!

This bench came broken, and screws packaging opened, assuming it was repackaged. We had to glue, fix before we spent over two hours putting it together.

This wood is the hardest I have ever come into contact with. I put fine mesh hardware cloth on the bottom to keep out rodents and the staple gun had a hart time driving in staples. It is not rain proof so buy a cover when not in use.

Very easy to assemble and real wood! The wood feels very sturdy and not cheaply made at all. My only complaint would be that the hinge to open and close the seat lid is a bit intense to open and pops open with some force. Very good construction though and looks great!
