  • Relatively easy to assemble, but... ASSEMBLY TIPS
Color: Brown
Just assembled our replacement gazebo on our concrete "gazebo base". Love the way it looks, will be interested to see how it holds up compared to similar past purchases we have made over the 12 years since we retired back home (both were 10x10 gazebos, which my wife and I think may be structurally more sound). The 30 minutes assembly time noted in the instructions might be achievable for experienced assemblers who have done a bunch of these, but not for us non-experts. Also re: the instructions -- depending on how you are anchoring the gazebo, no other tools are necessary, but you *will* need a ladder to do the canopy supports and canopy. It also helps to have a tool (we used the roof Hook) to press in the more ornery connector buttons. It took us roughly 2 hours to assemble, not counting the prep work needed (cutting off and trimming old concrete anchor bolts and installing new ones to fit the new footprint). The basic ground assembly was easy-peasy, we had no issues with the instructions until it came to the top. Regarding the canopy supports: 1. It was obvious to us that the longer sides of the Big Roof Connector should be for the diagonal supports ("oblique beams" in the instructions). However, when we tried putting the diagonal supports up first it seemed like we were forcing things. BOTTOM LINE: The previous reviewer who suggested inserting the side supports first and then doing the diagonals was absolutely on target. Doing the assembly in that order was a cinch, and actually made assembling the diagonal supports easier when we got to them. 2. Kudos to another reviewer who suggested laying the big canopy out to determine top/bottom and orientation, and then folding the canopy in half and half again before placing it on to one side of the frame. We did that, fitting the canopy to the supports as we went, then using the ladder we pushed the canopy to the top, stopped to fit the opening, then fitted the side supports before continuing the rest of the way. The velcroed wraps were easy to work with, and we had no trouble with securing the canopy ends until we got to the last corner pieces. But with four hands to gently pull on the canopy we were able to gently stretch it enough to secure all the corners and sides. 3. The small canopy -- PUT THAT ON LAST, despite what the instructions say. Assemble it and place the canvas on it, then you can get it up to the top of the gazebo for final assembly to the structure by placing it on the canvas and either (a) having your partner use a broomstick or long pole to push it up to the top where you (on your ladder) can grab it, or (b) if alone, tie a rope to the small canopy before putting it on the canvas, then toss the untied end up and through the open roof center so you can grab it and gently pull the small canopy up to you. It's a breeze from there. ... show more

  • Nice for the Money
Color: Brown
UPDATE: After using it for one season I still like it. It stood up to some wind storms just fine. Really the only issue is that the tarp would not stretch over one of the corners so rain pools, causing the tarp to sink in on that side. So, as another reviewer suggested, I cut 1.5 inches off one of the last corner bar and was able to stretch it. Now, no water pooling. I used a small saw with a "metals" blade and it took about 20 min. But worth it. Original Review: The Gazebo came in a tightly packed, sturdy box. Luckily there was no damage because it's about 100 lbs. Everything was packed very neatly and efficiently. There was just a thin layer of foam around the outside so if your box arrives with major damage you should probably either inspect it immediately or refuse delivery. It was easy to unpack and everything is wrapped in thin plastic. I agree with what others said about the instructions not being the greatest or most descriptive, but I found them sufficient and logical. Each bar had a letter tag which made sliding them together pretty easy to follow. There are no tools needed but I used pliers to slightly bend the opening on a couple pieces. Otherwise everything was engineered perfectly. The metal bars are thin so it's not the most sturdy item but for the money it was as good as I would have expected and easy to handle. The hardest part for me was fitting the tarp on the top. It's not square so you have to lay it out and get it going the right direction or you'll have to adjust once on top (which is fine too). Note that when you get to the stop of putting the top piece and large tarp on, you want to put the larger tarp on first but not unfurl it all the way because you will need to have space to get up on the ladder to put the top section on. Then unfurl the larger tarp and fit around the corners. The only issue I had was that the tarp wouldn't stretch all the way to one of the four corners, so I bought some Velcro straps which should work fine. I put the whole thing up myself with the exception of needing a second person for a couple of minutes during two steps just to hold a cross bar. I anchored it to my deck with deck screws and it seems reasonable solid but it's not something that's going to stand up to rough play or a major wind storm (over 50 mph) I don't think. Overall we really like it. It's reasonably attractive and provides decent shad. The size is good, and I realize now that a 10x10 would have been just a little too small. Also, I've not had the problem some described with water pooling on the roof. My guess is they didn't get the tarp stretched right or tight enough. We've had a couple of decent thunderstorms and it held up fine and water ran off like it should, but hasn't truly been tested yet. I'll update the review after one of our good IL storms rolls through. If you want a permanent solution that WILL stand up to all weather conditions be expecting to pay a lot more. ... show more
