One thing I have in common with my sister's place, we both live on the second floor of our buildings with exterior step entrances (expect mine have a u-turn landing halfway up). Using big clunky shovels is a big pain in the behind. So I bought 2 of these. If they didn't work then I'd give them to my nephew and nieces. They work perfectly! It's so easy to shovel our steps now. Her steps have risers on the back of them, mine don't, and yet these shovels work great for both.     • Dependable shovel that is easy to use
After reading all the reviews of the various kid's snow shovel, I decided on this one for my grandson. There were many shovels to choose from, but this is one of the only ones that had excellent reviews. It was important to me that the shovel be sturdy and not break after only one or two uses. It was also important to me that it would be easy for him to use. My grandson is only 3 and goes at everything with gusto so I didn't want this gift to be a frustration to him. Got this snow shovel for my 3 year old grandson as it is the only child shovel that is authentic and not just a toy. Sturdy and functional enough for him to participate in snow activities. Very happy

    • I was disappointed with this shovel.
I got this for Christmas for my granddaughter because she likes to help when we shovel snow. For the price, I expected something much sturdier. The red shovel part is not very thick and seems brittle, it looks like it would break if you tried to use it on hard-packed or icy snow. The shovel is held onto the PVC handle with a single staple on the back. The D-grip is very narrow and rounded, making it awkward to hold. And the grip is black, not red, a minor factor, but still, it's not as cute. When I saw a much better shovel at my local grocery store for only $5.50, I decided to send this one back.     • Looks like a shovel, performs like a toy.
This was perfect when my son was smaller and wouldn't really help shovel so much as play with snow while I was shoveling. But now at age nine he's capable and willing to actually shovel snow productively. Unfortunately, while the size is perfect, this Suncast kids' shovel isn't up to the job. The blade is too flimsy for ice or heavy snow and there's no metal or hard plastic wear strip, so the blade itself abrades on the stone walk. The handle is also just plastic, and the joints where the grip attaches to the handle and the handle attaches to the blade allow twisting and flexing when the blade is used hard. This is a great form factor for kids that can't quite handle an adult shovel, I just wish it were better made. ... show more

    • Good for light snow; my kids love to "help"
Overall, the kids have a blast with it since they think they're helping. The reality is, even my oldest, who is 6, is making more of a mess than actually helping when I'm shoveling. At the end of the day, it's a nice play shovel. It's lightweight but if used on anything other than fluffy snow, I fear the plastic would crack since it does not feel durable. I'm a 5'4" woman over 65. After a storm dropped several inches of snow on my balcony, I needed a shovel, so I ordered this one from Ron's Home and Hardware. It was smaller than expected so I should have checked the measurements before ordering. But, it is a very sturdy shovel and our daughter loves "helping" with it.
