    • Works and is comfortable; takes a long time to heat up

Comfortable and warm, this has really improved my sleeping, but it's too easy to set it too high, because it takes a long time to heat up, so you might be fooled into thinking you don't have it set high enough, tempting you to use a higher setting than you really want. I wish there were some sort of actual temperature scale rather than just the settings 1-12, so you had some idea what the setting meant, but trial and error is standard practice for electric blankets. Eventually you'll figure out that "3" or "4" (or whatever) is your favorite setting. The safety instructions are pretty explicit about not tucking in any part of the blanket that has heating elements and not running the power cord under the mattress or between the mattress and the bed frame. But the cord plugs into the blanket right in the middle of one of the short sides (I have the twin size), meaning that the plug is meant to attach near the foot of the bed -- otherwise it would be right by your face. Fortunately, the control box is still reachable to someone under the blanket, because they've allowed ample length for the cord to reach from the controls to the blanket while remaining outside the bed frame. The controls consist of a power on-off switch, up and down buttons for the heat setting, and up and down buttons for the shutoff time setting. There's an LCD display with a backlight that's pretty bright at night, but it automatically turns the light off after a minute or so of not pressing any buttons. Kudos to Sunbeam for having both up and down buttons; some controls I've seen have only an up button that makes you cycle back around through all the settings if you miss the one you want. The blanket's material itself is rather light and quite soft. They're not going to use a thick, heavy material that inhibits heat transfer, because that defeats the purpose of an electric blanket, but they're not going to wrap the heating elements in tinfoil either. I think Sunbeam's chosen a happy medium here: a light, soft fabric. You can feel the heating elements, as you can with any electric blanket. You probably won't want to use it by itself; you'll probably want another blanket or at least a sheet. ... show more

    • Sunbeam is a terrible company to do business with!

Amazon delivered the product quickly -- as expected and appreciated. However the blanket only lasted 2 months before it quit working. That 2 months passed the time for returns to Amazon, so I had to deal with Sunbeam. The blanket has a 5-year warranty, so repairs and replacements are covered. HOWEVER, Sunbeam's customer service is HORRIBLE! I first tried calling them. The phone system required me to talk to an automated system through several questions. In the middle of the questions, their phone system hung up on me. This happened several times. Then I called back and said "REPRESENTATIVE" to the automated service, and it sent me to talk with someone. HOWEVER, what I got was NOT a representative but a recording telling me that they were very busy and couldn't take my call, "please call back later." I thought this might be a fluke, so I tried the same thing again and got the same message EVERY TIME. Then I tried live chat. The first agent I got asked me to go to the blanket and get a series of numbers and symbols to give him. I told him it would take a few minutes, he said OK. When I returned to the chat, he had ended the chat! So I reconnected to Chat and got a different agent. I had to fill out all the info again, etc. He said "How can I help you?" and then never returned to the chat!!! I tried again and got an agent that remained on the chat -- thank you! -- but then informed me that I had to pay for shipping my blanket to them and then wait 3-4 weeks to get a replacement. Presumably I will get a new blanket, but I have spent over 2 hours of my time, will pay for shipping, and then won't get the blanket till the weather is too warm for using it. Not to mention the fact that I don't even know if the new one will work properly. I will NEVER buy another Sunbeam product. ... show more

I love this blanket! I have had it for one cold season now. Unlike many other electric blanket brands, the fabric is not unmanageably thick but still feels silky soft. For me this is super important because it keeps me from feeling too weighed down while still being toasty warm. It's also just a touch less slippery than minky, which seems to keep the internal heating wires from scrunching up and making the blanket permanently wrinkled. I have not tried to wash it since in the past I have washed other "washable" electric blankets and destroyed them, but I am still very happy with the product and usually just put it on top of my other blankets to keep it clean. Will definitely buy one again! ... show more
