I needed a chainsaw but was leery about getting a gas powered one so I decided to give this electric one a shot. I chose the Sun Joe brand because I have already purchased their electronic lawnmower and it is fantastic. I was able to cut a rather large limb into many pieces easily and efficiently. It wasn’t the thickest of limbs but it was still pretty thick and this little saw cut right through it. Once it was done and warmed up, it still had half battery and was ready for more. If you need something for around the house for quick limb cuts and the like, I would highly recommend this chain saw. One thing I would caution the buyer about, it’s nothing bad but I feel it needs to be said, be sure to buy chain saw oil for it when purchasing online. The reservoir is empty and they do not provide any, probably for shipping reasons. Other then that, great chain saw and great purchase! For a battery powered chainsaw, I have to say I was pretty surprised by this product! So far the largest tree I’ve taken down with it was just over 18” in diameter. Took down an old black walnut and made quick work cutting the tree down to firewood size, although I did have to charge the batteries twice to get through the complete job. However this wasn’t the end of the world, gave me time to work on some other things. Only thing I would say is don’t bring this into the woods expecting to get a day of work out of it, great for close to the homestead and every day work, but for those bigger trees and clearing jobs I’d bring a gas powered. ... show more

It did a great job for the first time using it. Don't forget to buy some chain saw oil. The only issue I had was that it wouldn't cut one of my fallen trees out back that was about 18in thick. May just need gas power for anything thicker than about 12in thick. Or maybe I just need to read instruction booklet. ... show more

The chainsaw come with both batteries fully charged ready to use. The directions were precise and simple to read. Immediately set up the chainsaw quickly and went out to use it on a downed tree. I've had gas chainsaws that needed mixed gas and oil and would never restart after first use. I also still have an electric chainsaw that requires a 100 ft cord which is very awkward. This chainsaw with rechargeable batteries was relatively inexpensive, lightweight and very efficient. This chainsaw and all the Sun Joe products are excellent I also have the Sun Joe pole chainsaw to reach higher limbs. I highly recommend their battery operated products especially for homeowners,I am extremely pleased and happy with the Sun Joe products I own especially the chainsaw I just received. ... show more

I ordered this because of price and ratings but it turned out to be better than I expected. We used it for about 3 hours cutting tree limbs to make new horseback riding trails before it ran down. It was maneuverable, easy to hold and safe; we even taught the 12 year old to cut downed logs with it. The long blade was perfect and it had more power than expected. This is a great saw especially for the price. I have owned several chainsaws over the years and always have issues with gassers. Prior to this I used a Ryobi 40v, good saw but the batteries are not great and super expensive. This has as much power as the ryobi and the batteries are easier to charge. Do read the manual as it has pointers like not starting and stopping the saw in rapid succession, and don't leave the batteries on the charger indefinitely. The price point was so good I bought two of these for the price of most competitors. One has been running great, the second saw was bad out of the box, batteries worked in first saw so they were fine it was just the saw wouldnt initialize (there is a led that shows you the status of the saw, it didnt light up and the trigger was dead). A five minute phone call to customer service got my saws registered for warranties and they are shipping me a replacement saw. Very good customer service. I also have a sunjoe push mower that uses same battery system and it has worked flawlessly for over a year. Batteries have all done great and survived long inactive periods. Overall very pleased, especially with the customer service which was so quick and easy (which has not been my experience with Ryobi and other bigger name tool companies). ... show more

Pros: - very handy for small jobs (broken limbs, small/dead trees) - no need to deal with mixing/maintaining a gas saw or hauling a super long power cord around. - 16" is plenty long for most jobs - I like the spikes just to the side of the bar that I can use to dig into whatever I'm cutting - easy to tighten chain and auto-lubricating features - amazing price (bought on sale with 2 batteries and a charger for just over $100) Neutral: - 15 minute runtime - this is not a long time, especially if you have some big trees to cut into firewood. I can't rate this a con since it's clearly listed as the runtime on 1 charge. I have a lot of sun joe tools so have several spare batteries, which makes this tolerable. It would be nice if they gave 2 chargers, or a double charger since this depletes 2 batteries quickly (though personally not an issue, since I have extras) Cons: - needs about 2-3 seconds to ramp up to full speed after turning it on. I have a cheap 14" worx plug-in saw that runs at full speed the second I fire it up. If I'm within reach of a plug-in, I prefer to use it over the sun joe. - Seems to get bound up faster than my worx saw, though I'm using the sun joe to cut heftier logs Bottom line: absolutely would buy again at the price I paid. It's really handy to pop some batteries in and go. If you already have other sun joe products and batteries (and chargers), that sweetens the deal even further. ... show more

Used to do ground work clean up. Cut small trees & limbs with little or no effort. Because it’s lightweight we were able to move around the grounds with ease. The batteries lasted a long time. Glad we decided to get this saw.
