  • Satisfied a Cranky Mom!
Style: EXCURSION 12 w/ Attendant Brakes Size: 18" Seat (12" Rear Wheels)
I purchased this particular chair because of the ergonomic design and German engineering that seemed would significantly increase ease of use and comfort. My 89-year-old mother took to it right away and finds it very comfortable. She is quite mobile still, using a Walker - but for the days where we must traverse long corridors of doctor and hospital complexes, or can’t park close to our destination - it has been very very useful and easy to fold up, unfold, maneuver, and it is light to load and unload from a trunk/hatch back. I have sat in the chair and also find it pretty comfortable. If she ever needs a more robust chair with the larger wheels, this company will be my first choice for an upgrade. I will say, with use, there are some components getting loose - but I’m sure a wrench can fix that up - when I get around to that part of my to-do list. Overall, extremely pleased with the product - as is a woman who is not pleased by much these days! Thank you for creating a product that is so comfortable for the disabled/elder, easy for the caregiver to lift and maneuver, appears to be well-made and sturdy, and has a stylish design (comparatively). ... show more

  • Best designed chair available
Style: EXCURSION 12 w/ Attendant Brakes Size: 18" Seat (12" Rear Wheels)
This chair is very thoughtfully designed to provide comfort and safety for the user. It has a uniquely designed frame that is curved and provides excellent back support. Most chairs require that the occupant sit with back and legs at a 90 degree angle which is fatiguing. For those with neurological conditions that cause rigidity, it is difficult to safely transition into standard wheel chairs without sliding out. This chair solves that problem. The other great features include: 1 ) light weight for easy loading into car and easy effort for caregiver to push, 2) maneuverability, 3) curved arms that are comfortable and allow the chair to slide under a chair or table, 4) easy to use footrests that may be moved into and out of use with little effort, 5) wheels that go over bumps and thresholds without difficulty. We did encounter a problem within the first 2 days of using the chair. The brake on one side would not release and we could not fix it following the manual provided. I contacted Strongback Mobility and with the help of Leta the Operations Manager we were able to determine that the problem was a lose set screw where the brake attached to the chair frame. I was able to tighten the screw with the allen wrench that came with the chair in less than a minute and we have been rolling along happily since. The only other thing that we have encountered is that if you bump the chair against a door frame it is possible to knock the hubcaps off. They are easy to pop back on but watch out or you may leave them behind in a doctor's office. We bought 2 of these chairs, one for home and one for the car. They have been a great and have made caring for my husband much less stressful and much safer. I recommend the chair and also that you carry the tool kit provided with you just in case something gets loose. ... show more

  • Ideal transport chair for a petite person
Style: EXCURSION 12S w/ Attendant Brakes Size: 16" Seat (12" Rear Wheels)
We bought this transfer wheelchair for my daughter who is petite at only 4' 10" tall and 120 lbs. Strongback offers 3 seat width choices, so we ordered the 16" wide seat. I was a bit skeptical because of the cost, but to my surprise it fits her perfectly while providing good back support for outings. It's easy to navigate around, wheels are solid and roll smoothly over surfaces, folds easily for storage in my car's trunk, and handbrakes lock securely. The seat material has a decent cushion and seems well made. It should last us a few years. Like others, I've purchases so many transfer wheelchairs in the past that never fit properly or hold up. We've had it for 2 weeks now and she feels very secure in it while we're pushing her around. My only disappointment is that the wheel cover popped off after our first outing. And it doesn't seems to securely snap back in place ( but it's mostly for aesthetics). Otherwise we are thrilled with this wheelchair. ... show more

  • Good and lightweight
Style: EXCURSION 12 w/ Attendant Brakes Size: 20" Seat (12" Rear Wheels)
Great chair. Only setback is the angle of the foot pegs for taller people. Overall sturdy lightweight chair!

  • BEYOND EXPECTATIONS !!!
Style: EXCURSION 12 w/ Attendant Brakes Size: 18" Seat (12" Rear Wheels)
Diligent research for our first mobility chair purchase led us to choose the Strongback. It arrived promptly in immaculate condition, fully assembled, ready to use! Very sturdy but foldable and approx 21 lbs, my 84 yr old self can readily stow it in our van! Really comfy, one could sit in it for hours! Footrests easily fold back and stay back. The manual has pictures to show folding and footrest procedures. The chair goes through doors easily. We sought this out for times such as tomorrow when we have an appointment at our hospital, and doc’s office is too far from parking garage for my spouse to motate using his walker. Ditto for park or mall visits. IMMENSELY PLEASED CUSTOMER !! ... show more

  • Excellent product but after sales….
Style: EXCURSION 12 w/ Attendant Brakes Size: 18" Seat (12" Rear Wheels)
I bought this chair for my wife on February 6th and got delivery maybe a week after one week one of foot rest retaining clip fell and was lost an email to the co. but no reply and no answer on phone call. Bought 2 clip just in case but otherwise an excellent product easy to lift and fits in the trunk of our car. I would still recommend this chair but the co. should be a bit more service oriented ... show more

  • 18 Inch chair not wide enough
Style: EXCURSION 12 w/ Attendant Brakes Size: 18" Seat (12" Rear Wheels)
We bought this for travel due to lightweight and foldability. Initially purchased the 18” because specs said it accommodates up to 300 lbs. The person is under 200 lbs. and it wasn’t wide enough for her liking and comfort. So, we ordered the 20” chair after returning the smaller one. Return was credited back to our credit card within one week. The 20” wheelchair is much more comfortable—what a difference 2” makes! If you’re in doubt, but the larger wheelchair. ... show more

  • A great wheelchair
Style: EXCURSION 12S w/ Attendant Brakes Size: 16" Seat (12" Rear Wheels)
It's pricey, but worth it. After years of complaints from my patient over how uncomfortable the standard wheelchair is for him, I bit the bullet and bought this. He's a small man, so I got the 16" seat model and it's great. Fits him perfectly, fits through the doorway easily, and sits him closer to the table when he eats. He doesn't complain that it's uncomfortable so the contoured back is helping him. I love the lightweight and the easy to swing foot rests. Glad I purchased it. ... show more
