  • Works Great for Stratux!
Purchased this to use on a Raspberry Pi 3 Stratux build for use with Garmin Pilot. Stratux recognized the GPYes right away, and I had very accurate GPS data throughout my entire flight in Garmin Pilot. It took about 10 minutes for the GPYes to calibrate itself and establish a GPS fix on first use, but subsequent boots are much quicker. Generally speaking, the longer you leave it turned off, the longer it'll take to get a fix, but after that it works beautifully. By the time you complete your runup, the GPYes is ready to go. ... show more

  • 3 times better fix with homemade modification
Great product for the Stratux home build. I like the internal GPS vs external for all the usual reasons. I was getting 30m fix BEFORE a special modification that I made. NOW I getting a 10m fix and much less fluctuations than prior to my add on...and that's on the ground in the backyard. Havent tried it in the plane yet, but prior to the mod I was getting a 30m fix in the air. So what I added was a piece of thin cardboard from a box of coke cans. I carefully wrapped one side of the cardboard with two plys of kitchen aluminum foil. Then slipped the the homemade EMI/RFI shield inbetween the GPS and the SDRs. And what-d-know...it works much better! My thinking was the SDRs were affecting performance even with GPS inserted into the top USB port. The aluminum foil seems to provide an additional shielding. Hope this helps anyone else that's tinkering with their Stratux! ... show more

  • Be sure to RTFM - Then it works well
I was getting ready to return this thing. I had it installed, went flying, couldn't ever pick up more than 1 satellite. Tried the Stratux in all sorts of orientations, right on the glare shield. No dice. Basically zero signal. So I took some photos, and was getting ready to return it and write a review, when I noticed the static bag had "Instructions here: (link) " written on it. So I viewed the instructions and it turns out I had the item installed improperly (I had the unshielded 'antenna' side covered by the SDRs). Once I flipped those around, bingo bango, 11 satellites in solution. *AWESOME*. So, make sure you install it properly. It will be "on top" if the Pi is oriented 'normal'. There's a picture in the PDF linked on the little static bag. Excited to go try again, with it installed properly this time. ... show more

  • Reliable Stratux component
This GPS, as part of the Stratux portable ADS-B receiver set, works very well with Foreflight, the electronic flight bag application. If you're an aviator and you use a WiFi only tablet without a GPS, this item can provide you with moving map functionality as part of a Stratux rig. Regarding its use in concert with the AHRS: it's still "experimental," and I wouldn't try an approach to minimums with it just yet. But as a GPS, it does what it says on the tin. ... show more

  • Surprisingly functional, but best with an external antenna.
The device is what it says it is, but I find the built-in antenna is basically useless as inside connected to a desktop or mac the noise is so high it does not sync. With an external antenna and the right connectors it works reasonably well. I have not had time to see if one can get a usable PPS signal out of it, but I hope to try that soon. ... show more

  • Compact, fast and accurate
Very happy with the receiver in Stratux. Very fast lock, accurate, and -- like everything else -- turns on with a simple toggle switch in the Stratux settings page. All functions were enabled so quickly I couldn't believe it was already working. It's the best way to add GPS to your EFB on a non-GPS-enabled iPad. Note that compact GPSes tend to experience issues when combined with an SDR at the base of the antenna wire. I use mine with a PingEFB with the SDR at the far end of the USB cable, so the (far) SDR and (close) GPS receivers don't interfere with each other. I use my Stratux with FltPlanGo on an old iPad 2 and Avare on my Android phone. ... show more

  • NO Support NO Documentation
I received the GPYes and attempted to use it per the stratux.me download site. The Raspberry Pi came up to the command prompt. The GPYes would only blink green and any attempt at 192.168.10.1 was a no-go. I will probably take the device to the lake and see how well it skips across the water. There is lttle if any documentation to speak of and it is a YOYO (you're on your on) as far as any documentation or support. I would definitely not recommend the GPYes to anyone except a bitter enemy, The next GPS that I use with the Pi will be researched for documentation and application. Then, I will make a wise decision. I received a refund for the unit. Based upon some emails, this is not intended for use as a gps, but rather a receiver for aviation weather and some other things. Maybe the term gps should not be associated with this device. ... show more
