I recently decided that I want to save more money and was trying to figure out ways to reduce my everyday living. The spouse suggested that we start hanging our laundry as the dryer uses a large amount of electricity. I went out in search of how to hang up a clothesline, and found this product as frequently purchased together with this clothesline http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Y75R0S/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 So I gave it a try and ordered two of these along with the clothesline. I actually wasn't sure how it was going to work yet, but I did know that I wanted to hang my laundry between two trees in my backyard that were conveniently 45 feet apart. I have no idea if I used this tool correctly or not, but I ran the line through one of the holes on the end of the tightener, then around a tree branch that's about 10 inches in diameter, then through the hole on the other end of this tightener, then through the center hole, and started winding until I felt enough line was wrapped around the center (about six turns). Then I did the same thing around the other tree, and this time tightened until the line was as straight as I could get it. Then I went back to the first tree and tightened a few more turns until I couldn't turn anymore. So again, I don't know if that's how you're supposed to use this cable tightener, but it has been working marvelously. I fill the line with clothes every weekend and it holds up fine. Last weekend I hung up all my heavy dog blankets and couch covers that were due for washing, and it was very windy. The line held up, the blankets never touched the ground, and the wind didn't cause any problems. The tighteners never loosened or showed any signs of wear. I did have to tighten once after hanging my first load of laundry, but I think that was due to the line stretching and not due to the tighteners. If the lines stretches some more, I think it will be super easy to tighten again. Also of note, there is a lever that you can push on this tightener that will allow you to release the cable if you need to take it down. I mostly keep my clothesline up, but there have been times I needed to take it down because it was in the way. So it was nice to be able to do so, and then easily put it back up. I am very happy with this result, and can't wait to see my reduced electric bill.

I bought this in July, 2015, and now, in August of 2021 it is still performing perfectly well even lthough I have done zero maintenance on it throughout scorching summers and wet winters. I just changed out the cotton line and see that the little spring has gotten a bit rusty and may need replacing at some point in the years ahead. Easy enough to do. Too, the washers at the rivet points show some rust, but nothing serious. I dosed it all with a few shots of silicone spray and it operates smoothly, like new. Had I sprayed it when new, &/or once or twice since, I expect that it wouldn't have any rust at all. Thus, I totally recommend this product, and expect that I'll be giving an update 10 years from now. Stay tuned.

Easy to install. I was surprised at how hefty these were. Time and weather will tell how they hold up . It was easy to crank the first few times - a lot harder for subsequent cranks.

Good quality solid clothesline winches by Strata. I purchased 2 cheaper ones at the beginning of summer & was not able to fit the Strata clothesline through the hole. Apparently they weren’t suitable for a real clothesline. Ordered the Strata brand winches & of course there was a waiting time on them. They finally arrived & I was able to install both on my double clothesline without issue. Very sturdy & made with metal, not plastic. Hoping they last me a lot of years.

I used it for my clothesline. They are pieces of crap. I used them for for my clothesline and have already had two of them snap in half. They do not hold up in the wind at all. Not worth the money at all. That is what happens when something is made in China
